I'm not asking this as a joke. DH and I have talked about this often. I've read about massage and other techniques to stretch so I will be better prepared when the time comes. I do not want any tearing that will result in stitches.
sweetheart....just WOW!!! I suffered a fourth degree tear and had stitches I was in pain for a few weeks but you move on. Trust me during labor labor you just want a healthy baby. Obviously it didnt affect me much since I am expecting again. please stop having your husband stuff his fist up your vagina that's just disgusting.

Apparently I am the weirdo of the group, cause I have actually heard of using fisting to exercise your vaginal muscles in preparation for birth. Personally I don't plan on doing it, but it comes out of the same birth practices as orgasmic birth and other alternative birth methods.
And, really, is everyone really that ignorant about vaginal anatomy? Your muscles are made to stretch. Fisting isn't going to stretch your shit out, just like vaginal births don't permanently stretch a vagina. (Also, a fist is significantly smaller than the average newborn.)
Muscles naturally get weaker and looser as we age, which contributes to the myth of vaginal "looseness" due to promiscuity or childbirth. Immediately after birth your muscles are in recovery, but most women experience a return to comparable levels of "tightness". Additionally, some women may experience fatigued vaginal muscles due to multiple vaginal births, but the concept that the average woman has a "stretched" vagina due to sexual activity is a widespread and misinformed myth.
Whatever happened to @runningpenguin? I don't like when people just disappear from TB. I need closure. Now that I think of it...whatever happened to @closure17? WHERE HAS EVERYONE GONE?!

This is definitely one of my pet peeves. I get that everyone was having fun on the thread, but the whole concept of "looseness" due to sexual activity really pushes my buttons. It's a really sexist myth with a lot of judgmental baggage behind it.
I am being pretty dry in my humor in other threads today, but didn't feel too stabby. I can reel it in if it's coming off negative.

Yes, but the thread was unearthed because it is considered to be a classic "hilarious" newbie post. I just don't really find jokes about something so medically inaccurate and (IMO) sexist to be funny.

I actually agree, I feel myself going to a bad place on this topic.

Yes, people play with toys to help work themselves up to fisting. This is done for sexual pleasure and not in preparation for childbirth.
The vagina is lined with muscles so after they are stretched they return to their normal shape. So, if you stretch out your vagina with a dildo it will go back to normal. That is what is going on because you are not experiencing the physiological changes that occur during labor to allow the baby to pass.
By all means keep up the sex play if you and your partner enjoy it but it isn't necessary. Try some yoga and when you get pregnant try perineal massage as pp suggested.

Since we've been ttc I've become more worried about the actual birth experience. I know it's probably a while away since I'm not pregnant yet but the idea of all that stretching and tearing freaks me out. I've heard of some women trying to graduallyloosen things up downthere usingtoys andeventuallyfisting. DH and I had started this a little while ago but it seems to be taking forever to even notice any type of change. Is anyone else trying to prepare for birth already? If you are what are you doing so far?
This just made my day. I have never heard that. It freaks me out too, but I'm not about to start loosening sh*t up down there, and there is no fist going up my hoohoo.
I'm not going to let this happen to my hoohoo either, lol.
