Big Lebowski!  One of my favorite movies of all time!

Ugh, I am going to rant a bit here, sorry.  I found out today I did not pass the 3-hour GTT.  I am feeling pretty bummed out.  I kind of feel like a failure somehow, even though I know lots of different kinds of people get GD.  I will get over it- just having a pity party for one right now.

This has also been a rough week emotionally.  Nothing bad has happened but I am feeling pretty down, tired, and it feels like even though nothing is going wrong- nothing is really going right either.

Anyway, pity party over.  Moving on!

  • Anyone have meal ideas for a picky toddler?

DDs diet is basically pb&j, pancakes and mac & cheese.

  • I couldn't sleep last night from 2:30am onward, so instead of having a pity party in bed, I got up and took a shower and even dried my hair without waking DH up. Feeling pretty proud that I made something useful of my insomnia finally. Unfortunately I am still tired and really do not want to be at work right now.
  • Tonight my mom and I are going to a huge consignment sale in our area. I'm super pumped because I registered as a new mom so we get to go tonight instead of tomorrow when it's open to the public!!
I did the same a few weeks ago and it was awesome.  I got some amazing deals.  Have fun!!

  • @nelleebelle 1) thanks for being nice to my ridiculous feelings and 2) a weekly board seems legit, right?  I am obviously pro!  :)

I feel like this pregnancy is starting to fly by. In about 94 days I will have a new little squish and will have 2 boys. How the hell do I take care of 2 kids?

    My thoughts exactly!

I met my H for lunch and had the most amazing stuffed baked potato at the BBQ place (butter, sour cream, cheese, bacon, shredded meat, and bbq sauce) along with their yummy sweet tea.

This sounds freaking amazing!!! I'm so hungry right now, stuck home on modified bed rest, and nothing that is here sounds good!!!

  • Yay my tile is all down! Boo we can get to the microwave, sink or get to the backdoor to let the dogs out until the morning. Have to take the dogs out the front door and walk them around to the backyard. Now the stove has joined the fridge in the living room. Eating out again for dinner!

Next house project, I'll just stay at my mom's or be out of town.

  • I. Am. Pissed.

At the beginning of the month, I threw a bridal shower with the other MOH in the wedding. Us and the bride are all really good friends. I bought the cake and paid for the invitations while the other MOH did food, champagne, and decorations. We had agreed to just split the cost at the end because we live 80 miles away and couldn't ever get together to shop at the same time.

Today she asks me if I've added up how much I spent. I tell her yes, that the cake (for 50 people) and the invitations and the flatware I bought ended up costing $205. I ask how much she spent. She replies with $605. Wtf?! The food was $250. She spent $350 on champagne and decorations. Why would she continue to shop and not ask me if I could afford what she was doing?! Instead she surprises me two weeks later?!
  • $350 on champagne and decor? I hope you were drinking Dom...
  • It's absolutely crazy. I figured she would spend about $350 since she did the food. She bought way too much food and got way too much alcohol and went way overboard on the decorations.

In the beginning I asked if we were including the other bridesmaids and she didn't want to. Great. So now I'm stuck with a $400 shower bill. I love the bride but she knows that I was/am in no position to be spending that much right now!

Nope. The cheapest bubbly she could find. In excessive amounts.

I seriously want to throw a tantrum of toddler proportions right now. We've been good friends for like 10 years now! Why couldn't she be upfront instead of "oh hey btw I spent $600 and since I didn't want to include the other girls in the planning and purchasing, you owe me!"

    BITCH!!!! UGH.

Ask for receipts? Maybe shes trying to get extra.
I'm going to be down in her area this weekend so I plan on it. Thinking back to the shower, I can see how she easily spent that much. I just didn't question at the time because I was hot and sweaty and trying to get everything set up. I could kick myself.
  • Did anyone ever hear back from @mrsdbc‌?
    Hope all is okay!

  • @chickpea912‌ that must be a Jewish mother thing to tell your kids the kitchen is closed!! my mom said that to me ALL. THE. TIME. and it always made me so mad because I knew she couldn't really close the kitchen but somehow when those lights got turned off I damn sure stayed out of the kitchen. and it's funny because I say it to DS now too

@stephross88 One of my coworkers/parents gave me that line, which her mother in law used - it's genius!  M kept asking for food, saying she was hungry after dinner.  Since I started this, she knows the kitchen is closed and doesn't really ask for food again.  It can backfire, though - at one point, I turned on the light to put something away, and M was like, "Ima, the kitchen is closed!"

  • @ohyealovely‌ , WTF? I've thrown several showers and never spent more than $200, usually under $150. Total You just do it smart and budget-minded.

I knew it would cost a little more since there were going to be 50 people, but I wasn't expecting the grand total to be $800. She just went seriously out of control with decor and alcohol. Eff you, Pinterest, for giving her all of her expensive ideas!
  • @chickpea912‌ love that she calls you Ima :-bd
  • @nelleebelle‌ what if you did the GD as one big thread so people could reference through it? Unless you wanted it to be a weekly check-in? I love the idea though!

We started out as Mommy and Daddy, even though I really wanted to be Ima.  The problem though was that we had a dog for years before M came along, and we were always Mommy and Daddy with the dog, so it was just too difficult to do both, because honestly, it was just the dog.  And then we had to put our dog down last March and I decided that I really wanted to be Ima, and I made the transition.

More often than not, she calls me Ima, but I also respond to Mom, Mommy, and Mama.

I'm probably a super mean mom, but I don't really cater to my kid in terms of food.  I make dinner, and we all eat together (I'm actually really proud that we've made family dinner - AT A TABLE, even - work and a totally normal thing).  Now, if I'm going to make a green veggie (I do do that on occasion :) ), I might go out of my way to choose something she likes just to tilt the scales in my favor that she might actually eat it.  But yeah... I make one dinner, and if she doesn't eat it, I get all dramatic and I tell her "Well, after dinner is done and we clean up and turn off the lights, the kitchen is closed.  It will reopen in the morning for breakfast.  If you are hungry, you can eat breakfast in the morning."  It works wonders for us.

Good to hear that this actually works...because that is totally my plan! :)

I did that last week and it was awesome! I got an activity mat, vibrating rocker thing, and a bunch of clothes for under $60.
  • @ElTrain5‌ - How does one train a baby to sleep through everything? No snark, I'm totes serious. DH is a police officer and is on night shift 8 months of the year. I don't want him having to tiptoe all the time.

I was just taking about this with my parents. We grew up with them taking us hot air ballooning (the burners are pretty loud) and they were in a bowling league too, So we were pretty much able to sleep anywhere. Not sure how difficult it was for them at first but I think just sticking with it made it so we were used to the noise.
  • We just kind of did what we wanted while C was sleeping, and her door is always open at least a crack. We didn't want a baby who would only sleep in dead silence. My older brother lived with us for a month when she was almost a year and was astonished at how noisy we could be without her waking up. His ex made all noises stop once their kids were in bed and they still wake up at the least bit of noise. He was jealous. Just do what you normally would. The only time we try to be quiet is when she's falling asleep, but once she's out, fair game.

    CSC arrived 5/7/12

    CHC arrived 6/2/14

  • @joules325 definitely blame pregnancy brain! House guests for that long so soon after birth sounds awful. Even if they are family and awesome.

  • Apparently I had a pregnancy brain moment mixed with some dyslexia in tagging joules above. le sigh.
