Re: UO

  • I think that dental/vision/hearing should all be part of regular health insurance.  It is part of you body and problems with your teeth, eyes, and hearing can have serious impact on your health as a whole.
THIS.  I'm hard of hearing, and hearing tests/hearing aids aren't even covered by most insurance plans.  You can get a vision add-on, but not one for hearing?  I don't get it at all.  And of course hearing aids cost thousands...

I don't think I've ever done a UO before... So here's my first- I hate seeing pictures of baby girls with no shirts on! Unless they're just running around in a diaper they need something up top! A friend had her daughter do a cake smash session for her first bday and had a full out tutu on and leggings and she looked really cute- but nothing on her too half- if you don't care about her getting cake on the tutu or leggings why care if she gets cake on a little onesie! I looked through each picture since they were cute pictures but I pointed it out to my hubby on each one that it was irking me.
Why baby girls specifically?  It's not like they have boobs to cover or anything yet.
I'm not sure. It doesn't bother me when they just have a diaper on and no shirt. It's just when they're all dressed except for the top. It just kept rubbing me the wrong way when I see pictures. I would feel the way if I saw pictures of a toddler girl with no shirt on too.
What about a 1-year-old boy in shorts and socks with no shirt? I agree with @Kate070. I feel like it's subconsciously sexualizing something that's not there.
My thoughts exactly, @pandadair.  At that age I really don't see how there's a difference between little boys and little girls.

  • I don't understand why gender neutral baby stuff = animals. Specifically elephants. Why are there elephants all over everything? If you like it, great I don't judge. I just really think its strange that there's SO MANY options for elephants, and so few options for someone like me who just wanted some stripes or polka dots or something simple.
Give me all the tiny cartoon elephants!

Also, for plain stripes/polka dots sheets, we just got them separate from any sets at Target.  I can't remember if it was a pack with both in, or if each sheet was in a separate package.  I don't know about the rest of the baby stuff, but I love those elephants.

There's a game called Achievement Unlocked with elephants like that, and another shorter sillier one by the same designer that I can't remember the name of offhand, with elephants in that boxy cartoon design.  I don't know if they come from other sources too, but that's my primary association with them.  It was an awesome funny game, so I love those elephants.
  • Re: Twitter, I think it definitely gets misused. There are some tweets that are totally incomprehensible with all the textspeak people use to try to fit their crap into the character limit and the hashtags. But I still find it really useful. I don't have an account, I just check certain feeds like the one that updates traffic in my city and school bus cancellations/delays. Those feeds are usually the quickest way to disseminate information and I think for that kind of thing, Twitter is great.

My UO: I am not down with the chevron trend in home decor. It's everywhere and I don't get it. In small doses, it's ok but so many websites I've looked at for nursery ideas have been all chevron, all the time. No disrespect to those of you using that pattern, to each their own, I'm just not a fan.
    So what about this? :)

  • My lame late-to-the-game UO: I don't particularly care about Justin Bieber, but like two things about him:  It's fun to sing (by which I mean deliberately butcher) his Baby song when singing to my kid, and the term 'belieber.'  DH sometimes says he likes this or that Bieber song, so I'll tease him and ask if he's a belieber.  I love how ridiculous that word is.  (Although, in general, I kinda hate the whole idea of fans giving themselves a group name.  Can't you just stick with nerd or geek?)

That's not fair, I'm predisposed to liking this because it's purple (my favourite)! I think it actually does look good but I wouldn't enjoy it every day. The pattern would start to freak me out sooner or later.

:) It's only on one wall---Thank God because it took MH FOREVER to do it. We are doing some of the decor in the nursery in chevron but just little accents. And that's the only chevron in the house. DD has a polka dot room. It's amazing.
I need a picture of the polka dots!

This. So much so. Dental health is extremely important, it determines a lot when it comes to your overall health. Many dental issues and diseases have been found linked to and cause of major health issues and diseases elsewhere in the body. Why on Earth wouldn't health insurance companies catch on and start including it, as well as making it a priority.
