Like Kboyd said, just a blood draw. They figured out that some of the fetus blood leaks into moms blood so they take your blood and separate out the fetal DNA and test it to see if there are markers for genetic abnormalities. C'est ça =)

  • @jayc21 if you’re having a genetic counseling appointment  they’ll go over the details of the ultrasound and NIpT it’s pretty standard these days if you’re 35 or older.   Like kboydbowman said it’s just a blood draw from your arm so no risk to the baby. Your blood has some of the baby’s blood in it so they can tell the babies chromosomes -which can tell you sex if you want to know, but the reason they do it is to check for chromosome abnormalities like Down syndrome and two other abnormalities that are more rare and  also more serious .    They send it away the lab, it takes about a week and then the genetic counselor  will call and tell you the results that you requested which will not included sex chromosomes if you do not want to know.
If there is the a very rare abnormality they can do further testing to confirm so you are well informed about the pregnancy.

Having one on Tuesday and it's my first time for it but what's the NIPT like and how long does it take before I get the results back? My older two are 20 and 11, so I didn't have to think about a lot of the procedures then that I have to at this point. I know that I am going to have to repeatedly tell them that I do NOT want to see the gender in that report!
Fwiw, you don’t have to have the NIPT done if you don’t want to.
  • Couple of questions…

anyone having problems with the app? My never shows new post in any boards but if I click on one there is plenty of new post???

Second anyone understand ultrasound pictures and all the details on them? I went Thursday the 28th to my appointment and the dr says I am 11 and a half weeks (as if thursday) but the ultrasound show GW 15w4d but the ultrasound I had on April 13th the GW was 9w3d.
  • @baby-h2022 that ultrasound thing seems confusing. Mine usually say consistent weeks.  If I were you I’d message your doctor to ask about it.
I’m curious why they’re so different
  • @baby-h2022 the app is a mess on Android sometimes, it likes to log me out randomly.

The app is awful! It’s barely improved since 2015 when I jumped on here.

Your due date is determined by the dating scan, but the gestational age on the scan that you see is calculated by LMP. Ovulation probably just happened later than the text book 2 week mark! I ovulate super late, my cycles are really wonky. My gestational age on my first scan was 11 weeks, but the measurements showed 8 weeks, which matched my positive OPK and cross hairs on my BTT chart. Still call your office and ask, but that’s what the discrepancy usually is

Is anyone taking Endometrin (progesterone) suppositories and Metformin through their first tri?  My OB just told me that I could stop taking both (I am currently 11 weeks...).  Was prescribed Metformin in May of 2021 for PCOS and continued to take it through our 3 IUI cycles and now through this pregnancy.
  • @cbdubs I am progesterone suppositories I am 12+1 my dr told me last week to stop taking it when I am 12+5
Friday night will be my last one and I cannot wait!
  • I'm on progesterone for this pregnancy and I also took it for my last pregnancy. I stopped at 12 weeks both times. The progesterone is not generally helpful after the placenta starts taking over.

  • @mflowers929 does the constipation ease up after you stop progesterone?
  • @baby-h2022 ehhh, I don't have too much trouble with constipation generally speaking, but unfortunately it doesn't really change, because instead of taking progesterone the placenta starts producing it, and considering that it's in the same area as the colon it makes it really easy to affect it. Sorry if that's not the answer you were looking for 😅 we were discussing constipation in this thread if it helps!

  • Hi all I'm pretty new to this board and looking for support. I am 11 weeks and the morning sickness and fatigue has gotten worse the past 2 weeks. This is making me feel sad on a daily basis, any advice?
  • @deicym508 chat with your doctor and they will have medicine or solutions based on how bad it is.

    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • @deicym508 I struggled with depression when I was feeling so horrible every day all day. I’m sorry you are going this, and must be upsetting to only be getting worse recently. I echo what the other poster said, you have to keep pushing the doctor to find a solution that works for you. 9 months isn’t forever but too long to be miserable when there is likely a solution out there. Also, meditation helped me. Tap into whatever it is that centers you to focus on the things you are grateful for. ❤️

  • I see a lot of people talking about their NT scan. Is this routine for your office? This is my third pregnancy and it has never been offered to me. I’m really just curious! I don’t have any known risk factored so I assume that’s why

@Gingermom15 It's something offered here if you're going to be 35 or older at the time of birth. This is my first pregnancy with it because I was 30 and 32 with the other two lol

Never been offered and never asked.
  • How long did it take for the panorama results for this who have had it? I’m not in a hurry to find out the sex, but I’m anxious to know the baby is healthy
  • @Gingermom15 I got mine about a week and a half after the test.
  • @ashnicell thank you! Somehow my anxiety during this pregnancy is way worse than with my first two. I just want to know everything is healthy
  • Question- has anyone else had issues with arms "falling asleep" while you sleep?  This has never happened to me before and it seems so random and weird.  It doesn't matter what side I sleep on or how many pillows (I even got a pregnancy pillow to try sleeping with) I sleep with, my left arm goes numb and tingly almost every night.  Now my right arm has started doing it too the last week.  I'm 12 weeks 4 days if that means anything for this ransom one, LOL!
  • Mine tingle at night a lot and I have had my feet go numb and tingle too for no reason at all.

Question for you all! I had my NIPT blood draw at exactly 10 weeks, and just got a “no result” due to low fetal fraction. Has anyone else experienced this? I am overweight, which I know increases the likelihood of this result, but of course I also Googled it and saw that it could also be a sign of complications/abnormalities. Kind of freaking out a bit. The labcorp description says you can get NIPT at 9 weeks, and my DR. said it’s ok to do at 10 weeks, but wondering if I just did it too soon since I’m overweight? Just so much anxiety since I haven’t seen the baby since my last appt at 6.5 weeks and worried something is wrong. :/
  • I bet it was just too early. I wasn’t allowed to schedule the blood draw until 10 weeks and 4 days.
  • @cobebe my OB won’t draw it until 12 weeks because she said she was having a lot of LFF results! I would just have it drawn again.

@knottie47b76bd41238dc1f & @Gingermom15 Thank you for the reassurance! I think I will try again at 12 weeks.
  • My office waits until closer to 12 weeks as well to draw
  • My OB wanted me to wait until definitely after 12 weeks, closer to 13 if possible because I have a high BMI which can make it harder to isolate enough fetal dna apparently. We scheduled mine for tomorrow (12w4d) because I'm getting my NT ultrasound then since that's when the MFM specialist is available (I'm higher risk due to BMI and fertility treatments).
  • In case anyone’s curious I got the NIPT blood test results back (via doctor call) 8 calendar days after Natera received it. The website for some reason says the test is still in progress.

If anybody is looking for a Snoo, they’re on sale today only for 20% off, and you can get an extra $20 off with code “SAVE20SMS” at checkout. Not affiliated in any way, just know I wanted one but couldn’t justify the $$$ lol.

  • I know this is a long shot. But has anyone had a Chiari Decompression (brain surgery to remove the “tail” of the brain from blocking the spinal column)? I had one in 2015. Just wondering if anyone else has had this done and then had a baby afterwards?

If you Google it, it seems like plenty of women have, but this reeeeeaaally seems like something you should ask your medical providers about if you have concerns, not strangers on the internet.
  • I have talked to all of my health care providers about it I was just wondering if there was anyone on here. I don’t have a lot of concerns about it was just wondering.

I got mine last night.  Blood draw was 7 days ago.
Does anyone know how Natera results work?  Is it like a scale of low to high risk?  I just got a message from my Dr that results are in, hoping to know what to expect when I get the results this afternoon.
  • @themrsjacoby The MFM specialist at lt hospital explained it to us that there's 4 possible results:
    -low risk
-high risk, which doesn't mean a diagnosis, but an elevated risk that you may want to speak with your provider about getting a diagnostic test like amniocentesis
-low fetal fraction, which means there wasn't enough fetal dna extactable and usually just means the test needs to be redrawn because it was done too early (more likely to happen in women with higher BMIs like myself)
-"weird" as he put it, which could be anything from lab error to contaminated sample to not a typical low result but not quite high, etc. He said this wouldn't necessarily warrant a diagnostic test but it would definitely be something to discuss with your provider
  • Wanted to see if anyones had this symptom: I’m in 14th week and the other day I started getting short jolts of pain in my vagina. Only lasted a second at a time but it kept happening multiple times over a couple minutes. Does this sound like lightning crotch or is it too early for that? Should I get checked to make sure everything’s alright?
  • @manamo777 I've not had lightening crotch yet but it's very common! I've had it later on with both my other kids. I would contact your provider if it's worrying you or seems off but I'm sure it's normal.
  • @manamo777 I have that too. My PT said it could be a pelvic floor issue and is having me do a pelvic floor exam in a week and a half.
