Yep, every year that's my main objective from corporate: develop a new, extremely virulent form of influenza and then find a cure for it.

Except, yeah, we still haven't gotten that cure part down yet.  Damn.

We also create new cancers on a daily basis.  It's a fun game we play to pass the time.

Y'all are funny but my opinion sticks. I have know to many people who have gotten it and then gotten the flu. I have never had the flu so why get it. My opinion. That is all.
  • My dresser arrived yesterday! And it's fucking destroyed :(( The entire back of it is caved in I called you freight company immediately and they are refusing to pick it up because it is apparently my responsibility at 8 months pregnant to carry it inside and somehow open this thing and inspect it all before signing to say I received it.

Add on to this that DH is going into his 5th interview with this company today (6th is scheduled for Tuesday) with no idea if or when they'll ever do a job offer. My last day of work (and therefore the last of our income) is coming up fast. And to top it off, I have 2 hemeroids that are getting worse by the day.

I'm about ready to crawl into a hole.

  • Sidenote about my flu shot yesterday:

The girl who gave it to me was like, wayyyyy oversharing. She was really nice. But she was asking who my doctor was, and telling me about how EVERYONE tears, but it doesn't matter, it wasn't that bad, she loves her baby, etc. Then she made some comment about how she's had to have at least 100 tests and shots over the course of her life because she was very sick as a kid.

I feel like I did not give a proper response, which was to ignore that comment. Was I supposed to ASK why she was sick? Or if she is better now? I don't know how to interact with real people.

I have left that task in DHs very capable hands and because the guy at Estes made my cry on the phone, I wouldn't be surprised if we end up not only getting a new one, but probably a refund. DH is very good at what he does.

    To protect your fucking baby.

I've never gotten the flu OR the shot, either, but I want to make sure my BABY doesn't get it when she's 5 days old. And the flu shot isn't even MY big sticking point, but I really REALLY hope you got the TDAP. But since your doctor doesn't even bother with an anatomy scan to make sure your baby is healthy and alive, I'm going to guess you didn't get that either.

And P.S., the more people who think the way you do, the more dangerous it is for MY baby. You refuse to vaccinate (I'm assuming you feel the same about vaccinations), and that puts MY kid at risk until she's able to be vaccinated herself.

    Now back to ignoring you.

I have had a new born. She never got the flu. I have had a child who has never gotten the flu. I believe in building your baby's own immunities before introducing any thing to your baby. I got the tdap because my doc. Insisted it would be best considering the amount of unvaccinated people coming across our border. And it could be life threatening. I'm not saying we aren't vaccinate for things like hep or Disease. Im saying (in my opinion) it's better to let your body get stronger and do what it should naturally do. That is all.

  • @jalara48 - Thank you!

I am one of those unfortunate people who anaphylaxed with the flu vaccine as a kid.  Hives, trouble breathing, the works due to my egg allergy... so I Iove people who understand how important the flu vaccine is to protect the safety of others (like me!).

I am also one of those fortunate people who has friends and family who get the flu shot to protect me.  Even working in a hospital, I have only had the flu 2 times in my whole life thanks to people around me being vigilant about vaccination.

In short, vaccinate yourself, and when your kids are old enough, vaccinate them.  Be a responsible adult and make decisions that encourage the health of everyone.
@crawford411  Can you receive Flublock? It's protein based and manufactured sans eggs or influenza virus.

We just started watching that movie last night! Too sleepy to make it more than an hour of the way through. Hopefully we'll finish it tonight. It's the first time I've watched one of these types of movies without having read the book first.

  • I will say one finall thing. The FDA is the reason we grow our own produce and farm out own cattle. But keep trusting in them I'm sure they have your best interest at heart. And not there wallets. I guess since the FDA approved fracking and it's destroying peoples drinking water and underwater wells the the point they can light there water on fire, it's fine to drink also.
Having to put fences around your pounds to keep cattle from dying will really open your eyes. But thanks for letting me know I can trust in them. I really needed to know I can.

Now I have to shower. Pack and get dressed for my early view app. So I can go make sure my baby's is alive. Since I must be to stupid to know on my own.

Update: my doctor did an anatomy scan. He just never called it that. So I was confused. He will be doing it again soon. He doesn't believe in unnessary SG. Since it can be disturbing to the baby. But thanks guys for being concerned.

In theory... probably.  But I haven't for two main reasons:

    1. Because I never anaphylaxed with eggs (just had allergic reactions) and did anaphylax with the flu vaccine, I have never been able to find a doctor willing to give it to me.  We can't 100% guarantee that it was the egg protein and not something else that did it.
    2. I did some research, and it's recommended to be given to people with known anaphylactic reactions to the vaccine in the emergency room with epinephrine readily available.  This scares me shitless and definitely isn't something I'd try pregnant.
    3. It is very hard to find in our area, has to be special-ordered, and costs a fortune.  It is not covered by our insurance due to cheaper vaccinations being available.  Add to that the cost of having it administered under medical supervision and possible in the ED, and it just isn't worth it to me.

So for now, I am holding off and waiting until they do more research on it for people like me.  As soon as I'm convinced it's safe for me, I will do it.  In the meantime, I will continue begging everyone else around me to do it.  I even run the flu clinics at my work to help get all of our employees vaccinated.

    @crawford411

Makes total sense!  I hope no one around you gives you a hard time about their getting vaccinated!

  • @krysgreg‌ how the hell do you get confused with not having an a/s? The ultrasound takes like an hour and they are doing measurents the whole time.
I'm not going to say I completely relate, BUT neither my OB nor the ultrasound tech actually called it an a/s. I knew what it was based on our BMB.

It's didn't take my doctor an hour maybe 30 min. I'm sure after doing it thousands of times he knows what he is looking for. My DH was also there. I was distracted. He did it vaginal. It was awkward for me to have it done with him in the room. But thanks for your concern

I'm glad I pay for insurance. It's helpful.
Speaking of insurance, when does the flu shot become available? I want all of us to get at home to get it before baby is born.
*** My OB gave me one at my appointment this past Tuesday, so they must be available now.
    Good to know!
My OB told me she'd give it to me before I left the hospital. Should we be getting it while still pregnant?
I think the CDC recommends it now to help protect the baby.
Had to add to this... there was a local story in my town within the last year where a pregnant woman died from the flu.  Not very common I know, but the doctors reported that had she gotten the flu vaccine, it could have been prevented and that they strongly encourage pregnant women to get the vaccination.  This is not medical advice - everyone should check with their Dr. of course!
