Hmm.. My baby is now exclusively formula fed and he only has 2 bms per day. If calorie intake=BM I'm confused... Def not getting 4 or 5, and that's with formula so I know he's getting calories.
We didn't see a bm yesterday called about it and they weren't concerned. We ebf. Then today as I am wiping diaper cream on the flood gates open up thank god I had already put the new diaper underneath!! I just had to sit there and I held her legs up as it poured out haha gross!
Another question, and yes I know it's stupid but... when doing middle of the night diaper changes do you just turn the normal light on? Do you use just a night light? A miners hat with the light in the front? Just kidding on the last one, but I was wondering since I thought putting the normal room lights on would wake baby up even more, or maybe not? I understand I still need to see what I'm doing but wasn't sure what will work best. :-/
This is what we use. It's a moving projector that we hope will keep baby's attention when he is a bit older, but we still use it as our night light now.
We have the same one. That's a good idea to use it as a night light.

We have that for DS1 and have used it every day for the past two-plus years. We bought another one for the twins because there is no way we can take it from him. Great for traveling too!
Will I be sent to mommy jail if I don't wake my baby up to feed? I've always heard never wake a sleeping baby, and babies are pretty good at letting you know their needs. So if they need to eat, they'll wake up, right? Or if they need to sleep, they'll sleep?
Is this normal: dd is ebf. She spits up on occasion, but nothing to write home about. Tonight she nursed one side around 630 and the other around 830. She had the hiccups and dh took her to change her diaper about 930. When he got back in the room she projectile spit up and now I think she's acting lethargic. She almost never falls asleep without nursing and she just laid here with me for a while and then fell asleep. I hate reading into things, but also worried since this is the first time this has happened.
So here's a question that's been driving me crazy... Jack is back up to birth weight and has the all clear to sleep as long as he wants. I have no idea when to feed him now. He's a super noisy/fidgety sleeper. He will grunt, smack his lips, chew his hands, and basically make hunger cues all night after putting him down.
The other day we got almost six hours out of him, but the last hour or so he would grunt/fuss for a few seconds and then go back to sleep. He's never actually woken himself up (like eyes open) to feed.
Should I let him go until he's actually awake? If not, at what point during his noise fest do I get him up? He's about 90% breastfed.
@legallyginger are you BF'ing? If so-- never hurts to offer to nurse. I've been tracking my nursing on an app on my phone. And I'm just starting to notice a pattern and thus know when I can pump/not feed

We have had a few spit ups but also 3 or 4 major sick episodes. Last night was the latest. We just put her to bed, then she woke up 1 hour later crying and we nursed for 10 mins and she slept. Fed fine the next few feeds. Before we had a sick episode and she missed 2 feeds, but then got back in track, we'll be asking the doctor on Tuesday to check but there seems to be no issues that I can see so far.
This is more of a pumping question, but I'll ask it here anyway. Momma's who dual pump: do the shields stay on your breasts once they've 'suctioned' or do you need to hold them on the whole time? One of mine falls the other stays on. I'm not sure which is how it's supposed to be?
I took an old sports bra and cut small holes at the nipple area and puty shields through that- bam hands free bra for way less then they charge for ones that don't work near as well. Just have to keep washing it at least daily to keep it snug otherwise milk will leak out the bottom of the shields

I bought a pump ease hands free bra last time and it worked great. You can also google for a rubber band trick to keep the flanges suctioned to your breasts.
Question 1: when in the routine are you bathing your aby? Our Eva gets worked up really quickly before a feed so that is out if the question, then after we have to keep her upright to stop her puking, then she falls asleep, so with the BF, bottle/formula, pump routine, this only leaves 2 hours to sleep before we have to wake her for ending again (preemie).
Question 2: belly button stump fell off last night, her belly button is still a little gooey (but not smelly), when can we bath her properly?
I haven't bathed yet...just some wipe downs but no soap. I was told it was fine either way to wait or not. She still smells amazing even though she has spit up on herself quite a bit.

Ahhhh yes question one- I had that debacle. What I do now is wait until a feed time ( she gets fussy fast for food too) give half the feed. Then bath/lotion/ bedtime clothes, and then finish feed ( sometimes takes a little more then a regular feed) and then bed. Worked really well last night our new bedtime routine. Daddy also readys a book to her before going down
Thank you all for your night time changing advice. We do have the turtle, so once he's here I'll try that out. He will be making his debut on Wednesday if nothing happens earlier.
Is it normal for newborns to fall asleep after every feeding? We are coming off jaundice where sleeping too much was an issue for eating. She's eating steadily now and staying alert during her eating but she passes out on the breast after about 15-20 mins.
Edit: were ebf
Sloan usually does, except like maybe for one feed.
My 2.5 week old is refusing to sleep. It's freaking me out. Just a couple days ago, he was sleeping most of the day. Now, he's taken only one 2-hour nap today and that's it. He was acting like this last night too. And even when he finally does fall asleep, he wakes up like 20 minutes later. Am I doing something wrong? Not sure if it makes a difference, but I'm EBF. And over the past couple days, he has been VERY hungry. I can't get him off the boob! Anyone else dealing with this or know if this is normal?? I'm on the verge of a major meltdown over here

Mine did this a few days ago. He was almost three weeks old and simply refused to sleep. At one point he was awake for about six hours straight. I couldn't believe it. He was super fussy and ate way more than usual. When he finally fell asleep he slept for close to four hours (he never sleeps that long). It only happened that one day though. He got right back on track the next day and had been in his "normal" routine ever since.

Mine JUST went through this. It's a growth spurt. It should only last a few days. DDs lasted about 4-5 days. She was an angel today compared to the past week. It will end.
We went through this a week ago!
Going through it now. We've had three bottles within the last three/four hours. She better sleep good tonight!
Right now we have our baby girl sleeping in our room in the pack n play. For those of you who also have their LOs in the same room, when do you plan on transitioning into the nursery? I am just wondering when might be a better time to do this.
If it was up to my child he'd be in it now at a week old lol. He loves his crib. But mom can't do it unless I camped out on the floor, and I'm to sore for that. I need to start putting him in it at nap time so my anxiety will go down. But we've had company all day every day and it doesn't seem possible
Those of you who have baby sleeping in the pack and play- do you use sheets/a mattress cover. I bought both and they seem to fit very snuggly but the pack n play has about five bazillion warnings not to use anything not officially made for it by graco because of suffocation risk. I feel like it should be fine since everything fits so well and the warnings are just them legally covering themselves... But then I also get paranoid...

We have a sheet in the pack n play. I'm pretty sure graco manufactured them. They fit well so I'm not worried.

Ok can a baby have cold milk that's been in the refrigerator ? What we had had been at room temp. Now it's prepped and put in the refrigerator . I don't think she cares but want to make sure it's safe if it's not warmed to room temp

Yes! We've always given our kids milk either cold or at room temp. They've never had a problem. If your LO will drink it that way I say go for it.
Translation = making my DD's eye all yellow and pussy! Doctor looked at it and they're not concerned (neither were the public health nurses) but I just feel so bad! We're massaging the area with a warm compress and clearing the goo as often as we can (at least with every diaper change) but my question is...
Anyone else dealing/felt with this? How long did it last with your LO's?
It has come and gone twice with my LO. Lasted two or three days each time.

Sound weird, but a couple drops of breast milk in the affected eye can really help clear it up!!

Mine just had this. Lasted two days. His eye looks good as new now.
We are going through this now. My sister told me about the breast milk but it must have already been on it's way to infection because the breast milk just made it worse. His eye has been stuck together now with green puss and we are on our second type of antibiotics because he had a reaction to the first. The first night dealing with it I had a meltdown. The good news is if it's not bright yellow or green it's not infected. Just keep an eye on it if anything changes.
Blocked tear ducts!!

We had it in both eyes last week. We just cleaned with warm water and massaged the corners of her eyes. Cleared up in a couple of days.
Can you combine room temp and cold formula? I know you can't with breast milk. How long is it good for once you heat it up? Can you refridge it after you heat it up?

is this true for breast milk? I didn't know that and I am topping up my milk supply in the fridge each time I pump!

I do count my blessings, dd was total opposite

I have iBaby app. It looks really good and was recommended to me but I haven't used it. We're just paper and pencil.
