Considering my username is the name of a Britney song I'm loving this random thread title!
I survived my first sober wedding on Saturday. I never realized how annoying it is being around drunk people when I'm completely sober. At least the food was good!
Happy birthday @meladoriestar !!! I somehow missed that.... Sorry you've been having some "fun" family meals. And I'm not ROOD like Moaster, she says crazy cat lady like it's a bad thing....
That's so awesome that you have someone as cool as Wendy near you to G2G with! There are some pretty rad ladies within reach of Chicago but that would take some organizing. Color me jealous! I'm glad it was fun and that neither of you turned out to be big hairy dudes!
I was going to be in town visiting my sister for the weekend anyhow so I figured why not make the most of it. I can confirm she is not a big hairy dude. She is a good foot taller than my sister and I though.
Hahahaha yes I forgot to mention I was sitting down when she and her sister walked up to me and when I stood up I felt like a giant lol! Wendy looked up at me and said "you are so tall". I felt bad that I wore my sandals with heels lol
How tall are you? I secretly love hearing about other tall women because I always feel like a giant!
5'8"
Average height for women is like 5'4. I'm 5'6 so I guess that makes me slightly taller than average too.
@janda426 I'm sorry that your brother is giving you so much grief! Stay strong and remember that you've already given him plenty of time (and warning that he needed to leave). You sound like an amazing sister, but remember that you have yourself and your new little one to look after and it sounds like your brother is plenty old enough to be out on his 'own'. Try not to feel bad for encouraging him to leave the nest ... you're not his parent and shouldn't have to be. Good luck with it, and try to feel better because it is not worth stressing over a grown brother who just needs some tough love.
@jcar2 I'm a FTM, but have been having hip pain lately! Almost feels like bruising, to me. I haven't found anything that helps yet, but it seems to stem from sleeping on my side at a weird angle that I like, lol! I'm planning to try one of those pillows to sleep with.
@meladoriestar Wow!! That sounds tough, with a family like that. They did remember that it's your birthday, I hope?
I took ASL in college and was fluent until I stopped using it. We always signed some things to her but really started teaching around six months. She ends up adjusting signs slightly but in a consistent manner, so we know what they mean. She has over 50 words verbally but doesn't use a ton of them on a daily basis to communicate and some words that she knows the sign and word for she prefers to sign. Babies actually pick up on signs fairly easy and then they can use them, even when they talk a lot, because sometimes communicating is frustrating for toddlers and they might prefer to sign. E uses about 15 signs vs her 50 or so verbal words and only a few double up as of now.
Holy crap @frecklesinside that makes me feel concerned about my 20 month old with 5 words in his verbal vocabulary, 4 of which he has had for the last 4 months already.

Try not to do the compare and worry thing. All kids develop differently. Some learn the verbal stuff first and some focus on physical first. As long as they are within normal limits it will all even out soon enough.

Eh they all develop at different rates. I think pedis are only looking for a handful by 18 months. Plus if you hung out with E, you'd think she only had like 10 because there are about that many she uses often...the others are occasional or when prompted. And some aren't even full words, but we know what they mean. I'm also counting animal noises and I'm not sure if those count...

Thank you, I need to hear this. Its getting easier to accept as the day goes on. I just want my house back.

Tough love is hard but he knew about this wayyyyyy in advance. You've mentioned it often to us, meaning you've mentioned it often to him, I'm sure, and he has made zero preparations because he didn't take you seriously. He cannot continue to take advantage of you. You have a baby to prepare for. He needs to figure out how to be an adult who can support himself. Tough love is the way to go. Hugs.

Thank you! This is what I've been saying but seeing it typed out really solidifies it for me. I just don't see how anyone could make H and I the bad guys after a combined 19 months (we've kicked him out once before) he spent living here for free. It's been a long time coming. We're just gonna rip the bandaid off and try to move on.
@jm0848 sorry I just now saw that you mentioned me previously. We were concerned with our Great Danes attention span, too. Thankfully she learned quick! How old is your Great Dane?
@SNLT1012 my dad taught us that if you take a shower as hot as you can stand, it draws the heat out of the sunburn. Hurts like hell when the water first hits it, but I have used that trick on many bad burns. Slather aloe after your shower and you'll be sitting pretty. DH took this picture of my burn last year...used that trick and it had pretty much completely faded and didn't hurt at all by the next day.
@jm0848 ours will be 4 in November! Every dane owner we meet says theirs calmed down around 1.5 and I really hope ours calms down soon with a baby coming. But, I just realized recently that all of those owners had infants or toddlers. So, maybe she is waiting for a baby to start acting like a family dog!
@SNLT1012 also, vinegar will take some of the sting out too. Take a vinegar bath (1/3 vinegar to 2/3 lukewarm water) and soak in it.
ETA: that's not what Google says but vinegar was the only thing that saved me when I got burned a few months ago. I actually soaked paper towels in it and put it directly on my burn.
Wooohoooo! Today is a productive day! I was sharking Craigslist and I saw someone was selling a tall changing table for only 25 bucks! It needs some refinishing, but it is pretty and has drawers. I feel like a mighty hunter of furniture!
@Peledreamsofrain I like it! And that dresser in the background. My favorite color.
My parents are giving us the dresser they used as a changing table for me and my brother. It comes with a bookcase that can be added when kiddo(s) is out of diapers. I'm pumped, but it has to be refinished too.
We are headed home from my 93-year-old grandmother's house. I love her, but being with her is hard. I think she was just getting used to us when we had to leave. I so wish she lived closer.
Ugh I feel like I've been getting lightheaded easier and easier these days. My doctor said just be sure I'm eating but I feel like something else is going on. Saturday I was snacking all day long and still felt weak and lightheaded when I was out shopping.

Your hormones cause your blood vessels to dilate which can cause dizziness and lightheadedness. I hope it gets better!
