Do you guys wash EVERYTHING that LO is going to touch? Some things are obvious, but (and this does sound pretty dumb) - specifically how do you wash (1) regular pacifiers for the first time? [in the dishwasher?] or (2) WubbaNubs?
Are the antibiotics for GBS something that you get fairly quickly via a saline lock then you can walk around afterwards? Or do you wind up tethered to the bed for a long time?

They'll put it in the drip, but there's no reason you can't walk around with your IV pole.
Am I being crazy neurotic if I put some leftover puppy pee pads from dog training on my side of the bed in case my water breaks overnight? My inlaws gave us an amazingly comfortable down mattress topper and I'm not sure I want to find out what will happen if it gets wet and/or pay the astronomical price to clean it off my normal schedule. I know most women don't have the great flood or anything but my brain keeps saying it could be you.
Nope! I have an expensive mattress and have a pee pad under me in case it breaks (or I pee!).
Some of the best post partum advice I got was to put a bath towel under the sheet on your side of the bed. I wish I'd had a water proof mattress protector and done the towel trick. I think I stopped using the towel 1-2 weeks after. You will probably need to change your sheets in the middle of the night at least a couple of times. Night sweats are common, while your milk comes in and your supply adjusts you can leak big puddles, plus you may have pee or blood leaks (I loved the peace of mind from using depends).
Definitely a stupid question here: since your uterus is so huge now, and is basically right under your ribs, it hurts there during a contraction too right? I feel silly but when everyone says it feels like menstrual cramps on steroids I didn't think about how much more space your uterus takes up so how much more pain it would be if it's your whole uterus that hurts.
I think this is a great question. I hadn't thought of that and I'm glad I know now rather than when I'm in labor thinking something is wrong. I like to be as informed as possible!!
Because of my low supply issue and Luke's eating I've been pumping after every feeding. I'm finally starting to build a stash, rather than just having enough to get through each day. I want to start freezing some but I still only pump a couple ounces each time. Can I store what I've pumped for the day in the fridge and then Freeze it at the end of the day once there is enough to fill a freezer pouch?

Freeze within 24 hours. Do not add warm milk to cooled milk, wait til they are the same temp to combine. Milk banks say you have to freeze within 12 hrs but I never had a problem with 24. I wouldn't fill a pouch full. 2-4oz portions are best, freeze flatter and faster and make for less wasted milk.
So I'm curious. What's the truth about caffeine? I know that it may cause miscarriages in the first trimester, but what are the other risk? What has your doctor said about it? Thanks in advance!

From what I recall, excessive amounts of caffeine can lead to low birth weight*** and premature births.
To add to this question, (I asked my nurse and she was very vague about it) what are breast feeding rules with caffeine? She said "treat it te same as pregnancy, don't drink it late at night if you want your kid to sleep" But stms, what's your experience? Does it make a huge difference? Is it in anyway similar to alcohol while breast feeding or does it stay in the system longer?
Edit: low birth weight not rate

As far as I know the caffeine would contribute to uterine contractions so they say to limit the amount like 2 cups a day. In the beginning of pregnancy I totally stopped coffee thinking it was best to go throughout and was having terrible migraines. I've had migraines pre-pregnancy they were just worse and doc actually encouraged me to drink caffeine as it would help with the headaches dilating blood vessels to head. I questioned when she said I could have 2-3 cups in a day and she said it was fine. Maybe if you're high risk may be different
A soda a day helps me with headaches and engery. I was just curious as to what the big fuss was. I've been researching but everything I find doesn't seem concrete just assumptions.

I drink an ass ton of caffeine. I can't survive without it. I've tried quitting, but addiction is hard. Still nursing DD, even if I don't drink caffeine she bounces off the walls.
Yeah there isn't a hard and fast rule with caffeine. Even though the AMA says 250mg a day is fine during pregnancy some women still choose not to drink it. Same with BF. I never noticed a problem with drinking my usual cup or two of coffee. Baby never seemed to have trouble sleeping, but it could be different for yours.

I haven't had any coffee or soda with caffeine (except one sip that I recall) this pregnancy. I have eaten a shit ton of chocolate though haha. That just means she will come out sweet right?
Why do my boobs look so good? Then I peed on a stick...
Caffeine never really affected DD while I was BFing. I drank about the same amount as I did when I was pregnant (2 cups of coffee in the morning, sometimes a coke in the afternoon), and I read somewhere that baby comes out used to the amount you've been drinking.

I drink a fair amount of caffeine when not pregnant. I never noticed it having any effect on DD while BF. I couldn't eat onions though. It gave her tummy issues.

Good. I will be dying for some frappes when the weather is nice. McDonalds, Starbucks, Tim Hortons, I don't care where, i just want some them all!

So I just realized that all of the footed sleepers I have are either NB or 3 mos. is there a size 0-3 in between like with onesies? I'm afraid I am missing a size.

Yes, but you are probably fine skipping the 0-3 size. My DD was too long for one piece sleepers in the smaller sizes so it was better to just skip to 3 months.

I need the opposite! Premie barely fits, and new born is waaaaaaaaay too big! I need an in between size!
There have been studies recently that show that caffeine BARELY transfers across breast milk. Like negligible, so it really shouldn't affect LO at all. I could drink 3 cups of coffee and it had zero effect on DS.
How soon can you start exercising after a vaginal birth? Do you start with walks for few weeks and then build up??
It's really subjective. It's totally going to depend on your own personal experience: if you had a tear/stitches, how sore you are, your general activity level during and before pregnancy, etc. Ask your doctor for best personal advice. I had a lot of stitches so it was hard for me to walk any longer distance because of the rubbing on them, but energy wise I probably would've been ok. Listen to your body.
I have been following this thread and making a million mental notes. I haven't seen anything mentioned about the medela freestyle pump on here yet. Sorry if it was! I honestly know nothing about it and wanted to get spare parts to be prepared. It doesn't seem to have membranes (at least they aren't sold anywhere), does anyone have experience with this pump?
Are the antibiotics for GBS something that you get fairly quickly via a saline lock then you can walk around afterwards? Or do you wind up tethered to the bed for a long time?
You can get it with a saline lock. Just ask. That's how I did mine last time around.
@emanresu14 the freestyle is one whole piece so when it goes bad you have to buy a whole new piece, which sucks. This was the #1 factor in why I got the PISA with DD and not the freestyle. And you can't use the parts with any other Medela pump and vise-versa, so if you need a medical grade pump you'll have to get another kit.
I was always under the impression that 0-3 months and 3 months are the same size. Same for 3-6 months and 6 months, etc.
Generally, if the size is listed that way it means "up to" - as in a 3 month sleeper is sized for babies "up to" 3 months.
This exactly. Different brands just print different things on their tags (Carters just says 3 mo but it means "0-3" or "up to 3" whereas GAP writes out 0-3).

The membrane on the Freestyle is the yellow rubber part that is inside the hard, clear plastic part that attaches to the cones. It is totally different (much larger) than the PISA or the Symphony (hospital grade) so you need to search specifically for Freestyle Spare Parts Kit (usually around $25-30 on Amazon).
What does it cost to deliver a baby in the US after insurance?
That is too highly variable to answer, really. I have excellent insurance and it will cost me nothing. Other people will pay thousands.
I already have about 1500 in bills from ultrasounds, office visits....
I've also paid several hundreds seperate to labs for bloodwork.
My deductible is 1500 ( but because of the new year I'm not quite there yet)
Max out of pocket is 3000.
Do you have your insurance paperwork? Or just give insurance a call and ask where you are with charges.
I'll be setting up a payment plan...
I think delivery averages 6 to 8 thousand before insurance. (uncomplicated vaginal)
Definitely varies greatly. We paid less than 400 for the midwife fees and our estimated hospital bill is 500 for everything me and baby. This does not include the pediatrician visit.
How much hair do you actually lose PP? And how long does it take to start falling out? Anything I can do to stop it from falling out as much?
It starts at about 2 months PP for me and lasts until around 6 months PP. Mostly noticed in the shower and brushing, couldn't tell by just looking at me. Its due to hormones, so I don't think there is much you can do.
~Missed MC at 8 weeks. D&C at 12 weeks on 4/17/13~
I read that you don't use the car seat base on an airplane. What do you do about putting the car seat in a vehicle once you get to your destination? Is the seat belt latch only really safe enough?

ETA - I've lost quite a bit each time. It's grown back both times for me though.
