I went in early with DD because I was super impatient. It was a nice experience finding out there and the tech really took his time to make sure he was certain of the sex.
I don't know if I will wait until the A/S this time or not. I'm actually way more relaxed about it this time where it's my H who wants to know asap. Plus the A/S is about the health of the baby and they don't spend as much time on the genitals, especially if baby isn't cooperating. Eh, I'm undecided.
I'm not going to because my cnm and the genetics department recommended Verifi by Verinata. It's not cheap though, since I have a high deductible I get to pay for the full test, $655 plus the cost of going to genetic counseling. I'm ama though, finding out the sex it's just a bonus. This will replace the nt scan which would have cost me about $400 out of pocket, but this is more accurate so I opted for it.
@nickicl I just switched obs from midwife to ob actually and they offered me a panorama apparently it's taking place of the 12 week u/s and it does identify gender. I am not high risk at all.
What is a panorama?
As I stated before, I have no idea what the offering criteria for these services is, it may vary based on providers, etc.
However, I'm pretty sure I can't pick it up at Walgreens and do it myself.
For me, it was not offered and as I'm further along, there would be less incentive to go for that now.
Just curious ... Why are y'all correcting gender to sex?
Sex is between the legs, gender is between the ears.
Anyone have the chart for this?
Completely, understand the difference but I don't understand why there is such a drive to keep correcting people. For most, it is likely an honest mistake and the intent is clear.
@nickicl these are all blood tests that your ob would get. If you are AMA then insurance will probably cover it or if you are considered high risk. So no, not something you could pick up at Walgreens and do yourself.

Because educating someone is NEVER a bad thing.

Because you don't know who you may be offending due to your ignorance. It's better to use words correctly.
My two cents: Pregnancy is very medical. There's nothing wrong with getting excited about all the potential fun things that come along with it, but when it comes down to it, it's medical. All those "early sex tests" are MEDICAL tests that test for very serious conditions. Even the a/s is medical, not a sex reveal date.
I'm team green because to me that's fun. I totally get people finding out the sex...because that's fun for them. But it irks me when people sound so uneducated about the tests and procedures that are being completed on them.
Oh I see.... You mean for like homosexuals type stuff I guess. I can't imagine that's a common thing on this site, but Nice to know the reason for the concern.

And that would be an ignorant comment you shouldn't share with others. There are different sexualities on this board. Straight couples aren't the only ones that have babies. Fyi.

Oh, so you're a troll?
Or just a really insensitive and ignorant person?
FYI, the "homosexuals type" does exist on this site, and regardless, you should be aware, respectful, and sensitive about the proper terminology.
Ok the way I read the gender bread man thing was that gender is how you perceive yourself regardless of the sex right? So if you don't line up with those two, would it not be homosexual? I'm trying to understand as I'm not familiar.

You've got to be fucking kidding.
Right?

Well explain it to me please and the reason I said homosexual type stuff was to try to be loose with the term as not to say the wrong term ie gay etc. clearly I suck at this lol

I don't know if this is a legit request, but if so, the gingerbread graphic actually makes pretty clear the difference between gender identity and sexual orientation. Homosexual is not a gender identity. You don't really need anyone's help to understand this. This would be a good time to consult a dictionary. Start with homosexuality and transgender.
Deeper and deeper with what? It's quite comical how upset you'll get over something so silly. It's very entertaining really. I'm trying to give the benefit of doubt here and understand the comment bc I clearly do NOT understand it if you say my assessment was wrong. either answer my question or MoveOn and stop being middle school drama queens.

For people for whom these issues matter (to their identities, to how they are understood by others, to what rights they're accorded, to whether or not they're harassed, etc.) these issues aren't silly.

I wasted at least 10 minutes of my day typing to you......... I will never get those 10 minutes back. Trust me, this was the last 5 seconds I'm wasting.

This has to be a troll...the thread went down hill fast, then she started acting like maybe she was coming around...then she dove deeper into the abyss...I feel like I should have seen this coming...

With the hole you keep digging for yourself. These issues aren't silly. These issues deal with very real people, their livelihood, their families. If you are from the U.S., then it's proof how off base this country remains.
Nothing is funny about gender identification and sexuality. Yes, the gender/sex mix up is common with people, but I've never seen someone so callous to believe and say the things that have been typed here.
Oh, and to answer the original question...I will be doing an elective ultrasound on 7/19 at 16w2d. I'm doing it in part because I'm not patient, and in part because DH won't be able to be at my A/S anyway. I want us to find out together, not have him find out with a phone call or FaceTime session. That also happens to be DH's birthday weekend so it's my little gift to him.
We are having the tech at our A/S write it down on a piece of paper that I am then taking to a store to give to the cashier. We're going to pick out a girl outfit and a boy outfit, then walk away and have the cashier ring up the right one and gift wrap it. Then we are taking it home and opening it together with our DD. SUPER cheesy but I think its cute and a fun way to find out!
we're doing something similar...taking the envelope to a local bakery and having them make us a cake. the boxes they use are opaque, so we'll take it home and have our own teeny little sex-reveal party. lol

It's a blood test that looks for chromosomal issues. Usually your provided will discuss these kinds of tests at your first appointment and getting them is completely optional. They also need to be performed during a certain time frame - I forget the week range.
If I'm not mistaken, it's done between 11 and 13 weeks.
I actually just talked to my provider today it can be done ANYTIME after 13 weeks. so say you get the A/S and notice abnormalities it will be available then too. Just fyi.

The price has to be right though, if not then I'll wait until my A/S.
I'll talk to my MW on Monday about the early screening test. If she feels I need it and insurance covers it I may find out that way. Just depends.

Here is a chart I saw on the 1st Tri board. I don't know if I like the term "genderqueer." Anyway, here it is.
Also, DH and I will be finding out the sex at 20 weeks or whenever they schedule the a/s.
