  • @mom2boxers How did the sleep sack nap experiment go for your LO's naps at daycare? Hope it worked out for you!

  • Yesterday DH and I had our first serious conversation about thinking we might go for a third kid since we're starting to get a handle on this whole 2u2 thing. Then my toddler kept me up all.night.long. Cruel game.
  • I'm assuming this is just a growth spurt, but can a baby eat too much? All weekend DS has been ravenous. He would nurse until I was bone dry and freak out until I gave him a bottle and then nurse again afterwards. My mom is watching him today and he has had 12 ounces within 4 hours.....normal? Or could something else be at play? That's double what he has normally had in that amount of time.

  • Uggghhhh this baby! She's been fussy and I finally got her to fall asleep in my arms, two minutes later something the builders were doing in the basement set off all the smoke alarms and woke her up. Surprisingly she thought it all hilarious. Then I'm talking to DH on speaker phone and her daddy's voice coming out of the phone was absolutely terrifying and it took forever to calm her down. Now she's not happy and we're both exhausted :(

    It's normal for a baby's appetite to jump and fall like craziness, so I wouldn't automatically assume there's anything wrong with it. I mean, yes, it's possible for a baby to overeat, but if he's not spitting everything up then I would just assume he's going through a growth spurt.

    The pump I used when DD was getting breast milk always used to "say" the same thing to me, but I can't remember what it was anymore. DH swears the pump I use now says "om-boo-ray, om-boo-ray..."

  • Whew, finally caught up!

    @Deidremaria hugs to you.

    @Poppyseedwindsor, Congratulations!!!

    @Celticlullaby I hope you feel better soon.

    I am so torn right now.  Before we ever had children, I told DH that I don't believe in spanking.  I was spanked a couple of times growing up, and don't remember it, but I think there are other ways.  Well DH has been really regressing in his potty training, so the point where we have been changing his underwear more often than we had to change his diapers when he was in them.  He would get off the toilet, poop, we would put him back on the toilet, clean him up, put him in new underwear, and he would poop again.

    Two weekends ago, he and DH went camping together. DH asked him if he needed to go potty a couple of times leading up to their hike together and DS said no both times, as they were getting ready to go, DH smelled poop and took DS to the bathoom.  As DH was cleaning DS up, it became clear that he had been sitting in it for a while, and lied to DH about it.  DH cleaned him up, gave him a smack on the bum and they went for their hike.

    DS hasn't had an accident since then.  He is even wake up dry overnight.

    DH didn't tell me until Friday night that he had done that.  I mentioned how great Chase was doing with his potty training and DH spilled the beans because he has been feeling guilty for a week.

    I know he didn't really hurt Chase, just scared him, and I'm absolutely thrilled that Chase has finally figured it out, especially since we have tried everything (3 day potty training, sticker chart, M&M's, taking away toys, earning a trip to the movies, etc.)  I hate that this is what worked.  Sigh.

    Try not to be too hard on yourself (or your husband). It was a one-time thing, and it seems like that's what needed to happen in order for Chase to make progress. You said yourself that nothing else was working. As long as he doesn't seem traumatized by what happened (you said he didn't hurt him, just scared/surprised him), then you should really try to not let it bother you too much. Easier said than done, I know, but if he's happy and the same sweet boy (who's now successfully going potty! <:-P) then you should try to move forward!

  • @Ashleypixie‌ (((hugs))) mama! Hopefully LO was able to calm down and you were both able to relax.

    Haha thanks! I got her to fall asleep again, then some guy came to the door to drop off some wood (they're supposed to just put it in the basement) and my hippy little dog went insane. Fortunately though, she woke up for a second and then just passed out. Whatever.

    No? something else?

    DD has been really interested in food for the last couple of weeks and has mostly lost her tongue thrust reflex. a week ago we let her have a little taste of Kumara (like sweet potato but more purple and sweeter) and she loved it! So the last three nights I have given DD a little bit of pureed pumpkin and sweetcorn, which she also loved! It was so cute seeing her open her mouth and actually move her head toward the spoon! Did not expect that! and by a little bit I mean maybe a tablespoon in total.

    Now I had actually intended on just doing BLW once she was 6 months, shes only 4.5m now, so it way too soon to do solids really.

    BUT.. the last 3 nights she has slept right through... I don't believe in doing something just because it helps them sleep through, and it could be a coincidence. We have also started her in a sleep sack which may also be helping.

    My dilemma, do I keep up with a small amount of puree each night, or not! lol. This is one of those "I would never do that" things (feeding any solids before 6 months!". Although my biggest reason to leave solids till 6 months is because I'm too cheap to pay for baby food, so the plan was to start BLW where she will get a small sample of what ever we were eating - appropriate of course.

    Why is it so hard to make simple decisions! My gut is to leave it another month because I don't want to risk the possibility of food allergies, though no one in either of our families has any food allergies at all.

    ETA wow sorry for the novel. I guess I'm really just thinking out loud, but would be interested in your feedback.

  • We are waiting until 6 months and starting BLW like we did with DS1. Who knows if it actually helps with food allergies, but the chance that it might seems worth it to me to not have to deal with life long food concerns. Also, this being my second, I'm not nearly as excited to get him started on solids as I was with DS1. It really is a PITA for awhile.

    That being said, I'm not at all judgy towards those who start solids earlier. You know what's best for your situation :)

    My instinct would be to wait until she is 6 months, but that is much easier to do when your LO isn't interested in food.

    My Mom gave Carlene a taste of ice cream last night.  I wasn't happy, mainly because we're not introducing dairy until she is a year old.

    Yeah I'm going with the sleep sack ;) I definitely wont be giving her any the next few nights so will see what happens. Its only really 6 weeks till shes 6 months so that's nothing! Just hope she will wait that long now that she has had a taste! lol

    Yeah that's one that's not even an option!! I've had a few people ask if I've given her icecream and I
    I'm hell no! And as we are heading into summer, this is going to be tricky!

    I was talking to DH about it and I'm going to be really strict about what I give her. He let her try some yogurt yesterday when I was at work - which she hated (thank god!). I didn't say anything to him about the whole dairy thing, but my biggest thing was actually the added sugar! I'm really against things that are processed because of the added crap. Another reason for the BLW.

    Thanks ladies, I'm going to stick with my instinct and just wait.
