Will you be waiting until your regular anatomy scan with your dr to find out the sex of the baby, or will you pay extra to go to a special place earlier to find out the sex?
We were going to pay the extra and have it done at 16 weeks, but my OB just so happened to want an u/s at my next appointment at 16 1/2 and said to just ask then. So best of both worlds, finding out before a/s and for free!
PCOS--TTC since 11/2010:
5 cycles of Clomid: all BFN, 1 cycle of Follistim:CP
1 year break thanks to deployment.
1 cycle Follistim: BFN, Lap to remove peritubal cyst May 2013
2 cycles Follistim + trigger: BFN, Gonal F +IUI April 2014: BFP!!!!!!
I asked my doctor if I could get an ultrasound at my next appointment (17 weeks) and he said I had to wait till the one after (20-21 weeks) I am anxious to know!
I've already scheduled an elective u/s to find out the sex at 16 weeks. My a/s isn't until 20 weeks and it's worth the extra money for me to not have to wait the extra month.
Waiting until 19w or whenever midwife sends me for another ultrasound. Although I'm 80% sure I'm having a girl! We will see if I'm right! My insurance fully covers all of my ultrasounds though and I'm sure if some of you wanna know you could just lie and say you're having bleeding! Every time I have had the tiniest issue my midwife sent me for an ultrasound. Which is why I'm only 10w and have had 3!
Wow, that's one of the most effed up things I've read in a while. I have integrity, so no, I won't "just lie and say I'm bleeding." I also hate when people waste medical resources. Impatience is not a medical issue. Also, as many women here can attest, bleeding is a horrible, scary thing. To lie about that is just disgusting. I'm disgusted after reading this.
As a mom who has experienced four miscarriages now, I would never lie about such a heart stopping thing. Not to mention that my husband works in the medical field and what a waste of his recourses and time would it be if his patience just lied to get his attention. Anyway... I really would like it at 15 weeks bc my son'a 2nd bday is that weekend and I'd love to have his bday cake be the gender reveal cake as well. I think I'm going to go for it!
Oh, and to answer the original question...I will be doing an elective ultrasound on 7/19 at 16w2d. I'm doing it in part because I'm not patient, and in part because DH won't be able to be at my A/S anyway. I want us to find out together, not have him find out with a phone call or FaceTime session. That also happens to be DH's birthday weekend so it's my little gift to him.

We just left our 12 week appointment and scheduled an elective ultrasound for 16 weeks. Not my idea, husband insisted. We did it my way and didn't find out last time, apparently we're doing it his way this time!
I can't believe they do this. I mean this is my third I have never heard of an early one for sex. hmmmm.....but no I wouldn't do it I'd rather use that $50 or whatever to buy a cute outfit for baby three weeks later after the A/S, but this is just us.

We are having the tech at our A/S write it down on a piece of paper that I am then taking to a store to give to the cashier. We're going to pick out a girl outfit and a boy outfit, then walk away and have the cashier ring up the right one and gift wrap it. Then we are taking it home and opening it together with our DD. SUPER cheesy but I think its cute and a fun way to find out!

Yeah, because lying and insurance fraud is totally acceptable. Thanks for raising the cost of healthcare, asshole.
I'm just trying to be patient and wait it out til 20w. If I want a private 3D one it will cost about £160! I can wait 6 more weeks I think!
@maribethgrace I can't believe you just said that. Lie about bleeding? I take it you've never actually went to the loo and seen fresh blood in your pants? That's scary enough but for it to turn into a M/C is the worst thing. I'd never dream of lying about something that will get put on my medical history for life.
@TRexsMum How come you got to find sex out so early at NT scan? Thought both sexes looked the same at that age? Don't buy team pink until you know for sure!
We are waiting until the anatomy scan, but I can get it as early as 18 weeks, so I schedule it that week. I don't see the point in paying extra for something I'll find out in a few weeks. However, I will ask for a guess at my nt scan, and yes, I know it is nothing more than a guess.

I had my NT scan on Saturday and you couldn't see jack shit. I really don't know how at 13 weeks a tech could make more than a 50/50 guess.

they have me a guess with ds1, and even though it was a guess, it was right. The tech did say not to buy anything though. However, dh swore he saw a scrotum.

I had a feeling that DD was a girl before her A/S. I was right. I am a psychic Good luck at your NT scan!

So gross. So, so gross. I hope you never have to deal with the actual reality of this. My m/c did not even deal with bleeding, but I am so severely offended.

I know I can schedule my anatomy scan around 18 weeks (which is exactly what I will do). I have no desire to pay to find out a couple weeks before that. Also, I am being WAY more patient this time. With my first I was incredibly antsy to find out. This time I want to know, but I am not bothered at all by the wait this time.
I thought I was being good and waiting till the anatomy scan at 20weeks 1 day. But my rather impatient mother found a place that for $49 will do it at 16 weeks and they guarantee it. Ug I am so torn. I was easily ruling it out at $100+ but at $49.......

So it's people like you who take up the valuable time of medical workers because you fake having an issue just to get an additional u/s. Good to know.
I pray you never experience a very real complication or even worse, a loss during a pregnancy. Because it is a seriously self blaming, soul crushing, life altering experience.
Found out at 13 weeks at our NT scan. We are having a girl.
You realize that this could very well be wrong? Hope you haven't gone out and bought everything in pink yet!
Right?
I mean- that's really early. We aren't finding out the gender but I asked the tech if she could see, just because I was curious- she could not. And we had some super clear shots of the baby. I would never trust a 13 week scan for the sex. At some point, they all look alike.

At my NT scan there was a pretty defined phallic shaped object between LOs legs. That being said (and as many have pointed out) at that point it could still go either way.

Not to mention your medical records will then be inaccurate which could interfere with getting the right kind of care.
Just to clarify some things, it does depend on which ultrasound machine is being used as to how early they can detect the gender. There are the more advanced ones that can easily tell at 12/13 weeks
You've got to be kidding me. What part of "they look the same whether it's a boy or girl at 12-13 weeks" do you not understand? They literally look the same. Some might argue the angle of the dangle but that's really irrelevant to this conversation.

Just stopping by to say how much I love the Louis C.K. gif Oh, and also no u/s tech can "easily tell" at 12/13 weeks.
@WillCMyInk so disappointed to see your immaturity and rudeness. I said nothing that deserved for you at attach a video. Poor thing. And may I ask what your background is? Are you in the medical field and how many risk risk pregnancies have you been through to get the privilege of using higher tech equipment. I hope you teach your child more kindness than this.
lol ok thanks ladies. This is my sixth pregnancies and I have asked many questions. Yes, when you go to a high risk office and they use specific machines, YES they do have a pretty good shot at being correct.
I have no problem correcting myself if I am wrong. Just based on my experiences, this is the information I have learned. My point is, even if you disagree with someone, be a respectful adult and kindly share proper information. It's in poor taste to make a scene out of your point. That's all.
