Does anyone else have issues burping their LO? My DS is a terrible burper. I try to burp him multiple times during and after a feeding but he just won't do it. I've tried several positions: over my shoulder, across my lap on his belly and sitting him upright and holding his chin. I've tried bouncing him beforehand to try and get things going but it doesn't help. I can seriously sit there for 20 minutes patting and rubbing his back and the little stinker just won't burp. I hate it for him because he ends up with painful gas and I feel like I must be doing something wrong. Any advice or tips?
All three of my boys burped best when held on my chest and patted on the butt. They would never burp any other way.
Tell me about y'all's experience with thrush. I don't have it, haven't bf in 2 weeks, but Levi does. Dr prescribed gentle meds over the phone which he started yesterday. I'm sterilizing bottles and pacis like crazy, but I can't keep this hands out of his mouth (even when he's not hungry) and idk how often to switch out his paci. I could get super obsessed. Any tips?
On average, how long does/can a growth spurt last?
Day... Week.. Month.. Years
Ha! Can it really vary that much? My LO has been eating nonstop and refusing to sleep for like two weeks now! I'm losing my mind over here. Not sure if this is just a really long growth spurt or if there's something wrong
Holy stress. I had the most ridiculously easy birth ever, but I'm totally making up for it by worrying about EVERYTHING. Tell me it's not weird that Baby slept WAY more today than usual. Sigh.

James 3 week growthspurt lasted a week. Ethan 3 days. How old is you lo again? Do you have sufficient wet diapers?
He just turned four weeks on Tuesday. Plenty of wet diapers. I can tell he's quite gassy, but I'm not sure if that's enough to keep him from sleeping. He literally will take like three 15-30 minute naps during the day and maybe have one 2 hour nap at night, and then wake up every hour until 6am. That just doesn't seem healthy to me! But what do I know?
I'm currently EBF, but since LO is sleeping poorly and eating all day like a maniac, I'm considering maybe supplementing formula. It'll free me up so I'm not having to give him the boob all the time, and maybe it'll help with his sleep. Is it true that babies sleep better on formula? Any of you supplement after EBF and notice a difference?
I was told by a nurse that they don't recommend it as it can be bad for baby to breathe in AND it can make floors slippery. I thought that was weird for her to tell me?
Good to know. Glad I asked. Guess I'll just continue to put it in my sneakers.
@klp830 My LO who is now just over four weeks old has gone through a couple poopless 24-hour periods. He usually ended up shitting out the mother load of all poops after like a day and a half. So be prepared with lots of wipes!

Oh my! I'm ready for a tidal wave of poop!!! Thanks
Am I supposed to feel let down with eping? Cause I don't, however I pump 3oz from each side in about 15 minutes every 3 hours except I don't pump over night. Idk what I am doing over here lol LC couldn't see me until Tuesday to answer all of my questions and try googling a breastfeeding poop color chart, the results are not what I was looking for lol
How often do you throw things such as socks, pants...in the laundry? LO usually spits up on her onesie and since it's in contact with her diaper, I wash those after each wear, but pants, socks, jackets...I don't. Just wondering what everyone else does.
I wash when something gets dirty.. Not dirty? Not washing it!
Yep. If something gets spit up/peed/pooped on that's when it gets washed. Or if I feel like he's been sweating in something.
Then again he pretty much lives in sleepers so we don't really change his clothes unless they get something on them. Which is usually between 24 seconds and 24 hours after they get put on.

I think I am a horrible mom cause I honestly don't change her clothes but once a day unless they get peed or pooped on. If she spits up on her clothes I wipe it down and call it good. It will dry and it's not like we are goin anywhere.
I feel like all LO does is sleep. She is one week old today and is maybe up for 2 to 3 hours out of the day is this normal?
Levi did this for about 2 weeks, he's just now getting to where he stays awake for slightly longer stretches. I read they can sleep as much as 21 hours a day at that age.
Does anyone give their LO cold formula from the fridge? We've been doing it with no issue since the first week. My mom just started giving me grief about it because aunt who is a nurse said it was too hard on his stomach to eat it cold. Now every time he fusses she swears it's the cold formula.

I've been doing this from the beginning too. I warmed the very first bottle I gave him after we were home but that's the only time I did it. Every one he's had since had either been room temperature (I buy the ones already mixed for when we're out and about) or cold right from the fridge. He doesn't mind them being cold at all and it's a lot easier on me to make them up in the morning and just grab one when he's ready to eat. FWIW both my mom and my MIL have given me the same speech you got about the cold formula but I think it's just an old way of thinking.
@legallyginger ds1 would take formula cold no problem but ds3 will only take warmed pumped milk. I tried cold and he just screamed at me! Ds2 was a picky baby and wouldn't even take a bottle.
@NorthernLghts my 8 week old still unlatches even when he's still hungry. Sorry. I'd keep feeding. She might be comfort nursing too. Either way it's good for building your supply. Also there's a growth spurt around 10 days. If you feel like you have to do formula, don't feel bad about it!
@Missanniewc82 Great point about the transition to reg milk! I'm going to start giving LO cold formula.. That'll make my life a million times easier! Hopefully he will take it.
My 2 week old recently starting pushing saliva out of his mouth. Its just a little and it comes out like spit bubbles sometimes. Tonight it started sounding like he was gargling in his sleep. Anyone know if a baby this young should be having that much extra saliva? Anyone with experience?
Does anyone know if it's ok to use more than 1 brand of formula? We are currently using Similac but I got a sample of Enfamil and I was going to see if she did better with that but I don't want to mess her stomach up by switching around. I'm not sure if it's all the same or what, sorry for the dumb FTM question.
I asked my pedi about this and she recommended that I don't because she was so young yet. I have switched within the brand with no problems, but not between brands.

We're having a hell of a time even switching within the brand. I tried to go from Enfamil newborn to gentlease and he flipped his lid. He didn't even want it mixed half and half, we had to start at a quarter and work our way from there.
Is anyone else really nervous about giving LO a tub bath? Our DD had some issues with her cord stump and we had to get it caulderized. They told us to wait til it's healed more completely to do a tub bath, so we've just been doing sponge baths, which she screams through.
What is your routine with tub baths? Any pointers? I just want her to enjoy them. Baths are great!

I get in with her and hold her while my husband baths her and then takes her to dry while I dry
@theluckiest9 Luckily LO loves bath time. I wouldn't worry too much until you try it. I just make sure I have everything ready for during and after bath. A couple little things I do: keep the water running for some white noise, put a wash cloth on her belly and keep it warm, warm a towel in the dryer for afterwards.
Our LO hates bath time . We are going to try again tonight. I think because she doesn't have too much fat she gets cold very quickly. Will try warmer water and also keep the water running for white noise, she likes running water sound (and my hair dryer and the tumble dryer).

I let someone take a shower and get the bathroom all hot than bath LO in his tub in the warm bathroom. It keeps him warm and cuts down on the screaming!
How do you know if your LO should be on soy formula? I've tried sensitive formula and newborn formula and now am on the AR since she was spitting up. This one has cut down the fussiness quite a bit compared to the others, but you can tell she's still uncomfortable when trying to poop. I've diluted the bottles with extra water to try and help. I hate seeing her struggle and get upset when her tummy hurts
So those of you who have had LOs with poop free days, do you still keep the same feeding schedule? Eva has gone from 3-4 poops a day to 1 poop every 2-3 days and her stomach is HUGE!!!! Yesterday she was fussy and cried a lot, today she is just sleeping lots and is really not eating at all. I keep trying to wake her to feed and she gets maybe 5 mins on the boob and then refuses the bottle, then sleeps again. She looks like she is straining a lot but nothing comes out. She has plenty of wet diapers so I am not concerned about her getting enough to eat, but I don't want to make her more uncomfortable. She is BF and formula fed. Anyone experiencing anything similar? What do you do? Let LO sleep or force them to eat?
Hats.... At what point do you stop putting the cute little hats on their heads to keep them warm. My husband insists we put the hat on no matter the temperature. We keep our house at 78* during the day and 70* at night. And we have ceiling fans and run them all day. DD is 7yrs old- and I've totally forgot everything! Lol

Thanks for the input ladies! I will be trying all of your suggestions!!

He hasn't pooped in 24 hrs. Lots of wet diapers and he wants to eat like crazy, and is passing gas-but still no poop.
We have tried Gerber apple juice and gripe water, per his pedi, but still nothing. Exercising his legs helps get out more gas but that's it.
Throughout this 24 hr poopless period, he wants to be held constantly and will only sleep in my arms.
Is this normal? Part of 3 wk growth spurt? What have others of youdoe to help lo have a bm??
@addisonsmom22 Nope! Go ahead, but don't be surprised if she doesn't like it. Many babies don't!
