If anyone is bored or wants to find something to be angry about, July 13's UO went in all sorts of crazy directions today.
WHY?!?! WHY?!?! WHY did I just read all 473 pages of that nonsense! But it certainly has it all: Evolution Vs Creationism: Check I love the military~I hate the military: Check MOAR Minimum wage-Check Less Minimum wage-check People need to stop living off the system: Check No more tipping: Check Collective food related thread hijack: Check I am a bitchy dental hygienist and fat people make my life hard: Priceless!
While I was buying a card for my secret santa I had a stranger comment that my due date must be soon. No. It's not. It's four months from today, and people like her make me scared that I'm not going to be able to walk by the end if this is what they all think 9 months pregnant looks like. I should have come up with something clever to say, but all I did was mumble something about how my jacket makes me look more pregnant than I am.
This! And then they follow up with: "are you sure it's not twins?" Well now that you mention it I'm sure all of my ultrasounds and Doppler checks have just been missing an extra baby in there makin me huge. I swear my boss is morbidly obsessed with how big I've gotten.

I got to the "evolution is just a theory" and I was like...I'm out!! Too bad the no more tipping didn't come up when ranch lady was around. They deserved some of her insanity.

It's so funny to me they way southerners in general react to snow. My Best friend moved to Texas and she said the threat of snow would close down the city including her husbands base. Then they would get maybe an inch and the kids would bundle up and attempt snowmen! I know it's an element ya'll aren't used to (did you catch my southerners reference!?). So stay safe! I'm up here in MI longing for that snow!!!
LOL. Southerners and snow crack me up. It was less funny last March when I got stranded in Washington D.C. for days (then in Boston, then in New York) trying to get back to Iceland. Washington D.C. thought their might be snow and closed everything. It rained. LOL
DH just called me and said he would meet me at our MFM appt and that tonight if I'm cleared is date night! He knew what a shitty day it was yesterday. We're going to melting pot and hunger games!!! Wooooooohoooo. Please let me off bed rest!!!
I'm not looking forward to freezing rain today.... Tons of snow, I'm all for.... Freezing rain is uncontrollable and people are dumb and I don't that the patience I had last winter, lol.
I wasn't going to go read July '13 until I saw there was a bitchy dental hygienist with something against fat people... thats classic.
I was worried about the same thing here in Columbus @lia619 and @kateleestar! Thankfully the roads were just wet for the most part, and I left a little earlier so it wasn't as crowded on the roads. I just looked out the window of though, and it's starting to snow now!! =D>
The school closures honestly have nothing to do in snow. If it were just snow that was about an inch it'd be fine. The problem comes in black ice. And you northerners have rarely if ever experienced that. It suuuuper dangerous because you can't see it and will get absolutely no traction. On top of that, out cities are not prepared for ice storms the way they should be as we only have one sand truck each in the bigger cities and some rural towns have none.

Nah, the North has seen their fair share of all shitty cold weather. Black ice/wintery mix/slush/sleet/blizzard etc.. I've seen all of it in Michigan. Part of why I moved to the South!
Ugh. A fb "friend" posted that article about how a mother thinks she have her kid autism. And commented "gives me a lot to think about when I have kids". Seriously? You can't be that dumb. Do a little research before you make life decisions based on some crack pot woman. It's too early to fight with you....

We have black ice all the time here in Illinois... Just had it last week. Warnings on the news about it.

I'm from WI so I find the snow reactions a bit crazy. However! This was an ice storm and there is NO amount of skill that makes you safe driving on an inch-thick sheet of ice. I admit I rolled my eyes yesterday but told DH I'd eat my words if it turned out bad. It did lol! My power went off a few hours ago too, so idk how I'm gonna get ready for work... And I honestly don't want to attempt the drive.
Barf! Ice is the worst! And up here there is always the idiot that thinks thy can drive their SUV through it no problem. I assume siring down that is an absolute nightmare! No one knows how to navigate that slippery stuff dow. There!
@jessiealbin I was just going off what my mom said. She used to live in Boston for most of her life an Maine and the surrounding areas and said she had never experienced black ice before moving here.
It's scarce stuff lol. In be staying in my pjs by the fire enjoying my forbidden hot coco and enjoying my day off.

Haha yeah I wa surprised too. Fingers crossed it stays that way. We are still having it come down pretty hard and all our trees are drooping with the weight of the ice. We were pretty lucky in that the are all drooping away from the house and not on the roof! I hope you get your power back soon!

Hahaha! We don't get black ice?Hahahahahaha!!!!!!!! Ooooookkkkkkkk I'm seriously laughing and snorting!
Hahahahah!!!! We get black ice All The Time here in MI. Contrary to popular belief it's not just snow up here. He just had rain the other day and a freeze warning. I would say from November through January we have to worry about ice more than snow. The past few winters snow hasn't hit us until the later half of the winter!
Ooooh, do we get ice up in here. LOL. Obviously. The worst, to me, is actually the snow, followed my a slight warm up so that it melts, a little rain, then a big freeze followed by more snow. We get that ALL the time. So, you think its snow, but really, underneath is a sheet of death ice that makes ice skating rinks look like a rough surface. And they don't salt ANYTHING here. Ever. (ok, a tiny bit on the major roads only, but, no sidewalks are ever salted. Walk at your own risk.)
I want to do stuff for the baby in his room, but, DH's stuff has taken over that space, and every time I walk by, I give up before going in there. He's totally filled the room!!!
For chrissakes. I'm starting to think doctors should treat pregnant women like anorexics and just tell us not to weigh ourselves at all. The number is going to go up, it's not entirely in your control, and if it upsets you - STOP CHECKING. Monitor what you eat or how much you exercise if you are so inclined - you can actually control those things. I get it, it's depressing to gain back weight I fought to lose - but I don't get on the god damn scale and freak myself out every day because that would be crazy. /rant
My scale is packed away, I honestly don't give a shit. I know I'm going to gain weight, I'm growing a freaking human. I can barely eat anything these days without needing a shit ton of insulin, so what I can eat, I'm eating it...and then some more.
I just had my first bout of lightheadedness and the shakes... not cool. I still feel goofy, and I may just go find the free hot chocolate dispenser and get some sugar there...

We have black ice here in NE Ohio too... That's actually the only time my work got closed, lol. (I work in the utility industry)... I had to work from home, but we didn't have to come in. Too dangerous! We could have like 3 feet of snow and I'm good, but ice is totally another beast. I refuse to endanger my life for work.
I was in Atlanta once for Christmas, in like 98 or something... and I have family/friends that live right out side of it, in Conyers... anyways, it was predicted to snow overnight, and my dad and I went to the store for something random like ice cream and LOL the shelves were bare! It was like apocolypse was comnig, lol... I was like 16 and thought it was hilarious. They were out of milk and bread! And we got up the next day and no one wanted to leave the house because, seriously, there was snow lightly covering the grass and only the grass. HAHA. Oh, man... The terrified looks on the faces of my GA friends are still seared into my memory. That was random, lol...
The second you walk outside here, your lungs immediately begin to freeze. It's -20* this morning.. and we have a foot of snow and our roads are a mess. All schools/buses are still running. It's crazy places close down just for ice.
Eta- black ice is a normal thing up here in good old Montana. It's scary, but you just have to expect it. It's everywhere.

Same here but for DS1's room. He will finally be moving into his own room hopefully by Jan but I'm so ready for it to be done. We were given the house that DH grew up in and DS is getting DH's old room. It was previously used as storage for his things from growing up so its been a work in progress to get it all cleaned out and DS moved into it.

I spent last winter in North Dakota (the most north you can possibly get!). Ummm I can definitely tell you a thing or two about my experience with black ice...
I love my obs office. They do an u/s at every appointment practically (they do not bill ins for it - not trying to open that can of worms). Anyways. Had an uneventful checkup and got to see the baby. My anatomy scan is next week. My h hasn't been to an appointment since my first one. Can't wait for him to see what he/she looks like now.
Are you team green!? With an U/S almost every appointment I would cave with that information so easily attainable!!!

You too @lia619 !! You can check the road temps and traffic at www.ohgo.com and click on traffic. The mobile version works great too.
I got to work at 6:45 and the roads were just wet... Who knows what itll be like later though. Ugh.
