Pretty sure my milk has already come in, but I am not engorged at all. Will this be the most I will make, or will my supply continue to grow? I was def engorged at first with my other two once it came in...
Can you combine room temp and cold formula? I know you can't with breast milk. How long is it good for once you heat it up? Can you refridge it after you heat it up?
is this true for breast milk? I didn't know that and I am topping up my milk supply in the fridge each time I pump!
@Pankers I do the same thing, so this had me wondering.
Yeah it's true I believe. What you should do is wait until both are cold then mix. So I have two formula bottles in the refrigerator. One I just pumped ( so room temp) and a cold one.y next pump I pour the two together and take away the empty and theny freshly pumped milk goes in until it's cold and can be combined.
Yep, breast milk must be the same temp before mixing.
But formula? Why are you keeping warmed formula? Isn't it supposed to be used as soon as you mix it or thrown away? Or are you talking about ore mixed liquid stuff?
The powder you can mix up and refrigerate and it keeps for 24 hours.
Am I doing this diapering thing wrong? I try to always point his penis down, but sometimes he's really squirmy! He was born 8lbs8oz, and the hospital put him in size 1, but when I got home I tried newborn, both huggies and pampers, and there would be some sort of leakage about 3x a day, so we went back to size1. Didn't seem to be much difference in leakage, so now he's back to newborn, and I'm just trying to make sure they're on pretty tight. Still leaks about 2x a day. Is that normal or am I doing it wrong? I change him the expected 8-12x a day.
We really found the brand of diaper mattered as much as size. Odly enough we prefer the target house brand to even pampers.

This. We had issues with leakage with huggies and luvs but never pampers. All the same size. We never tried store brand after that since it took us a few tries to find one that worked we just stuck to it.
so..what is the typical/expected number of leaks a day or week, just so I have a reference point?
Any STMs have success with long term combination feeding? I can't mentally handle EBF, our little guy likes to take his sweet time nursing and feeling chained to the spot where I nurse is starting to drive me insane. I'm worried about killing my supply. He doesn't seem to have an issue with confusion so far, he's had at least a bottle a day since birth.
Any tips or suggestions? What kind of nursing/pumping/formula schedule did you keep?
Trying to gets days and nights straightened out...I've even waking LO about every 3 hours for feeds during the days and letting her go as long as she wants at night. Is this an ok way to go? I hate waking her during the day, but also don't enjoy being up all night with her haha. Any other tips? Other things we do to encourage nighttime sleep is swaddling, noise machine, keep it light/loud during the day....
When you've just changed a diaper and almost immediately hear more poo, how long do you wait before changing again? (Immediate? Wait a few minutes and see if there's more poo? Or longer to save a diaper?)
How long can you let lo sleep at night without feeding? (we're doing breast milk if it matters)
If they're gaining weight well I don't wake them up after their 2 week check up (for R and A that was really about 5 weeks after birth but two weeks after discharge). They will go about 4 hours between feeds at night right now.
We took pampers home from the hospital and now we're working our way through a box of luvs. He peed out the side of the luvs twice while I was nursing this week, but otherwise no issue. I prefer pampers but luvs are a lot cheaper.
LO leaks through everything except Luvs. I really think it's all down to your baby's body shape. Levi is super long and skinny but Luvs seems to stay fitted in all the right places
I have been reading & hearing conflicting information so I was just wondering, when do you plan on starting the tummy time? Or have you already?
We've already started (LO is 2.5 weeks old). I do it like 5 minutes here and there throughout the day. I also count it tummy time when LO is chest on my chest and she can lift her head up.
What does your sleep/feed/awake schedule look like? Some days lo likes to be awake and look around after eating. today, she's been falling asleep immediately after feedings and waking up in time to eat again.
Well our schedule was 3-3.5 hours in the day and 4-4.5 at night. But last night Eva decided that 2 hours was more appropriate. Usually she sleeps straight after feeding, but I assume it was because she was a bit premature and is on catch up.

. I had the same exact question. He'll stay awake for 1.5 or 2 hrs sometimes and then others he'll go right to sleep. I assume this is normal for an infant?
I have a few questions. 1. LO keeps chocking at every feeding (we use the avent bottles) I don't know if it's because he's eating to fast or soneyhing else. 2. We notice that he falls asleep right after we feed him breast milk (we had a routine of switching breast milk and formula because I wasn't producing enough milk) but when we give him formula he always wants more right after. Like if it wasn't enough (he drinks the typical 120ml that's on the instructions) any advice on this? 3. LO is breathing very loud. Sometimes it scares us and I can't fall asleep. Even snoring. Is this common for newborn? I was reading online and everything leads me to SID (suddden infant death) I know I shouldn't associate them together but it scares me so much.

Eva chokes a bit too, I think it is because she eats to fast. Check the flow of the teet, I think the Avent bottles the number 2 is the slow flow nipple. We moved to the tommee tippee closer to nature bottles at the suggestion of our LC but she still gulps it down. She has also started to do it on my breast too for the first few minutes.
We have the same thing. Eva is always more sleepy after breast milk from the breast. We have been supplementing her with formula but she tends to over eat with formula so we have to watch her.
@saraboespflug, our diapers were rubbing on Eva's umbilical cord and it was bleeding onto her diapers, then it just fell off totally the next day in her diaper! I wondered what the hell it was! . Bit of bleeding the next day but we are now blood and crud free. It fell off on day 11. And we never cleaned it at all... @-)
My question Is about tongue ties: has anyone else had to deal with this with your LO?
In the hospital the lactation consultant said Carter has a slight tongue tie and that is what is causing problems latching on to nurse. A ENT came for a consult but said he didn't see anything that needed done.
LO is still not latching on and will be 2 weeks tomorrow. He drinks formula and pumped breast milk from bottles and seems to be having trouble using his tongue to swallow.
@klp830, DS1 had a tongue-tie that we had clipped and I just found out this week that one of the twins is tongue-tied as well. The LC I saw talked about how a lot of doctors, even ENT's, still don't fully believe in tongue-ties or that they are an issue, especially if it is a minor one. I would ask the LC if they can recommend a doctor to work with to resolve the problem. I think a second opinion would be a good idea.

Thank you! I am going to call tomorrow to see who they recommend and who takes our insurance. After your Ds1 had it clipped, did the latching and feeding get a lot better.?
@lalaith50 - I know the diaper question was a few pages ago, but wanted to share that we sometimes push up the elastic on the diapers around LO's thighs. This helps with leaks. I used to do that when I worked in a daycare and it worked with multiple children who used different brands of diapers. We have had good luck with pampers and cloth diapers.

Yes! We were nursing within minutes of the clip. It was really fast and easy. It took a couple of days for him to adjust to the new movement but we then went on to nurse for over a year.
Eva has a tongue tie too, but the LC and 2 doctors have said it is too minor to worry about and if LO is starting to latch and I am not too sore, we don't need to do anything. Eva struggles latching on one side only so we are using a nipple shield.
How do you ladies that use a shield get them to stay on/stick? I have a wiggly worm that flails her arms around a ridiculous amount during feeding and then the edges come up and last feed it came off twice. It is frustrating at 3am and makes me want to switch to the other breast but I need to even them out.
Thanks @saraboespflug, I was turning it inside out but not as much as that. Will try that next time, the water didn't seem to work to keep the outer flange part staying on. I have 2 sizes so I might try the bigger one again too.

She said we can start it now once a day. But any time laying belly to chest counts.
