MOTN FEEDINGS Weekender Edition

Re: MOTN FEEDINGS Weekender Edition

  • Breastfeeding dreams continue to make me weird. I woke DF up because I was digging around in the blankets because I thought I fell asleep with C on the boob. Also had a dream that DF was standing over me demanding that I feed C so he could sleep.

This is particularly annoying because C is sleeping so well but I'm not really due to these dreams!

  • Who keeps their LO upright for 30 min after feeding in MOTN? I was putting him on my chest to do so but if it really necessary? Burping when he falls asleep at the boob is also hard.

Mine has reflux so I am keeping her upright at least 30 minutes. I try to lightly burp her if she falls asleep, but I don't force it.

At night I try to do a burp when he's got about half an ounce left, so I can get that burp but then let him feed to sleep, but he's bottle fed so I probably have an easier time of that than if you nurse. Then I do minutes instead of 30 because I need sleep. So far the time difference doesn't seem to bother him much.

  • Do any of you do dream feeds? If so how do you do it? Is it easier with a bottle or on the breast? I feel like it would be really hard to breast feed him while he's asleep, and I wouldn't want to wake him up too much because that defeats the point of a dream feed.
  • @astalyons‌ did you burp him afterwards?
  • I don't know what's happened to LO. We were doing ok, 2-3 hours at a time as at night in his bassinet but better than nothing. This week he wakes up within minutes of being put down. Won't sleep at night unless it's with me. However, he also started taking regular daytime naps... Maybe it has to do with the growth spurt?

    I feel like a terrible mom :(

  • Got my girl down at about 7:30pm after she hasn't been sleeping between 1pm and 3am She slept on me for an hour before I had to pee so bad I took a risk and putting her in her swing. Score 2 hours later she is still asleep. I should be sleeping as well.. but after a 10min cat nap trying to sleep sitting up in the chair, I am now wide awake.. so I am sitting on my lap top enjoying a phone free screen haha
  • @Lilygrace48‌ before H and I were married, I almost broke up with him because of that game. It's evil.

W is asleep and I can't sleep. I'm just hoping she gives me another 3 hours so I can try to sleep a little. I really need to break the habit of just pulling her into bed with me. She's so gassy and uncomfortable if she doesn't burp after she eats.

Lo has slept some good stretches the past two nights and i was excited thinking he would continue. Nope, we are on MOTN feed number 2 already. I just want to sleep!! It's nights like tonight that make me want to quit breastfeeding so DH can help out at night.

If it helps you feel better, I'm not breastfeeding and DH still doesn't help out at night...

Sounds like a growth spurt. Don't worry, you are doing fantastic mama! He just needs you more right now.

  • @saltylovely‌ we have definitely had some major arguments about it, and another one coming. Since we met he's quit twice and started again. Right before charlie was born he said he'd quit by the fifteenth of this month...not so much. You do not get to bitch to me about how tired you are when three nights a week, just as charlie wakes up for his first feed, you say how tired you are and go to bed.

  • I am starting to hallucinate I'm so tired. I don't know why DD is hazing me on the nights that DH is traveling for work.

  • So I think the lack of sleep may be getting to me--I'm getting crazy ideas up in here.  My grandparents (who I usually only get to see once or twice a year) are in town for the day and coming by at 10am to see the girls (they're going to my cousin's graduation in the afternoon so have to come early).  In order to make sure I'm somewhat presentable for them, I'm planning to take a shower after I'm done pumping, then hopefully get another hour of sleep before the girls wake back up for their next bottle.  I'm afraid if I don't get cleaned up now, I'll still be in my pajamas feeding babies when they show up.  I'm somewhat longing for the days when I could jump in the shower 20 minutes before I needed to be ready to go...now I'm lucky if I can get out the door before it's time for the next feeding. Le sigh - I miss my bed.
  • C has been up for an hour with no end in sight. He won't stop wiggling and won't relax. I'm so tired..

I usually can't get mine to burp after any motn feedings. He grunts a lot in his sleep afterwards so I feel like I need to burp him before I put him back in his crib, but how do you burp a passed out baby? He almost always burps after he eats during the day.

If he's passed out in the MOTN I don't burp him. Seems like he'll let me know if he's uncomfortable.
  • LO has taken on full on grudge matches with her swaddle. I can't stand it. To me, that quality of sleep and that amount of stress seem unhealthy. Even though she doesn't fully wake, I've been waking her up. I don't know if that's right or wrong but I'm going with my gut.

Asked DH to do the same with bottle tonight. I guess he disagreed and was annoyed with what I've been doing.

I've been keeping it together and not fighting with him for the most part... But I'm so tired of him complaining he's tired because he did one motn feeding or heard me get up three times. I'm so over it. I'm sure he's tired but I am on 24/7. Breastfeeding has not been easy lately and sleep regression has made everything worse. I wish I could get a little appreciation for IMO, being a rock star mom.

Anyway, needed to rant. Thx for letting me.

My baby is the coolest! We are on night 10 of sleeping 10-5. Sometimes (like this morning) he will go back down right away and sleep another couple hours. My boobs were in pain but I slept, he slept, DH slept, the dog slept (she "helps" with MOTN feedings), it has been amazing! Feel free to hate on me, I don't care because this mama is well rested!

Happy for you! How old is your LO and what is your routine if you don't mind me asking? My girl was the same until her 6 wk spurt ended- total sleep regression after that.

6 weeks yesterday so because it has been 10 days of wonderful I am hoping it isn't the growth spurt and he is just awesome. He has been a good sleeper from day one, like when we got home from the hospital we were only getting up once a night with him. Our routine is there is no routine during the day, feed when he wants to eat then at night, feed when he wants usually around 8pm and then he usually falls asleep but then we wake him up at 9:30 and feed again to fill him up, change him and put him down. (Run on sentence and I don't care). It works perfext because DH feeds while I do a power pump and then we all go to bed.

  • Not motn yet but I need to vent. H has worked long hours the past two weeks. I don't remember the last time he helped in the motn. Actually I really don't remember the last time he helped at all. Tonight he is helping because he doesn't work this weekend. I put C down and tell H I'll take the first shift. Then C starts fussing as we get in bed. I'm not moving. If I have to wake up in a few short hours H can get him to go back to sleep. So H acts like it's the end of the world! Why?! I'm furious.

  • Just woke up to pump and have a sore throat. Guess staying away from my parents for over a week didn't help. Hoping baby doesn't get it. :-(

@SaraJoy00‌ -- what kind of bouncer are you using & do you like it? Our bouncer is a hand me down & is very stiff. I'm looking for something that sits up higher and has more bounce. TIA.
I have this one.. (got it from my baby shower) its good, she likes it.. takes VERY little to make it bounce and the dangly toy stand comes off, so thats nice because she does't like it there right now anyways haha. it sits up enough for her where her head isn't falling forward.. right now as she is sleeping I put a pillow under the front so it is laying more flat haha.

My mom is staying at our house overnight on her way through town. She decided to sleep on the couch so that I don't have to change sheets on the guest room bed. Nice thought, but now she's in my way for motn pumping. Guess who's going to be waking up as soon as the kid finishes her bottle!

Edit - I did tell her to sleep in the bed because I would need to pump. She ignored me. I'm not actually trying to wake her up...good thing she's a fairly heavy sleeper.
  • Second time up tonight and LO just pooped again. She's recently started having most of her BMs at night. Anyone else? I think it is causing more swaddle fighting than usual.
  • So much for that shit.. Husband came home took a shower and is now asleep on the couch... I am left putting her to sleep again..

    Effff you!!
  • @MommyWaldron‌ awe, I am glad his intentions were good instead of "oh yeah, I forgot to put it in the fridge" kind of waste!
Its sweet that he didnt want to hear the baby fuss!

We are on our 3rd formula switch... Hoping things turn around in a couple days.. She seems to be showing improvement! I hope it keeps up!
  • It isn't MOTN just really early am. LO has been sleeping so great for a while now. My boobs however do not appreciate the extra hours. It is ok on the weekends because I can pump right when he wakes up because DH feeds him but during the week I have to feed him before I pump. I can't hold him up against my chest or burp him on me and I can tell I am just sitting here leaking. The solution would be to get up and pump during the MOTN but I just really love sleeping.
  • I hate the night sweats/hot flashes! And I hate going to bed freezing. I know mostly it's hormones but I think partially the air conditioning and our heat wave! Whew!

Omg I didn't realize that going to bed freezing cold was a pp thing! The last
Two nights I thought I was losing my mind I was so cold!
  • Stupid effing Pampers stole a half hour of sleep. Major blowout that took 6 wipes to manage, all of which LO slept through. So now I am dealing with poopy laundry that my 3am mind couldn't comprehend. Then, LO wakes up, so we are doing a feed.

However, I was able to put her down drowsy, so I got a 2 hour nap, with a break to pump/shower, plus another 2 hours of sleep. She slept from 10p to 3 plus her drowsy time on the changing table.

Being with my LO rocks! DD born 6/13/14.

  • Man LO was doing so well today and then of course the times i wanted her to sleep so i could sleep she wouldnt.. Now its 2am and she has been awake since 10pm fussing and fighting ughhh go to sleeeeep! I have blood work to do in the morning and apparently DHs sleep during the week is more important than my sleep so he gets priority and gets to sleep if he is tired.
