  • @internationalkate, ultimately you should do what feels right for you and baby. And just because you don't feel as "crunchy" doesn't mean you've lost all your crunch. You don't have to be perfect, your little one will always think you're perfect anyways. Until their teenage years of course.  ;)

Hope you can enjoy the experience and find peace in your decisions.

  • I just realized today that I will totally need my full dosage of psych meds (for ADHD and depression/anxiety), which means I will most likely not even be able to try to breastfeed my son when he's born. :-( It makes me sad, frustrated, and a little bit of a failure, even though I'm slightly relieved at the same time. I hope that doesn't make me a hypocrite and/or a bad mom-to-be. I've just read all these good things about breastfeeding your child, and he's already gonna have a few of the odds stacked against him (ADHD and probably obesity), and I just wanted to help him as much as possible....

  • Total rant I don't know where to put it so here goes: I f'ing HATE Craigslist and want to smack the shit out of whoever thought it would be funny to post a personal ad there using my son's cell number. Yesterday someone posted an ad saying he was a single female looking for some hot c*ck. He started getting all of these phone calls and worse yet pics of various dicks from inquiring males sent to his phone. What The Fuck kind of world is this where kids would think this is a funny or okay prank? Not only do I find this a potentially horrifyingly dangerous position my son has been placed in, I am so naively shocked at the number of people who instantly responded to such an ad. The ad was reported and removed, the calls have stopped but I am still going to have his number changed. It's shit like this that makes parenting so much harder. You can't protect them from everything. But you can teach them what it means to have a moral center and there are so many kids out there who seem to be lacking in this area. What you do isn't just about you and the here and now. Silly stupid things can have damaging, lasting & damming effects on a web of people. I'm already a bit sketchy about Craigslist and now it's even more vile to me.

  • @emilyh107 I love that your husband does your daughter's braids. That's so sweet
@Silvermystique13‌ You've gotta do what's best for you. If being on your meds makes you the best mother you can be, then that will be the best for LO - breastfed or not.

WTF is wrong with people!!!  I'm so sorry that you're having to deal with that.  I dread parenting during the teenage years.

Especially since most of us can't use our own upbringing for an example.  Text messaging and Facebook DID NOT EXIST when I was a teenager, so I have no basis on how to handle it.  Although, I'm sure by the time these babies are teenagers, it will be something else...but still, it's a whole new world with the shit teens can get into...

Oh I feel like I've dealt with a few doozies (sp?) between my 14 & 17 yr old. And it is just mind boggling. The days when my mom feels bad for the issues I've had to address with the kids, make me feel like I'm not so crazy after all, and also sad that as a parent sometimes there isn't much you can do but tell them people suck. (sighs)

I take this a different way - I can't use my upbringing as an example because I did some pretty bad things that I never want this baby to do or know about!  I don't know how my mom put up with me.

agree flojo... between the things me and H did I don't know what I will do if any of my kids do anything like it.

In a way it's still an example though because you know the stuff YOU did and how you got away with it, so you know a little bit of how to recognize if they are doing the same thing.  Also, you know how you were disciplined for it if you got caught.

But there's so much new stuff that's available to kids that wasn't available to us, so it's a lot harder to recognize when shit's going down.  For example, DH's uncle was having issues with his teenagers because he had found out that one of them was sexting and the other was downloading porn through his playstation.  That wasn't a thing that crossed anyone's minds when we were there age, so how do you figure out when it's going on?

Hopefully our generation has a bit more of an edge with keeping up & understanding the new technology because we grew up with the ever changing advancements and stuff, but it's scary to realize everything kids can get into now that just wasn't a thought...

@Pepper6‌ you are right I can smell bullshit a mile away even when H still tries to pull a fast one on me (I only had one beer I swear... right H) and I also was always the one who got caught so I was always in trouble lol. I like to think I'm pretty up to date on the technology thing but there are definitely things I don't know a lot about. I totally get your point.
  • @Rachel5130 he is 17 and does the typical teenage boy "things" (but that's a whole other can of beans I have with him) so that is a tiny silver lining that he wasn't mortified.

Is it bad that I feel like I'd flip a little more if this was my 14yr old daughter though? Maybe it's her age that would make me flip a little extra.

  • On the technology thing, I'm just glad we're not like people our grandparents age.  I just spent the last 10 minutes explaining to my nearly 70 year-old-coworker that deleting emails on your phone deletes them in your Outlook and that's why she didn't have any emails from this past week (and reminding her again to NOT delete any valid emails in case you ever need to go back to them)...  Also, that, no, your email isn't messed up and only getting old ones, you somehow scrolled down into last years emails and you just need to scroll up....

...stuff like this makes me yearn for maternity leave already.  I'd love to have a day where I don't have to explain the most basic of computer commands.
  • I just saw a very pregnant lady walking down the street wth her with her shirt pulled up to her bra, belly out with a henna tattoo around her belly button. It's 50 degrees out, aren't you freezing?!

I think we're all starting to go crazy. I didn't see it today either and it didn't even occur to me we missed it
  • My beautiful, easy to put to bed daughter just took two hours to put down, including having to bring her in to my bed to get her to actually fall asleep. She started off yelling, wound up screaming crying, and it was totally not normal at all. We did motrin for teething and it didn't help at all. I'm now left wondering what else might be wrong and I feel awful that I don't know and can't help. She finally fell deeply enough that we could move her back to her crib, but oy! Poor little thing.

Everything can harm my baby. @-)

Umm no, that is a good way to give you child a really weird texture aversion. I have been giving DD chunks of these things for a quite a while now and she handles these things just fine, she also only have 8 teeth.

Ya, that's what I thought. they said to cut it up into pea sizes. It was basically the opposite of BLW.

@abastian00‌ Thank you for the ergo deal link! I sent it to my sister and she was able to get my carrier for $60 today rather than $120! She was super excited and I was thrilled!!!! I can't wait to use it!

LOW! If it had bacon on it it would have been a fair trade.  You got robbed... ;)

Your instructor would have had a hissy fit had she seen C's dinner, then.  22 months old, sausage cut into rounds, a babybel cheese, peas (that would work, I suppose), with a peeled, whole apple for dessert...
