weight gain roll call!

i started out at a healthy weight for my height, so my BMI was "normal." i was hoping to put on 30 pounds since they say a healthy weight gain for people with normal BMI's is 25-35 pounds. Had an appt yesterday and i have gained 22 pounds at 28 weeks, so i think i am on track to gain a little more than i had wanted. For those of you who started out at a normal BMI, how much weight have you gained and how many weeks are you? second time moms, do you remember how much weight you gained each week in the third trimester? thanks!

  • Hi there

It sounds like you are doing great!!!! I was in the "normal" range for my BMI and at 26 weeks I've put on 20lbs.  I'm guessing I'm going to be a little over than what I orignally expected Stick out tongue

  • I started off slightly overweight and wanted to gain around 25 pounds... as of my appointment last week at 28 weeks I weighed in at +18 pounds... I think Im doing pretty good for what I wanted to gain...

  • I'm 26 weeks, 3 days, and so far I've gained 20 pounds.  My last appointment was horrible as far as weight gain goes.  I had put on 11 pounds in 4 weeks.  Since then I'm doing much better and have only gained 1 pound per week.

  • 23 lbs at 28 weeks.

  • I admit, I had a pregnancy 'goal weight' of only gaining 25. I'm only 5'2" so even a few extra pounds is a lot on me.

I'm 29 weeks tomorrow and up 18 lbs, so yeah, it looks like I'll end up somewhere around 30 lbs. I just need to stop thinking about it.

It didn't help that a few weeks ago, my mom asked me how much I'd gained and I told her 15 lbs, and her response was "Oh, by looking at you I would have guessed 25 lbs". Ugh. That's going on my mental list of "Things I'll Never to Say to MY Daughter".

  • I started out overweight (BMI of 28).  So far I am at 28 weeks and have gained 17 pounds.  I feel like I'm doing ok..  Still not thrilled though!

  • I have gained 5 pounds and I am 28 weeks. I started at a normal BMI too, I just had really bad morning sickness.
  • I've gained 30lbs so far at 26 weeks.  Dr. said I was on track to gain 50, while it is "above average" she said that for a lot of women it is more realistic then the 25-30 goal.  Oh well, its for my boy! I will lose it eventually!

  • Haven't hopped on the scale since my last appointment, but I was up 21 lbs at 24 weeks last appointment. Gained 4 in weeks 1-16, 16 in weeks 16-21, and 1 in weeks 21-24. I'm thinking my weight gain will continue to be slow going forward, but think I'll definitely exceed my goal of 30 lbs- probably will hit at least 35.

  • 23-25 lbs (I was in the middle of a big move when I got pregnant so I'm kind of estimating my starting weight) at 26 weeks, and I started out overweight. Going home for Christmas was not helpful in this regard. We eat really healthily, though, so I'm trying to stay on track with nutrition and exercise and not worry about weight gain. Whenever I track what I'm eating I'm just about at 2000 calories a day, which is apparently on the low side. I guess my body is really good at gaining weight. I never had morning sickness. The only person I know who gained less than 25 for her whole pregnancy started out obese and was on medication that controlled her weight gain. Among my friends a 35-45 lb gain seems normal, no matter where you start. I was expecting to put on about 35 and 40 seems realistic at this point. Post-baby, I'm giving myself a year of breastfeeding to see where I end up before I start freaking out too much.
  • I was normal BMI before pregnant. I am only up 12 lbs and am 28.5 weeks. I was up 14 lbs at my 28 week appointment w my first and ended at 25 lbs.

  • I was normal weight pre-pregnancy (125 lb, 5'3"), and I'm up 20 pounds at 26 weeks. I didn't have morning sickness and gained about 5-6 lbs first tri.  I'm hoping to keep the weight gain right at about 1 lb per week from here on out.

  • I am already overweight, and I have gained 20 lbs Sad. I gained about 25 TOTAL with DS1,so I am not happy about this. I really hope my weight gain slows down, although it's typical for it to increase in the last few months Tongue Tied

  • At 24w5d I was up 20 lbs. Started out normal pre-preg weight. My doc said if I stay under 40 lbs gained total, I won't hear a peek out of her about weight gain.

  • I started out at a normal healthy weight before getting pregnant and had gained 11 pounds at my 24 week appointment. I'm hoping to stay around 25-30 pounds total, so I guess I'm right on track.
  • I had a normal BMI and gained 30lbs as of 29 weeks.  More than I'd like, but my midwife was not concerned.  I'm trying to be healthier with my eating choices now.

  • At 28 weeks I was up 20lbs. I started out with a normal BMI and didn't have any morning sickness.
  • I've gained 6 lbs total at 27 wks -- and that has been just within the past month.

By this time in my pregnancy with DS I had gained 30 lbs. Same starting weight both times (healthy average BMI) and same eating habits, etc. I had gained 50 lbs by the end.

  • I find this totally fascinating. A great reminder that not only are our bodies all different, every pregnancy is also different!
  • At my 24 week appointment I had only gained 4-5lbs.  I had horrible m/s for months and am still dealing with off and on nausea/throwing up.  My midwife sort-of gave me a hard time about my weight gain, but right now the baby is growing right on track so we're not too concerned.  I do think I've put on a little more since that appointment and have a feeling that I will gain more in the 3rd tri.

  • So far at 27 weeks I have gained 16 lbs.  I Started off at about 120 so I was pretty small to begin with. My goal is to gain 25-30 lbs and so far I should be right on trac.

  • I've gained 20 pounds at 26 weeks, but with twins, I was told 30 pounds for my weight. At a pound a week, I shouldn't  be too much over my target, since twins usually come around 37 weeks. Now, that all goes out the window if I start gaining more than a pound a week...
  • I just had a bad stomach flu/virus so I'm sure I lost some, but this morning I still weighed less than what I did pre-pregnancy.  Baby is growing great, but it seems like my butt/thighs/arms are shrinking.  I was maybe a little overweight pp (I'm 5'1" and was 136 lbs)...

With DD I think I gained maybe 20 lbs, if that.

  • At 27 wks I'm up 17 lbs.  I gained a lot between weeks 20 - 24 and haven't moved up since then.  I've also lost some of my appetite lately and I remember with DS plateauing towards the end, gaining less than a pound a week.

If I can stay under 30 lbs total I'll be happy.

  • I started out a normal BMI and at 28 weeks I had gained 25 pounds total.  I was going to try to keep it to 25 pounds for the whole pregnancy but my OB told me 25 pounds is the average of what they want to see and some women do just gain more. She told me to expect to gain another 20 more!

  • I began this at a normal BMI as well, with a goal of 30 lbs gain.  I had gained ~25 lbs at my 28 week appointment.  According to the doctor, I'm probably going to gain between 35-40 lbs.  It's strange because I had bad m/s, but I didn't loose during it.  I'm also not just eating whatever I feel like.  It is definitely easier for my body to gain weight and I will always have to work on it, so I'm not surprised that I'm on the higher end of normal or a little over.  Just gotta work hard to loose it later.

     Goodluck to all xoxoxo

  • I started out in the normal range. At my 28 week appointment, I had gained 35 pounds which is what we were aiming for total. So, needless to say I will be well over my target weight. Dr says she's not too worried, she'd like me to be at around 45 total but with 10 1/2 weeks to go, I am thinking I'll be right around 50 pounds total.
  • It makes me feel better to read all of your posts. I have been feeling a little down about my weight. I had a normal BMI and I have gained 25lbs at almost 27 weeks. I tend to gain weight easily, but I was hoping to stay within range. It looks like I will be above that. I know it is all for the baby so at least it is for a good cause!

I was working really hard to loose weight right before we got pregnant so it makes it harder to see the numbers rise. However, I am just now at my all time highest weight and am almost in my 3rd trimester. :)

  • I started off at a normal weight & last week at my appointment (@25 weeks) I had gained 11 pounds total. Doc says I'm gaining good & growing good (measured my belly for the first time but didn't tell me the measurements). So I'm happy.
  • Just about 26 weeks and 16-17 lbs. Biggest gain was 5 months when i put on 6lbs. But its been very steady. Hoping to stay under 30!!

  • At my 24wk appointment I was up about 10 or so pounds.  I started out within the healthy range for my BMI, but at the very top of that!  I would have preferred to start out thinner.  However, that being said, I am very happy with my weight gain so far.  I expect the number will be a bit different at my next appointment (29wks), as my belly has FINALLY begun to pop.

  • I'm overweight and overall I am only up 2 lbs as of two weeks ago. For quite awhile I was losing weight even with no morning sickness and no change in my diet. I'm only supposed to gain 10-15 lbs and I'm right on track so far.

  • I started out at a normal BMI. I've gained 30 at 28.5 weeks with twins. I anticipate gaining 40-45 total. I have not been told an amount or range by any of my doctors. Yesterday the midwife said my "weight gain is beautiful". I had to laugh at that. It has been very steady the whole way through if that's what she meant about it being beautiful.

I am measuring at 34 weeks with a singleton according to my Dr. yesterday. Interesting to know this is where I would be with only 6 weeks to go with one.

  • I was overweight to begin with.  No one ever told me how much weight I was "supposed" to gain, but I lost 10 pounds in the first tri, now have gained that back plus 8.  So I only consider myself gaining 8 pounds which I think is pretty much a miracle.  The doc is fine with my weight progress.  It's pretty crazy because I swear I look like I have gained 100.

  • I was also normal to start.

At my 20 week appt, I was DOWN 18 lbs.

At my 24 week appt, I was still down, but only 11 lbs... so I've sort of gained 7 lbs.
