My UO: If you don't know what you're doing, you shouldn't be in charge of payroll.
I think the "policy" of "If you're 15-45 minutes late, and you want to be paid for it you have to use a full hour of personal time" is stupid. My twatwaffle office manager recently started taking over payroll, and she has NO idea what she's doing, so she automatically took an hour of my personal time without asking.
Hmm... No. If you're going to start taking people's personal time you should fucking ask. I was 1/2 hr late Tuesday because of the snow, so she took an hour of my personal time. Fuck, had I known she was going to do that, I would have slept in. Stupid.
Maybe this more deserved to be on WTF Wednesday, but it kind of fits here, right?
I really didn't know there was anything against taking little kids on boats. I actually consider myself pretty overprotective/overbearing and I just never thought of it as an issue until yesterday.
I've even gone as far as taking our pack n play out on the boat when DS was really young to sleep and play. It worked out awesome.

Oops.
I don't actually think there's anything wrong with taking a kid on a relatively slow, smooth boat ride. As long as you have a quality life jacket that will keep your kids head above water in the event of an accident.
It's just interesting to note where different people draw the line. Most of the time I'd tell you I want to take every possible safety precaution when it comes to my kid, but I also don't want to be that Nervous Nelly that never lets my kid do anything fun because I'm scared.
But I guess my UO for today is Twitter. I think it is the most self centered "look at me" of all the social media sites. I don't quite get its purpose. That being said, I am also stuck in the social media dark ages. All I commit to is FB, and you bitches on here. I think that's plenty. I couldn't imagine trying to keep up with more. I don't understand how so many people can dislike nuts. I love them.

Again, it's a personal parenting decision, as is crib bumpers. My only point in using that in my call out was that some parents could deem that unsafe, just like she deemed bumpers unsafe. Some parents think it's totally okay, just as some do with bumpers.
I'm stuck in a lab for the next 2 hours and 52 minutes. With no food. Please someone have something good. Kthnxbi.
It's today?! Good luck! Did you find a sitter for Ellie or did you bring her with you? Fx for good results!
Thanks! DH got to take the morning off! I'm glad she isn't stuck here being bored with me, but I would be way less bored if she was. As would everyone else in the waiting room.

Well I'm going to go political today. While I rarely disagree with the left middle left ish types, I'm not a Clinton fan (Hillary). I don't think there's any evidence to say definitively that she would have done better than Obama, and I don't believe that she's electable if she's running against Christie (unless he does something like choose Palin as a running mate, in which case, WTF?). I don't really want to talk politics, so I'm not sure why I'm bringing this up, so I'll move on.
Boats... I hate boats. Hate them. Hate being in the sun, hate the wind, hate how they put oil into the water, hate how the sun reflects back up into your face. My kids will likely never be allowed on a non-commercial boat without life jackets. Just like they'd never be allowed on bikes without helmets. I refused to let MIL take my 10 week old on a boat, because the life jacket she was proposing to use was also used on an 18 month old (so how on earth could that fit???). No way was my 10 week old who couldn't remotely hold up her head going joy riding on the lake in a power boat.
I don't care what you do with your own kid and boats though.
Is this only on boats or are you a mountain person who doen't enjoy the beach either? I love boats and water and sun and all that summer shit! I'm from Alabama so it's hit the mid 50s a few days this past week and I was seriously debating whether or not it's bathing suit weather yet.... DH informed me it isn't [-(
Eidted: to add that we have our own pool, there's no way my newly fat ass would get in a bathing suit in front of real people right now
My UO is if you are willfully underemployed (I.e. you can physically and mentally hold down a job and you CHOOSE not to) and live off food stamps, wic, medicaid/medicare and child support, I do not think you should be allowed to spend 1800$+ on a beach vacation. And/or you should be required to show the government where that money came from and have that factored in to your benefit calculations.
@Letayloreo, I like the beach (minus the sand). But I like it from under my hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, long sleeved shirt and long pants under an umbrella.
Love mountains. Love them.
When someone asks you if you'd rather live near the beach or the mountains forever I sort of wonder why that's a hard question, because mountains are the most amazing thing ever, and the beach is a PITA.

I didn't know this was an issue either. The life jackets are designed so that if they fall in the water, their head is kept out of the water. We took DS out on a catamaran cruise out of the Hilton Lake Tahoe resort in August when he was about 1. There were two other kids on the boat all about the same age. There was even a kids/babies rate. Seeing that it is owned by Hilton, I can't imagine their risk management/insurance/lawyers would allow them to do that if it was too terribly risky.
Frankly, after having taken DS on a plane, I find plane rides (where they ride in your lap and don't have their own seat) just as risky or riskier. If turbulence was very bad or there was actually an emergency landing, it would be just as dangerous as a car crash...probably more so.

This.. We took the kids on our friends' pontoon last summer when Dd2 was about 1. She wore a life jacket the whole time and I felt completely comfortable with her safety.
Yeah, I did some quick research and the coast guard just recommends they be at least 18 pounds so that their personal flotation devices (i.e. life jackets) fit properly and that you put sunscreen on them, etc. I think it is like anything - common sense needs to be used. If you are out with a bunch of drunkards on a booze cruise during a busy, holiday weekend then it is not the best idea. But I think once they reach the appropriate weight and if done safely, it is fine.
Edit: grammar

I have a strong dislike of Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day and other "holiday" decorations. Don't get me wrong, I love decorating for Easter and Christmas, but I think the majority of holiday decorations I see are just plain tacky.
...this could also be because the crazy lady in our condo complex insists on decorating for each month of the year. Just watched her put up those gross peel and stick window decals on the front lobby windows of our building (without the condo association's approval!), and now I'm debating writing an email to the board asking them to remove them. It makes the property look...well, trashy...for lack of a better word.

Don't forget the skittles and slice bread and cheese.
On the food end...I'm not a fan of chocolate. I'll eat it if it's covering a candy like Reese's, but the solid chocolate, ewww!!! Also, I could do without ever eating ice cream again. My H and oldest could eat it every day if they wanted.
I honestly can't think of another one at the moment.
I think it's ridiculous to put your dog in a baby carriage and stroll around town with it. The first time I ever saw this I was in LA having lunch with my sister. Tori Spelling rolls up and out comes a stroller. "Aw, she's babysitting!" I thought (this was before she started having kids). Nope. It was her damn dog. She brought her dog to lunch in a STROLLER. I can't.

Pretty sure this is NOT unpopular.
There will always be egregious examples of people abusing the system. They're outliers, though, not the norm.

Lol. This reminds me of a family here that has a house on maybe half an acre of land and every year they add more of those Christmas blowup characters. The last time I tried to count there were 73. No rhyme or reason to the placement. Just ... yeah, bad.
ooooo I have an UO and I remembered it today! But I'm not sure if it is totally a UO....
My UO is that I can't take degrees from online universities (Devry, Phoenix, etc) seriously. But this is total bias on my part just from knowing/working with higher-ups who completed their degrees online and strike me as totally incompetent. It is probably relevant to add that I work in education. I'm sure that is not the case for everyone, but I have yet to have an experience which makes me feel differently (and I think there are an awful lot of pitfalls to online education).
I hate peanut butter (I actually can't even kiss DH if he's eaten some) since pregnant. I still love nuts and Reeses but that is the extent of peanut butter I can handle.
About the boating and kids I grew up on a creek and we had a dock. I could swim at 18 months so I think I'm biased but we always wore life-jackets and had a healthy respect for the water. I think kids and boating is fine with adult supervision and proper precautions.

I want to go get valentines day window decals so bad! More for the toddler entertainment value than anything else. I tried to bribe DD to go to a store yesterday for window stickers. She's obsessed with stickers and I thought she would be all over it. She just stuck regular stickers on the window instead.

I can totally get on board with them for a toddler activity or something...but the 60+ year old woman putting them up in my lobby for every month of the year? I just can't :-)

agreed
i'm sure you're right. i'm influenced by the several people i know for which the above situation is a daily lifestyle. it drives me nuts being told they can't buy shoes or clothes for their kids or getting "guilted" about what Christmas presents we buy because they can't "match" us and therefore we are "bribing" the children...but they can somehow find all this money to go to the beach. where does that come from??
also, i don't have any opinion on what people eat when on food stamps. lord knows i am not on them and still can't afford/choose not to purchase things to make large, healthy meals. bring on the potato chips please
Ok, so I never actually posted a UO and this one probably isn't even unpopular, but I hate some of the #s on instagram.... or maybe it's how people use them. today is Thursday which = #tbt and this chick I follow is 29 weeks preg and just posted a pic of her first (8wk) ultrasound pic (again) with the #tbt.... seriously? I don't know why this is pissing me off so much, but it is.
I know this has been talked about but I HATE the "I had to find out if we are having a boy or a girl, I'm too much of a planner not to". Can't you just say "I want to buy sex appropriate clothes and decor so we found out" instead? That's really the only thing you are planning for. We didn't find out but I can assure you I am still "planning" for my baby. I have no intentions of just throwing it in a walmart bag and calling it a day after I pop the thing out. I just think that is the dumbest reason EVER to cite. Everyone plans for a baby!
Haven't thought of my UO this week yet, I'll be back. I had like 20 on Sunday and now I can't remember,
@kitchencolors girl I feel you. No way in hell would I let my 10 week old on any boat. At 1 year I would have to evaluate the situation (and be on helicopter mom mode). After that I feel like they're too mobile and too busy to be back on a boat until they're like....7. But I'm so not a boat person and even less so since having kids. This makes me quite unpopular with my Texas in laws who live for their powerboat on the lake in the summer.
