My UO is that as much as I can't wait to have kids, I am not looking forward to being pregnant. Everyone I know who has been or is currently pregnant tells me it's one of the most amazing thinsg you will ever experience as a woman. But something about the idea of gaining a ton of weight, being frequently nauseous, having to pee a whole lot more than I already do (I swear I have the smallest bladder known to mankind) and not being able to indulge in things like a glass of red wine with dinner, a cup of coffee in the morning, or my favorite date night idea - sushi night - kind of bums me out. Obviously when I do get pregnant I will be over the moon happy, and I will take extremely good care of myself. I think it's just the details that go into it I'm not super thrilled about.

ETA: I feel like I should point out that I say this with caution, and this is in NO WAY meant to be insensitive, I know we are all out here trying our hardest to conceive. And I want that for all of you as I want it for myself.

  • I can't stand that everyone that has a camera now is a photographer.  It's awesome that you want to learn something new but having a DSLR and some software doesn't make you a pro.  At least twice a week I get a request from one of my friends on Facebook to "like" their new photography page and trying to get me to pay them to take photos.  It sucks because there are a lot of people out there that have studied and spent years learning, that have to jack their prices up because there are so many new "pros" taking away their business and they are having a hard time making ends meet.
YES.  I have friends that are actual photographers (they study photography, go to workshops, do this for a living/side job) verses my FIL who has a nice camera and calls himself a photographer.  I just use my iPhone but it works for me-- I think it's great when someone wants to start a side business but being a photographer is more than just having a nice camera.

@WestCoastGirl05, there is a big difference between you having a nice camera and doing photos for friends vs. setting up a page to charge for your work.  We got a great deal on our wedding/engagement photos because a close family friend offered to do them and offered us that discount when we asked her to do our photography... but I would never think to *ask* for one!

  • @bhjones1980, that is awesome.  Well done :).

I think there are plenty of awesome photographers out there that may not be trained, but they have learned through doing and if they don't charge exorbitant fees would be worth using.  If you're going to pimp out your services when you just have a nice camera and no experience, props, locations, etc, then that's where I have a problem with your 'business.'

Agreed! I think it was the fact that they asked for them for free because I wasn't a pro really pissed me off. Had they offered something, I would have probably turned it down. I do it for fun, and I'm always looking to try new things, it was just their approach that was insulting to people with camera's everywhere. I couldn't do it. But I think it's great that your friends did yours for you at a discount. Sounds like everyone got something out of that day! :D

Dixie cups in the bathroom are the biggest waste. Just use your hands to hold water to rinse your mouth out.
This. I do this after brushing my teeth, but we have to have a full sized cup (not dixie cup) for my H to rinse his mouth out. I don't understand why he can't just use his hands.
  • I don't like vibrators. I've owned a few different ones over the years and I just don't get the appeal.

Maybe you just haven't used the right one yet. I know I can be picky, perhaps you just need something with a few more - options?

I think this is probably unpopular. I just got called for jury duty (for July), and I think it might actually be interesting to serve and wouldn't mind too much if I get picked (this is probably also because I am salaried and would get paid through work regardless - so wouldn't lose money).
I'm in this same boat. I've always enjoyed jury duty! Though I think it also depends on the case you are assigned to.
Of course all I have to go on are court shows and Judge Judy... so I am assuming it will also be much more boring than that. But, still interesting.

For the most part, I think getting professional manicures/pedicures is a waste of money.

Going to disagree with that one.  I've been in a bit of a funk lately so SO brought me to get my nails done because he thought that's what makes girls feel better, (bless his heart). Well it worked because for some reason I felt so much better afterwards and my nails look fabulous!

Even I treat myself to a pedicure on a very rare basis (like once a year) but most of my friends regularly get pedicures and would not dare wear sandals without a recent pedicure.

  • I get pedicures mainly because they help keep my feet in shape for running.  It sucks so bad when you give yourself an ingrown nail and then try to put some miles on it. Also it helps keep my feet from looking like they belong to a Hobbit.
Ditto. I'm not the biggest fan but my feet need it from time to time. Occasionally I'll do it at home with some Epson salt in a bowl and a scrubby brush but that's real fun with two dogs and a toddler around. Easier to pay someone else to do it.

Man, I can't imagine loving the cold that much... I live in Michigan and we got over 100 inches of snow this winter.  I hate being cold and spent about 7 months solid where I was cold pretty much all the time.  This past weekend was gorgeous and we spent hours relaxing on our porch, since I can finally just be warm or comfortable all the time.
The problem is here there is only about 3 weeks every spring and fall that fall under 'warm and comfortable' weather - which is nice. It really just jumps straight to 'hot and humid yucky gross sauna' weather for 5 months - which is not nice.

I've  been called for Jury Duty a few times and was actually in the jury box twice.

The second time I was actually picked to be on the jury.  They picked us, finalized it and let us go to lunch.  It was a criminal case against a 14 o 15 year old boy.  After jury selection, he was sitting in the back of the courtroom crying and talking to his lawyer.  I don't care if defense counsel planned it or what, but I panicked.  I did not want to decide this kid's fate.  He was a KID.

After lunch, the case settled and I never had to do a thing.  I thought juries were cool until that moment.

EDIT: Don't worry - I'll always do my duty!  But, I no longer wish to be called for a jury.

Another fellow Jury Duty magnet! I was called 4 times in about 5 years. It was that time around the end of college/first few years out when I was moving and changing apartments a lot. Served twice, once on a criminal indecent exposure to minors case, once on a really boring two-day civil case. Happy to do my duty, but the frequency was a little much there for a while :P

My husband's never been called. He actually wants to be, too, so you're not alone, @maddscientist!

My UO is that I hate air conditioning. I absolutely hate being dressed for the weather, then walking into a damn igloo where I need pants and a jacket. Plus, a/c always makes me feel clammy, which makes feeling cold even worse. Where I live, thankfully, it's rare to have a home with a/c. DH loves it, but once I get to that level of cold, I just cannot warm up.
I will literally never understand the way people set thermostats.

In the summer, I'm dressed in skirts and t-shirts for 90 degrees outside, but the air conditioning is set to 66 degrees inside.

In the winter, I'm dressed in jeans and heavy sweaters for 20 degrees outside, but the heat is set to 72 degrees inside.

Soo... when it's warmer outside and I'm wearing less clothes it's colder inside than when it's cold outside and I'm dressed in warmer clothes?  WTF?

I do 70 in the winter and 75 in the summer in my house.

And yes @UnicornsandGitter: I'm the say way!  Once I'm cold, there's no warming me up.  I can always cool off, but I can't always warm up.  Seventeen sweaters is no match for winter chills to me.
Totally agree with this. I grew up without air conditioning and liked it (although it is necessary in ATL) I operate a little more extreme though: max 80 in the summer and 65 in the winter. Needless to say H likes it colder in the summer and warmer in the winter. I just can't get down with wearing shorts inside in the winter though - I want to wrap myself in a blanket.

I hate crying in the shower. You still get a the crappy after stuff anyway. Like puffy eyes, tired, red eyes, feeling like you got hit by a truck, etc.

    EtA for clarity

    Come again?

Oops edited to try and clarify and fix my cell phone typo.

  • See, 65 is too cold for me. In the winter, 68 is the max lowest I will go. When DH isn't looking, I bump it up to 70-72. Since we have no a/c, summer is just "heat off".

My unpopular opinion is that I prefer the weather to be cold, rather than hot. I'd rather have it be -15 and have there be a foot of snow on the ground than have it be 95 degrees outside. When it's cold, I can pile on layers and keep warm, but when it's hot there's nothing to do but put on a tank top and slowly sweat to death.

But Dixie cups in the bathroom to hold your urine are not a waste. (Unless you want to do the same cupping of the hands method for dip sticks. ;-))

ETA: Just realized I'm late to the party on this one, other posters already said the same thing!
