Just saw this on amazon. Isn't this dangerous?? The first thing I imagine is a baby choking from too much milk flow and wanting to be done, but neglectful mommy is nowhere to be found.
Oh my goodness, that's a tragedy waiting to happen! Almost as bad as a mom giving her baby too much banana pudding...

Well, the question still stands then. I've read mixed things on foods mom eats affecting baby. Just wondering if anyone had any input on that based on their own experiences...
She hasn't pooped today, which I know can be very normal (she did twice yesterday), but she's been grunting and clinching her tummy like she's trying. Nothing comes of it though except for a mad, hurting baby and a helpless mom.

We are doing a delayed vax schedule with LO, so at his 2mo appt we asked which was the most important for him to get that day and then we would come again in 2 weeks to get another (today). My doc said to do the hib, so when the nurse came to give him the poke I assumed that's what it was. The nurse was already annoyed enough with me that I wouldn't let her give the vax until after meeting with my doc, and I had explained to her that we only wanted one at a time. She made some comment about how some vax's are for multiple diseases and I said I knew that and that was fine, but I wanted it broken up as much as possible (ex: dtap doesn't generally come split up). (This is the same nurse who hardcore judged me for asking to BF during the injection) Anyway, so when I made the appointment for today's vax I told then I wanted him to get the dtap. Well the nurse (different one) comes in, looks at his charts and is confused saying he already got it. I tell her there must be a mistake because he was supposed to get hib last time. She says that he got "pediarx" which is dtap+hep b+ polio. I was livid (not at her). That other nurse gave him the wrong vax which means she wasn't listening to me OR my doc!!! I have a plan for how I want my son vaccinated and I'm incredibly frustrated that this nurse either failed at her job or went behind my back to give him a different vax. The nurse today confirmed that they can (and do) give each of those vax's separately so it wasn't even a matter of availability. As my doctor said, I am the parent, I get to decide when bad for what he gets vaxed for.
Not taking him back until his 4mo appt now. I want to talk to the doctor before we proceed with any more shots AND I will be asking to see the label on each vax from now on.
And THAT was only one of the shitty things that happened today. Plus, poor guy has a fever now.
I'm grumpy.

@poru I had a bad reaction to the tdap so I wanted to know when A got his dtap so I could watch to see if he had an issue with it too. Thankfully he didn't, but what if he had reacted poorly to anything in that vax and I wasn't able to correctly tell the ER what shot he'd had? Ugh.

I feel the same way about not having a "village" @poru and I'm sorry about your parents, that really sucks. DH's parents are retired and we basically have to beg them to visit us or drive up to see them. Meanwhile, DH's boss had a baby a week before us and his parents came over from India for a few weeks to help out. When they found out that they were going to put the baby in daycare, they decided to stay for several months instead, like daycare was this awful thing. I felt so crushed after hearing that. Sometimes I really hate the "every man for himself" culture that seems so prevalent here.
The "village" is legit the only reason we stay in our neighborhood. We have a very rare group of parents who are incredibly supportive and awesome. Most of us live away from family, so the sense of community is key. We've been the recipient of it and are now paying it forward by cooking meals for new parents, signing up for a babysitting co-op, etc. There are lots of cons to living here, but right now we feel lucky to have this community and know that we probably wont find it elsewhere.
Joining the gym, not because of a great desire to work out but because for $43 a month I get a hour and half child care time a day. Totally using it right now to have relaxing time in the bathroom without a baby crying and a toddler crawling all over me. In a little bit I'm going to go float in the pool and then take a nice shower.
Need some advice... My mom watches DD four days a week and my MIL watches her one. My mom is for the first time today taking her somewhere (to see my grandma). MIL hasn't stayed home a single day (that I can think of) while watching DD. I've been back at work for 5 weeks and MIL will have DD 3 days this week. Yesterday, they went shopping and walked around downtown with her for a few hours. No idea what they'll do tomorrow and Thursday, but I'm willing to bet they won't be home. At my mom's, DD is on a pretty good schedule but she has to start over every time my MIL has her. Am I wrong to be upset that she never stays home? I get that she still has stuff to do, but she is off work 3 days a week and only has DD for one of those days. The part that upsets me the most is that she has said to DH when he got there to just leave DD in her seat because they were leaving right away. He told her she needed to eat and she said she would try to hold her off until she got where she was going. My DH was dumbfounded. What do we do? We are grateful that she helps watch DD, but obviously I'm not okay with the never being home and holding her off when she needs to eat.
Nursing last night was hurting. This morning I got up and looked in the mirror and what do I see? A giant scratch running down my boob and across my nip. No wonder! But I have no idea how it got there. :-?

Does it not matter how much is used? I'm not using much at all, and I smear it around on my fingertip so there's not a glob that can end up in her throat. Not sure outside of that why gel is bad when the liquid has the same active ingredient. X.x;; Now I'm curious.

@AprilMay9 odd question but are you still nursing?
Just comfort nursing :- /
You can do that?? I'm switching to formula but now I'm having a hell of a time figuring out how I'm going to soothe Ellie and dry up at the same time.
Even though I had zero supply I didn't dry up and stop leaking until I stopped comfort nursing Although he didn't seem to mind when I stopped, he's all about mama snuggles and a paci.
Just went to my first moms group. I'm not sure this is the group for me. At 37 years old, I am a good ten years older than these ladies and their kids are at least a year older than my LO. They were very nice but I'm not sure how much we have in common. Somehow being the oldest by so much just made me feel even more lonely. I'm going to go again but I'm thinking I need to find other options.
I'm going to a mom's group later this week and I worry about that a little too (I'm 39). But then I remember my social group goes from mid-20s to mid-60s so, eh, whatever. Honestly, I am more worried about slipping into Bump lingo while chatting: "My ell-oh does this..."
I would give it at least one more try...I often find it takes a couple meetings to gel with people.

I have the opposite problem. At 31 I am one of the youngest in our group which I thought was weird. At First I didn't think I would have very much in common with everyone but having babies the same age really makes it so you have a ton in common. Give it a few meetings until you completely write them off.
Geeze. Sometimes the bump really makes me feel inadequate because my baby doesn't do some of the things others are doing. I know every baby is different but still...
Starting to stress out. It's only 8 weeks until we move somewhere and we still have no idea where that somewhere will be! All I know is that it will be in the USA. I've been so busy with the boys by myself that I haven't had time to think about it. I just want to know where I'm moving to!!

I know the feeling! We're still six months out and pretty sure we know where we're going, but we should get verbals this week and I'm kinda freaking about it. Even though it's 99% certain what it will be!

They don't recommend any version of benzocaine (or any teething medication) for infants for that reason. It's not so prevalent of a problem that it's off the shelves, so it's in the "questionable shit/use at your own risk" category, like crib bumpers. I found with my first (before I learned this) that the numbing stuff actually extended the teething periods when I used them - DD1 got comfortable, so she wasn't chewing, and thus not helping the tooth break through.
Ah, I didn't think of that. Hmm. =/

They just drool the gels off anyway, so it doesn't stay on long enough to do much. Baby Tylenol is your best bet to treat the pain. Teethers are hard when they're this little, but you could try freezing a wet baby washcloth and see if she'll gnaw on that. Good luck, @SoulTermination!
Thanks! I did try freezing a wet baby washcloth and she just screamed harder after trying to chew on it. I think I'll use some of my small ice cubes in a regular, soft washcloth and use a hair tie to keep it closed for her to chomp on. My fingers and nips need a break! XD

I had a similar situation when my son was born. We refused the erythromycin eye ointment because it wasn't necessary in our case, but I wanted him to receive the Vit K and Hep B injections. When my (amazing) L&D nurse was giving handover to the receiving PP nurse, she said DS had only received the Vit K and still needed his Hep B. The PP nurse goes "why hasn't he had the eye ointment?" and the other nurse told her it was because we didn't want that one (in a "no big deal" kind of way).
So, fast forward to about five minutes later. PP nurse is asking me questions and says, "So, I guess you don't want the hepatitis B injection then, do you?" I just looked at her like she was being the judgy beyotch that she was and said, "Yes we do." So, you can imagine my confusion when the next day came, and DS still hadn't received the vaccine and we were approaching discharge. I asked my new Dayshift nurse about it, and she says, "Oh!
