English has changed dramatically since I was in school. It continues to change and resume protocols are not the same. But google wont tell you those things. This needs to be taught in college.

I recently created a new resume. I googled, downloaded, filled in the blanks. My mother is the vice president of a large company. She is continuously hiring people, and this is exactly what she suggested.
I'm teaching resume writing at the moment. I find it much more advantageous to teach content over format, because some of the pretty resumes are the ones that end up on blooper lists. I liken them to the stereotypical vapid beauty queen.
Google a format. Think about the content. The end.
I get that completely. Content beyond fluff is taught in composition writing as well.

I agree that the way it is taught has changed. I also agree that there isn't enough time to give each its full attention without integrating the skills into other content areas. But students are still taught to write a composition as well as proper grammar, format, sentence structure, etc. It's tested so it's taught .

When I was in school, all pronouns were he. then it became he/she. Now, everything is she.
Comma before "and" was a requirement - apples, oranges, and bananas. Now, it is optional or nonexistent.
Spacing after a period was required to be 2 spaces. Now it is 1 or up to the discretion of the author.
The pronoun matches the noun it is describing.
The Oxford comma has been a debate for decades at least.
The space after a period has to do with the change from typewriters to computers. If you were to type something on a typewriter 2 spaces would still be correct.

Ok, here we go... On the homeschooling issue: I think most people who disagree with it don't really understand it. I was homeschooled k-12 and did very well and had tons of friends (very diverse social backgrounds and ages) and was involved in many different activities. My mom had no degree, but curriculum can be great and I was in a co-op where I was able to be taught by many different people with different skills. Also in PA we have pretty strict. Testing and regulation for homeschoolers. I can't wait to homeschool, and I think its wonderful, BUT it is absolutely not for everyone and you should only do it if you really have a heart for it.
one more thing that i have to say and i know i will be seriously flamed for: I believe strongly that abortion is wrong, and have serious issue with the "personal choice" statement... No, its not your body. Its a human being growing inside your body. That's a life you are choosing to end... I won't apologize for believing that.

FWIW....Day in and day out, I format resumes...It's my job. I see all sorts of things and I know it is because people don't know. Google isn't going to solve all those problems.

I was in school before you and the Oxford comma was always optional.
I'm an editor and I don't think there's really a right or wrong for a lot of the examples you use. It just depends on which style guide you follow. The most important thing is to be consistent. Use the comma or don't use the comma--just follow the same rule every time. That's most important, in my mind.
