I don't know if I'm going to wait six months for solids but I can tell she's not ready yet. I've let her taste yogurt the other day, which doesn't seem like a big deal since everything gets spit out. I'm not judgy about anything people do in regards to feeding. But I let my baby Facebook on my iPad ) I think I'll start around five months.
My baby's poop is already really thick and stinky, and she's only ever had my breast milk. I don't want to know what her poop will be like when I DO start giving her food. [-X

@AprilMay9 Yes there is a difference between FF poop and solid food poop. I'm pretty sure that it has more to do with the difference in a liquid diet and a solid diet. Once a baby starts solids, their poop gets thicker and less liquid-y.
@PoppySeedWindsor Congrats! That is super exciting...and slightly terrifying! Good luck to you.
Aww you guys are awesome! I was half expected to be flamed! lol.
I think the fact that she is opening her mouth for the spoon, and moving her head toward it says a lot really. WAAA my baby is growing up way too fast!
Oh and my comment about the yogurt was purely because of the sugar - no judging here, in fact I didn't know it was a thing to not give dairy for a while... Although yes not that long ago I judged someone for giving their 4 month old chocolate yogurt - do you get that there, we call it dairy food and its basically a liquid form of chocolate, so tasty but oh so much sugar! And I would totally judge someone who put juice in a bottle for a 4 month old...
Actually serious question - when do you start giving baby water to drink? We are still mostly breast milk, with a daily top up of formula in the evenings. I figured we would start giving water to drink when shes on solids more often, so actually eating solids as a meal as opposed to tastes, but actually have no idea what the guidelines are!

Called the triage nurse to ask about DS's insane hunger and she said to start solids with him cause "he's ready." He shows no interest whatsoever and I was pretty set on waiting until six months, but I'm tired of his starvation freak outs every hour....

Are you EBF or formula? if EBF are you willing to try a formula top up - I find on weekends I need to top up occasionally during the day because she gets hungry after both sides. And at night I have to top up now. If hes not ready then gives you a bit longer.
ETA you probably already thought of that. Hugs.

We didn't give Chase water until he was about a year old. I think of it this way, solids before a year old are just for fun and experimentation, so LO should be getting most of their nutrition from breast milk and/or formula. While they won't be getting nutrition from water, I don't want LO drinking water rather than breast milk when thirsty and not getting the nutrients.

@poru It is yellow. It's been this way for about a month, and I have no idea what the deal is. I'm eating exactly the same as I always have, and she doesn't really have issues with gas or constipation. I haven't really worried about it since she doesn't seem bothered by it, but I do plan to mention it at her appointment on the 10th.

I'm jealous of this buttered popcorn poop you guys are always speaking of. DD is EBF and her poop always stinks! It's kind of a sour smell, certainly not sweet

My baby's started out this way, but it certainly doesn't smell that way anymore!

We are about 50/50. I killed my supply being back at work so I just nurse when we are together, but often have to follow up with formula when I'm done nursing anyway.
This kid is a bottomless pit! He's only 13ish pounds, maybe he is trying to catch up.

Cora's EBF poop smells pretty sour to me but my sister in law apparently disagrees. She was like, "oh, she smells so good- like cheesecake!" and I just thought she was crazy until I took her back and smelled poop. Poor thing probably sat in that poopy diaper for half an hour.
It's normal for EBF poops to thicken at this age. They can also go longer between, up to a week. I think their bowels are maturing and can digest more efficiently. Or something.
Have a FB friend who has a son that is three months old. She is the uber competitive type that has to have the perfect baby who's advanced beyond his age. It's ridiculous. Anyway, she posted today that her son is starting mashed organic bananas because her pedi said he was ready for it. She also claims her EBF baby is drinking 15 Oz a session. Is that even possible for a 3 month old to handle that amount if breast milk?!
my baby just got a job at NASA and can use chopsticks.
Not sure which thing I'm more impressed by.I suck with chopsticks.
@embear22, I started giving dd yogurt at 6 months. She never had any issues. Dairy is "allowed" before a year; it just shouldn't replace breast milk or formula before 1 to prevent anemia.

Um, can I ask why no dairy before one year? I've never heard this before. My MIL is like dead set on us letting her try some of our frozen yogurt when we get some. My LO Mspi so I'm like well her tummy can't handle it, plus the formula is so nasty I'm afraid when she tastes something good I'll have trouble getting her to eat it and it's her main food source etc.. Insert lol but it's in all seriousness. But id like to be able to tell her fact why she can't have it.
I think the theory is because baby's digestive system isn't fully developed, the earlier you give certain foods, the more likely they are to develop a food allergy. Hence leaving Dairy as long as possible and one reason not to start solids before 6 months. though I have also heard that if you leave it too long they can develop food allergies as well because of lack of exposure!
Basically you cant win no matter what you do!

Holy shit. One of my friends has been traveling for work and pumping... United Airlines just lost her cooler with 200 oz in it. WHAT?!?
Omg. That's like the plot to a horror movie for breastfeeding moms! I would've had to keep it with me as a carry on tho, I totally don't trust airlines.
I don't think you can... It would be over the liquid limit right? I want to cry for her and write mean letters...

You have that limit for domestic flights as well?? Oh crap that sux!
Oh and because BM will totally explode midflight right!
I know in NZ you can but (and I quote) "Any baby milk, sterilised water or liquid food may be required to be tasted by the passenger to verify it's authentic" Could you imagine trying to taste 200oz!

DH says that your friend needs to send them a bill for the $ value of the milk, and her time producing it. He said to start at $100 an ounce. I asked him where that dollar value came from, and I quote "Supply and demand! I'm the only supply, and my baby demands it! Heck, prices are going up since they lost it and that cuts supply."
In all seriousness though, that makes me sick to my stomach and I want to cry for her.
I would be pissed if they lost all my milk. That's ridiculous!
BIRL when I was exhausted and pumping in the newborn days I would make up words to the sound of my pump. Now that I'm not pumping, I'm not so crazy, just exhausted.
For those of you wanting to get back into reading, I found this list of books that are supposed to be good. I think we all read "my husbands secret" last year. If not then, I definitely recommend it. I'm putting the rest of the books on my reading list.
