Ok, so I'm watching 16 and pregnant (I know, I know...) and they are doing cervical checks while she is in labor and she is literally screaming in pain everytime they do one. Why is she screaming?! Are they really that painful?! It's freaking me out...

I've never found them to be painful, even in labor.

@justxlaugh‌ sounds like tv drama. I didn't feel the check I had before we got into the birth tub. But I was at home in a safe loving environment. I didn't feel the 2 I had at the hospital either. I did however feel the stupid ass nurse put the scalp electrode in my cervix by mistake. That hurt, it also lead to a cervical lip that never went down.

How exactly is one supposed to properly wear their seatbelt at this point? I know everything says below the belly but my belly is meeting my thighs when I sit so the belt it's just all loosey goosey in a weird belly-thigh canyon and won't sit flat. I don't feel properly restrained and it's making me nuts.

I try to stretch when I get in and squish the belt onto my lap under the belly- in that fold. It feels suuuuper attractive, but does seem like I'm actually going to be held in place if something doesn't go right.

The checks weren't so bad but having to endure a contraction flat on your back is misery.

I think it depends on your body shape. I always have had wider hips and mine have stayed the same. I have friends who are tiny (under size 6) and all said their hips spread and never went back. If its hasn't happened yet, it may not happen for you.

Does the baby get quieter (i.e. less movement) when approaching delivery? Like maybe the few days prior?

Okay so perineal massage?? anyone do it in the past or doing it currently?

My hub read about it in his Birthing Partner book and was like, "umm I don't feel comfortable stretching out your vag." haha and it sounds awful. I heard it doesn't necessarily help either way.

thoughts?? sorry if it was posted...don't remember seeing it!

My OB did it while I was pushing- I can see it helping at that point, but prior to delivery... Eh, not so sure. And it was not comfortable.

That's funny because my husband is also rereading The Birth Partner and last night wakes me up when he gets into bed to say, "we should really start your perineal massages. Have you bought EPO yet?"

We tried it a few times last time but I pretty much hated it and he didn't mind when I said no more. I was surprised e brought it up! I guess I'll give it a try again- but it's not at all comfortable.

I remember feeling baby during labor but he wasn't super active.

Yeah it feels pretty terrible too- probably because normally when DH is down there he's not "hooking" and stretching my perineum. It's a bit of a mind warp

The baby will probably dig the sound - most like white noise and vacuums. I'd think a hair dryer would fall in that category.

I found out they do supply one! It was surprising but I am happy that it is something I can use and not feel stupid for

Can you use a used car seat base? With DS I bought a used car seat before I knew it was faupax baby 101. I bought a new one for this LO, but would like to use the base from the other one in our second car. Is it just the car seat itself you're not supposed to use, or the base as well? I know that you don't need a second one and can just buckle the car seat in, but the snap and go base is much easier.

Yep, every piece of the car seat should be new (or 100% guaranteed accident free by a trusted friend or family member), including the base.

I think I've decided against getting a crib mobile & have decided to get somethig that will project stuff to look at on the ceiling for baby boy to look at. Does anyone have any particular item recommendations for one of these? There are a lot of options out there...

Membranes swept. Anyone see any baby action after the procedure? After how long?

I had mine swept and it started some contractions for me the night before I was induced. I was over due and still had to have cervidil and pit so idk if that helps at all.

Membranes swept around Sunday at 11am- contractions started that evening but could sleep through them until about 5am Monday. Baby was here Tuesday around 7am.

I had my GBS test today, and they only tested vaginally. I thought it was supposed to be front and back based on what others have experienced?

I've heard that some places do it one way and some the other. I've also heard that just vaginally is preferred since you aren't butt-pregnant (we hope) and so what does it matter if you have GBS back there?

That definitely makes sense!

I had like 30 minutes of period like cramps with different waves of intensity around 3 this morning. They have stopped now but it got me wondering.... When you say contractions are "timeable", is there literally a point where you are pain free in between or is it more consistent pain with waves of intensity that you time? Or could it be either depending on the person? I'm going to ask at my next appt but some experienced mamas answers would be great right now. Thanks!!

I'm sure it may be different for everyone but I know that between contractions (even during transition) I could actually fall asleep (first labor) or was carrying on a conversation (second labor) between contractions. The pain would subside between each one.

^^^ this for me too. I was perfectly fine and could probably jog down the halls between contractions this time even at 8+ cm dilated. Even during the worst of transition in between contractions I was talking and able to rest a bit.

I feel like I'm the only person who was sent home with a swab and instructed how to do it and bring it back at my next appointment... But they did tell me to do both!

Thanks for the descriptions everyone. This makes sense to me. My 36 week appt is Tuesday so I will definitely mention it. They started after my scared of storms dachshund jumped on my side when I was asleep. Thanks ladies!!

My LO had hiccups during an US and the movement was definitely coming from her chest/tummy. Hiccups help strengthen their little muscles to practice for breathing IRL :-)

DS never dropped before I was induced but I had a successful delivery.

I read that oxytocin causes the uterus to contract, and that's released during sex. But my stupid question is: wouldn't that mean I'd have to orgasm in order for that hormone to be released? And if I don't hit the big O, does that mean it didn't in any way help to induce labor or help prep for labor?
