  • Long shot - anyone here have essential tremors?

I was diagnosed a few years ago and this past week the severity has gone down SIGNIFICANTLY. Because it's all neuro I'm super fascinated - almost like the re-wiring/mapping of my brain since becoming pregnant has changed how my body is processing the tremors. I hadn't been diagnosed prior to my previous pregnancies so I have nothing to go off of, and not many people I know have ET to begin with, so I'm just curious!

  • Hi! I’ve had essential tremors for about 10 years now! I’ve been on propranolol for them and got off that medication since I found out I was pregnant. Praying my tremors stay manageable!

@knottie90af72ff37d47f3c wow, get out! I'm so happy to have found another ET mama on here!

My doc also prescribed me the same meds, they work pretty well in managing. I also stopped when I found out I was expecting, have you ever been cleared to take propranolol while pregnant?

Unfortunately once my nausea ramped up so did my tremors so it's almost worse than normal lol. I was so excited for a hot second.

  • I am only 5 weeks and 5 days so I have my first appointment next week! I’m hoping I can stay off the meds during pregnancy but I’m a nurse so it’s sometimes hard if my tremors are bad!
  • Hey ladies, there have been a ton of one-off posts recently with general questions on this board - as a gentle reminder, feel free to use *this* thread for any questions you have, so we can keep the forum clean!  <3

  • I know we’re all early in our pregnancy, but anyone here ever get prescribed progesterone ? ( for this pregnancy or earlier ones) this is my third pregnancy and I just got prescribed 100mg a day and I’m just in my head about it , never had to take it before, but then again I was in my 20’s my last two pregnancies
  • @knottief64f2391893e8bef first of all, please look at the thread on how to change your username. It's really hard to tag/identify knottie users. Second, yes, supplemental progesterone is standard in IVF/ART pregnancies, and is becoming more common for anyone who has had previous losses or has any spotting/bleeding, etc in first trimester. The good news is you probably won't be on it past 12weeks. Is it oral or a vaginal suppository? Supps are better than oral. I do intramuscular injections.

  • @knottief64f2391893e8bef yes I'm currently on 200mg suppository and I'm happy about it. I have a history of losses so hopefully this will help.
  • What do SAHMs do with their kids when you have doctors apts??

I am going to be having this problem a lot over the next 8 months! I have 2 kids (almost 3 and 1.5) and am about 8w along. My husband’s job doesn’t allow him to take time off to watch them while I’m at the doctor and we don’t have any family around to watch them either. Our typical babysitters have regular 9-5 jobs or are students so they can’t take off during the day either…

legit what am I supposed to do??
  • @knottie5a232a9d0958f120 - talk to your OB, maybe they will allow kids to come to some? I’m a SAHM and have kids the exact same age and I imagine I’ll be bringing the double stroller to a few appointments. Cue the madness. I’m also going to see if I can find a couple of new sitters that are available during the day.

Ah yeah I’m not sure what I’m going to do about appointments. My husband is able to stay home for the first appointment in a couple weeks. It’s super long lol. But after that he has to save his vacation and sick days. I’m going to ask what their policy is on that.
  • @knottie5a232a9d0958f120 I’m not a SAHM, but when daycare was closed on appointment days, I took my kids with me. I made sure I had snacks and quiet toys, and it went pretty well. I had the iPad packed for emergency rowdiness, but never had to use it.
  • I bring my kids with me too. Lots of snacks!! And a show on my phone if all else fails. I've had the double stroller at lots and lots of appts over the years!
  • To preface: I'm grateful that so far, I'm having a seemingly healthy pregnancy (to be confirmed next week hopefully).

But -- are any other STM (or FTM!) absolutely and completely terrified?? I remember feeling this way with my 2nd, but I am just so afraid of screwing everything up by bringing in another baby to our already well established dynamic, it's all I can think about. I'm feeling really guilty for not being more excited right now (or at all), although the raging symptoms are definitely not helping either.

my previous OB office didn’t allow children at all after 2020. Before I always brought my kids. I’m hoping this new office I switched to isn’t so strict with it.
  • @mrsmtothek This is our 4th, and I have been nervous each time we add a kid to the group. It has always gone extremely well. One thing I’ve done with each addition is told the (happy) baby “You have to wait until I finish with other kid.” It makes the older kid really happy and makes it seem more fair to them.
  • @mrsmtothek - 100% terrified. And 100% feeling guilty about not being more excited. I never really thought I'd be able to get pregnant again without intervention so we were super surprised. We also have a well established family dynamic. Adjustment is going to be hard, especially for the 13 year olds. I told DH this morning that I just want to keep this pregnancy to ourselves for as long as we can so we before everything becomes "real", if that makes sense.

  • Does anyone have advice for deciding whether to travel in the first trimester? I've been feeling so sick pretty much all day long for several weeks. I'm just about 8 weeks now and I have a conference for work I was planning to attend when I'm 10 weeks. As a first time mom, I'm just not sure what to expect. Will I be feeling even worse at 10 weeks?

I've talked to some coworkers and my acupuncturist and they told me to skip the conference. I'm the type of person that will just push through, but the idea of traveling and attending a classroom setting conference when I feel this bad has me feeling really anxious. I think the best thing would be to have a coworker go in my place, but it's a hard thing for me to let go of. I just don't want to regret not going, but maybe it's time to just let go of this opportunity. There's bound to be others in the future.
  • FTM…absolutely terrified! My husband is going to be deploying for a year in May. We planned this, and I’ve got a huge village, but still terrified!!
  • @jvbirdgirl traveling is fine… I just went on a vacation at 5w4d thru 6w3d (and flew). I actually felt better that week, but I was up and moving and not sitting at my desk all day. I also flew all the time when I was pregnant with my first. The question I’d ask yourself is how much of the conference will you be sitting? If sessions are hourly and then you get up and walk around and have a break, that may not be bad imo. But if the sessions are hours long and you need to sit for long periods with no breaks, that would seem harder to me. I hear you though, I wouldn’t want to miss a work opportunity myself either!
  • @makingbacon @UnwritteN12 @knottie6d1e87eaf4812b46 Thanks ladies - you made me feel not so alone!! <3

Hugs. My husband was deployed 20 days before my oldest was born almost 10 years ago. I’m so glad you have a huge village but there are still so many hard emotions that go with that 🤎
  • @jvbirdgirl I travel a fair amount for my job. Will you get anything out of the conference when you feel so poorly? I went to a work event (outdoors in the Midwest in June) during 1st trimester with my 3rd. I got a lot done, but was absolutely miserable with sickness in the heat. I knew where all the garbage cans were by the time we left because I had puked in all of them. If you want to skip it, and you have that option, give yourself some grace and not go. If you want to go, I recommend talking to your doctor about what you can do to help alleviate symptoms.
  • Thanks @knottied2a0d0cda91a02f3 and @makingbacon - This is really helpful. That sounds like a miserable trip @makingbacon, I commend you for doing that! I think you're right that it might not be worth it for me to go. While it will be inside, it's going to be so much sitting and some field trips on buses. I think the anxiety I have around going and feeling sick the whole time probably isn't worth pushing through. Thankfully, I have an awesome coworker that has agreed to go in my place, so I can just catch up with her when she returns.
  • Anyone ever fall down the stairs and land flat on their butt while early pregnant (8weeks)?? I missed a step in socks like an idiot and landed on my butt…no bleeding …bounced right back up didn’t even cry (huge for me!) I’m thinking it’s fine ..google says it’s fine that it takes a lot to hurt the baby but also today was just not my day …happy Friday 💜
  • @ally_smith2007 what advice do you need? Start taking a prenatal vitamin. There are many of them at the store look for ones that have omega 3 and DHA or folate. Other then that do you have someone close to you who can help or you trust?
  • I’m a school counselor and have helped many teens! Do you have a trusted adult you can talk to? Are you aware of your options?
  • I was I was taking a probiotic while I nursed DS3. It was something the lactation consultants recommended, and I’d planned on continuing. I am officially done pumping/nursing as of a couple weeks ago. Does anyone know how safe probiotics are during pregnancy? I stopped taking them for now, and I messaged my doctor, but she isn’t always the most prompt.
  • @makingbacon as far as I've read, probiotics are safe to take while pregnant.

  • I think there's going to be a small subset that can answer this question but has anyone here had a mammogram done while pregnant? I scheduled my first one prior to getting my BFP and it's this Friday. Which really stinks due to girls being sore. 😖

  • @UnwritteN12 I have not but personally I would reschedule unless you have a concern about something if so I would call the office and let them know.
  • Any tips for managing morning sickness that lasts 24/7? I feel miserable everyday especially at work leading meetings and pretending I don’t want to puke
  • @Luxurina you can ask your Dr for more advice but things that have helped me for my other pregnancies was vitamin B6 and unisom taken together, sea bands, preggie pops, and just sour candy in general.

Also just leaning into the cravings a bit. With my first McDonald’s fries were the only thing that didn’t make me puke and with my second it was spaghetti os and canned fruit. It’s a relatively short time so don’t beat yourself up if it’s not the healthiest. My dr said any food is better than no food!

  • First time pregnancy here! I’m prone to overthinking, especially in regards to health, but what has been everyone’s experience with cramps during the first few weeks? I know it’s normal to cramp as long as it’s not severe and there’s no bleeding, but I think it would make me feel better if I knew I wasn’t alone in this.
Im 5w2d, and my cramps aren’t bad at all. Mostly just a dull ache in my pelvic area, and I’ll occasionally get a more intense feeling that lasts a few seconds.
  • @alliegato920 I have cramps this go around - sound pretty similar to yours, they've eased up this week (8w), but had none with my first two pregnancies! Pregnancies so strange.
    Third kid: Due 11/6
    Second kid: Dec 2021
    First kid: Sept 2019
  • @alliegato920 - Around 6 weeks I was laid up on the couch all day because I was so uncomfortable from cramping. But I had really no issues with my first 2 pregnancies. It's normal but I get the worry. It's hard not worry sometimes.

@alliegato920 I have cramps the first little bit. They usually ease up around week 6. They feel like period cramps for me. Now it’s just relentless nausea 🫠
  • @alliegato920 I definitely have had cramps off and on ever since I found out. *TW* spotting - as long as they're not associated with bleeding, I think you're fine! Everything is stretching out for baby. Super fun :s
