  • Hats.... At what point do you stop putting the cute little hats on their heads to keep them warm. My husband insists we put the hat on no matter the temperature. We keep our house at 78* during the day and 70* at night. And we have ceiling fans and run them all day.
DD is 7yrs old- and I've totally forgot everything! Lol

78?? Holy moly. We only put a hat on when he goes outside. Our house is around 65-67.
I'd love the answer to this question too. I'm not sure how warm I should be keeping the house or how warm it should be if LO goes hatless. She's two weeks old at this point.

I think the general consensus that I've seen is that you can keep your house at whatever temp you normally keep it, and then dress baby how you're dressed but with one extra layer. So our room is usually warm enough that I sleep in shorts and a tank with a blanket, so I assume he's fine with a fleece sleeper and a blanket.

I definitely don't think a hat is necessary if your house is almost eighty degrees!

  • For those weaning their LOs from using a nipple shield, how are you trying to wean them?

I want to wean DS from using one all the time but have no clue how to go about doing that.

We're trying to wean. The way I'm doing it is to try and get her to latch without it every time she eats. If he gets too frustrated I put the shield on. Then I'll try and remove it partway through and see how that goes. We're to the point where she will nurse without it about half the time. We have less success in the middle of the night and the most success in the morning.

Colton is 8 days old and we don't really do hats, he hates them. We keep our house at about 78* and Florida weather is mostly in the low to mid 80's already.

Does anyone else use the Tommee Tippee bottles and have an issue with them leaking? I've tried 2 out of the 3 pack so far and they are both doing it as she is drinking.

We use tommee tipped and ours didn't come with the purple thing. Are the actual bottles leaking or does it seem to be running out the side of LO's mouth?

Our actual bottles didn't leak but we definitely have to make sure LO has a good latch on the nipple. Almost like he did when we were bf. He has to have some of the bigger part in his mouth or it'll run right out the side. DH absolutely hates these bottles because they do take some work and some finess.

are you sure the top is screwed on? My husband was complaining our tommee tippee bottles leaked too, but he'd just cross threaded the top and it wasn't on properly. :)

  • When do newborn stop startling themselves awake??
  • Is it common for LO to have a low temp while going through a growth spurt?
  • So I really hate putting on onesies. It just seems like such torture for him- either pulling over his head or over his feet, especially stuffing his arms into them. I mainly like one piece outfits that zip or button all the way up. But based on how many onesies I have, everyone else seems to like them a ton, so am I just doing it wrong? Do they get easier to put on?

  • @lalaith50‌ I think you just get used to it. I've been stretching the head hole to make it easier to get over her head.

  • I have a call into my pedi, but in the meantime: sometimes after Baby breast feeds, he sounds a little...phlegmy...for a few minutes after. Normal? Or should I be suctioning?

My kid lives in onesies! Like someone else said, they are stretchy. One thing no one tells you is that it doesn't have to pull down over their head. You can actually slide it on by putting their feet in first and pulling it up! Give that a try, that way you don't have to deal with their wobbly head.

  • And we use TT bottles and have never had a problem with leaking (sometimes it will dribble out the side of her mouth, but that's just baby getting too much). I love those bottles, not sure what to tell you. (Ours doesn't have the purple piece either). Maybe try a different brand?

  • @Laura8388 - When I was working in an infant classroom, I swaddled babies up until they were about 4-5 months old, depending on the baby.  I would leave their arms out whenever they were able to self-soothe.  Then when they started turning over in their sleep, I stopped swaddling because it got in their way.

Mine does it to- I don't suction because about 30 min after eating she doesn't sound congested anymore
  • So we have talked a lot about to few poops in a day but what about to many?? Is there such a thing?? My dd has had over ten poops today I have literally lost count. All have been the same color and consitensy the mustardy yellow/orange she is ebf. All have been significant in size no little wet farts. Is there an amount that is to many??
Also she now has a little diaper rash going from all the pooping and wiping today :( she is not a happy camper

I don't think there is an upper end. But put a barrier cream and blot don't wipe to prevent rash :(

This. My LO was pooping like this and also got some diaper rash. I tried the blot don't wipe along with desitin thing and it really helped. I also wiped her down with a wet warm wash cloth and then patted her dry before applying the desitin so there wasn't any residue from the wipes. Her diaper rash cleared up totally in 2 days. And she was much happier when I was blotting rather than wiping. She also seemed to like the warm wash cloth which made changes easier.

I do cloth wipes and use just water and baby soap mixture/ no rashes yet and Sloan poops at least 12 times a day
  • It is probably just part of LOs spittiness (yes I've talked about it in like four different threads, but does anyone's LO sleep/sound/breathe great when upright and then get junky/chew-the-cud-like while laying flat? It keeps me awake but I don't want to drown it out with the fan or white noise because in scared I'll miss her choke but I cannot possibly hold her upright 24/7 and I'm too nervous to try to have her sleep in bouncer etc if I'm asleep.

My LO has been very congested, but usually only at night when she's flat.  I've read it's normal, but plan to mention it to the doc at our appt today.  She was slightly better last night as well, so it might be fine.

We cloth wipe and use only water too. We had some disposable wipes and Colton got a rash almost instantly. When we switched the rash went away.
  • Just wondering if anyone else has had anything similar happen. Lo is ebf. For the second time in the last month, she projectile spit up/threw up. When she's done it, it's like the flood gates opened. she just keeps going until I assume her stomach is empty. She doesn't cry when it happens, but then afterwards is very lethargic. Of course it worries me as a FTM. We have a pedi appt Friday and I plan to bring it up but figured id get some guidance from you ladies now :)

My LO is also EBF and is 2.5 weeks old. She has only projectile vomited/spit up twice too. We had our pedi appt today- and the doc was not concerned! She said that's normal. Some spit up all the time, some don't, and some do it sometimes.
I chalked it up to my food that I had that day... And/or her drinking too fast!

Also- DD poop has just now started to stink. I sure do miss the days where I couldn't smell it. Boo!
I thought it was something I ate on Sunday- but it's still smelling so I guess not!
  • @LaurenAsh23‌ - Eva does this sometimes and then 20 minutes later she wants to eat again.

Ok, so Eva is behaving a BAD day. She is crying non-stop and her tummy is so distended. She went from 3-4 poopy diapers a day to going 2 or more days without a BM. We are on day 3 with no poop making an entrance. She has been a pain feeding today as in she never seemed full. Now from 6pm she has pretty much not stopped crying. I think she is just uncomfortable, I gave her gripe water and she naps for 20 mins at a time but then wakes up, cries and signals she is hungry. I am reluctant to feed her because I am sure there is no room. Any experience ladies, do I feed her a 2oz bottle of formula for get her to sleep for 3 hours?

  • Thanks @laura8388. We are trying to bf but she falls asleep after 10 minutes then wakes up after 30, but if we formula feed she tends to sleep for more than 2 hours. Usually she only has 2 oz before she refuses to take more, she is still less than 6lbs. I think it is more gas lower down than burps. I'll try formula when she wakes up again (I just got her down) and hope it is ok, I swear she just need a big fart and dump and it will all be ok.

  • @bjd316‌ I have read that you should discard formula they've already began drinking. I could be wrong, but it may be due to bacteria growth? I'll keep it up to an hour in case he still wants it, but then I toss it.
  • When do babies start drooling? I've noticed Levi started drooling a LOT yesterday but thought they didn't start that until a couple months old (he's 1 month 1 day)
  • Ok FTM question here... Does anyone let lo sleep in the swing at night? I feel like that's the only way he sleeps for more than an hour. I swaddle him and buckle over that but if it's bad someone let me know of some other options pretty please.

I've done it on nights Sloan is really fussy. It's that or sometimes she sleeps on me while I'm on the couch( tucked in the corner nice and safe). Most nights Sloan is in her crib though. I say always start first nighttime sleep in the crib and then move during the night if need be. That way they get use to going to bed in the crib

I let Colton sleep anywhere that he will actually sleep! He did a nice 3 hour stretch in his gym mat thing today and I napped on the couch. I say let them sleep wherever they are comfy!

This is where our lo one sleeps. We swaddle her and put her in unbuckled. She last till early morning with a feed or two inbetween. Then she snuggles in bed on my chest in the morning

When I worked in daycare we followed this rule as well. One hour on the counter and then it was thrown away.

Does this apply if it's been refrigerated between feedings or just if it's been left out? I've been given conflicting advice on this, and I'm not sure what the actual rule is.
  • I am sure someone has asked this here but I don't want to go through the 15 pages on my phone...so if I pump and then want to feed her a bottle how do I know how much to give her?? She will just keep eating it seems until the point of puking. She is ebf and is about four weeks.

From what I've heard, if it's been started, it should be tossed after an hour regardless of whether you refrigerate or not. I wish I could remember where I read that, one of my baby books. But you can keep your formula that hasn't been touched up to 24hrs in fridge. I'm not sure why that would be the case, other than bacteria growth.

Stop after every ounce and burp, and wait for her to cue for more. At four weeks we were doing about 3.5 oz at a time, but it depends more on their weigh than age.

Yep this! Sloan is four weeks but small and eats only 2-2.5 ounces at a time
  • Emma's acne is out of control. I noticed it looks like its moving onto her neck a little bit. It's been there about a week. Any suggestions? Has anyone had success with breast milk as a "treatment"?
