I think that book scares a lot of people which is why when Bibles are often passed out for free, they only include the New Testament. :-)

    I wasn't going to respond to this but since the elicit, illicit comment was me I will say this. Please dont act like you've never misspelled something. I'm on mobile and my phone autocorrects everything. I know the difference but i misspelled elicit and my phone autocorrected it to illicit and honestly I didnt notice or I would have corrected it.

    Not sure if you were referring to my comment, but there were a couple of comments about race and segregation in the middle of all of this. I was just bouncing off of that.

    Loolaide, with all due respect, as we're all doing our best to raise our kids as we see fit, I feel compelled to inform you that I don't know a single homeschooling parent who professes to be equipped to teach every subject under the sun. Luckily my hubby and I have degrees in vastly different subject matter, so we have a lot of material covered. Also, most of the folks I know will have their children take higher level math and science courses at the community college if it's something they are uncomfortable teaching.

    To be fair, homeschooling, when done well, can be great. The attitude towards it and towards public school teachers in this thread really seemed one sided though.

    I'll apologize for what I said. I just feel like public schools get bashed by homeschoolers. There are some amazing teachers in the school system. Especially when I think of some friends/family that have done Teach for America.

    There are few people that are equipped to home school but more power to them for doing it. I'm sure it's extremely challenging.

Hell, Loolaide, you'll not find a single soul in any profession who is perfect, and homeschooling parents don't wing this. They put a lot of time and effort into it. Of course mistakes will be made, but mistakes are made in schools, too, so that's hardly a reason to shun someone from the idea.
    Except people are stating they'll homeschool because teachers aren't qualified to teach, specifically because they don't have m eds. So turnabout is fair play.

    Also, @lorlor681‌ has the right of it. It's nbd, because my kids will be your kids' bosses.

    Ok I get it, homeschooling is not your thing, & it's not mine either but I don't get the whole superiority complex you're having with saying your kids will therefore be higher up in society? I like you Loo, but dude, that comes across as really rude.

    @Loolaide‌, just read more of the back & forth between you & Cash, & I think I finally get what you meant, that you're ok with homeschooling if done right, but you didn't like how people who wanted to homeschool were simultaneously bashing the school system & saying they could do it better, am I right?

    Anyway that makes much more sense to me but FTR what you said at first didn't sound like that at all. It sounded like you were saying all homeschooled kids will have lower jobs in society & that publicly taught kids will be their bosses. I'm sure you see why that would sound offensive. Oh & my feelings had nothing to do with Herc, but more about the fact that I was homeschooled (& am now quite successful, mind you ) & that you seemed to be implying (at least initially) that publicly taught kids are more successful, which is just silly.

    @Loolaide‌, I did read your whole argument but honestly thought that you picking out their grammatical errors was a weak argument for making blanket statements like "their kids will have a hard time getting into colleges or finding jobs". Everyone makes mistakes, & it just felt like you were reaching & generalizing to try & make your argument. I DO understand your frustration with the "I can do it better" (than public schools) mindset though. If people want to homeschool OR have their kids attend Public school, fine, but I agree the bashing/hating was unnecessary.
