I weighed myself this morning for the first time in several weeks. I’ve been avoiding the scale because I always gain at least 10 lbs in first tri and I’ve been feeling large lately but I was shocked to see I haven’t gained anything since I last checked. I really don’t know how that’s possible because I eat constantly.

@fromfurmomtobabymom8-2 I had a parenting work group like that at my last job, specifically for mom's. Pre-covid we would get together every few months, chat and each lunch. It was so nice!
@coco2787 +1 for gaining a lot of weight the first trimester and avoiding the scale. I won't weigh myself. I'm not overeating, and overall attempting to eat on the healthy side, but I tend to gain weight very easily while pregnant. I feel like it would be unhealthy from my mental health stand point to weigh myself.
Forgot to mention that at my appointment, my BP was 148/90 again. Mentioned to my OB about my headaches and she told me I’ll almost certainly have to be induced again. Which I already kind of knew based on history. Heyoh more July birthdays here.
@leahrnmom Sorry you're feeling anxious about your decision. You did what you thought was best for your daughter, and that's all we can do as parents! I don't blame you for your decision, especially since, according to the dentist she'd have the caps for years. Rest assured that you were choosing what you thought was best for her!
@wisewitch222 Covid is so tough, all aspects of it. I understand your hesitation and worry about the school cutting masks. There's so much to worry about out there. I hope he stays safe!
@fuzzywombat I saw them! She's definitely a warrior, and I love how honest and transparent they are. So happy for Kristen too
@coco2787 Glad the scale was in your favor today! I do know that eating frequently helps your metabolism, so maybe that's what's happening haha.
@fromfurmomtobabymom8-2 I didn't know those groups existed but sound very fun! It's so refreshing to vent every now and then and interact with other people/moms.
@and_peggy is there something your OB can do to help your BP to keep it in a better range?
@wisewitch222 I’m sorry that happened so abruptly. I think it’s coming here in March and I’m nervous. Not only about COVID, but the quarantines, and my son has barely been sick this year compared to pre-mask days. FYI If you’re looking for authentic Kn95s for littles, my 3yo wears one from Project N95.
@fromfurmomtobabymom8-2 That sounds amazing. I’m one of a handful of parents in my company, it would be great to have coworkers who understand the juggling act we do.
@lmaplejc You know, what you said reminded me that I still have some of this filter liner stuff that auto mechanics use that I had been wearing in my homemade masks during the beta surge before vaccines last winter. I think some of #2's cloth masks have space for a liner so I can just use that.
Update from today: preschool teachers were still wearing masks and mask usage as at 90% among kids in his room today (it was like 40% in my first grader's room), so I'm thinking other preschool parents are feeling the same way. I will try to be less nervous and find those filter liners.
@wisewitch222 I would feel the same as you. My daughter is in preschool and they haven't mentioned no mandatory masks but if that comes I will not be thrilled. Here is the thing, alot of the parents don't seem to keep the kids home when they're having cold symptoms so it's hard to trust that covid won't get passed around.
@wisewitch222 that's really great that most of the preschool teachers and kids are still masking despite no more mandate! I have similar concerns to you. Mostly that if DS is exposed, he is out of school for 2 weeks (even if he tests negative). While it isn't his primary care, it is still frustrating for us & DS. Last time he cried after being out of the classroom for several days. He really loves his class.
@dimeadozen I’m already doing all the pre-e preventative protocols. But the aspirin isn’t going to lower my blood pressure, just hopefully keep me from having full blow pre-e.
@mdfarmchick it feels ridiculous. Daughter is May. And then our poor middle child is in the middle of the ocean 😆 he’s in January. Maybe that will help make him feel more special.
@and_peggy That’s a lot of birthdays! Out of 5 kids in my family, the three middle sisters, including myself, have birthdays all 4 days apart from each other in April.😅 My parents just did cake & ice cream, pick a movie, and the day off from homeschool (which was scheduled at the beginning of the year.) My mom wasn’t into doing a lot for gifts, but we each got our own day and cake.
My husband and both of our moms have December birthdays, so with those and Christmas, I think that was the only month I’d really rather not have a baby. It would be hard to host a little birthday party in that timeframe!😅 It would be of planning with the big family Christmases too!
I hope the birth and timing is ideal and that you and baby stay really healthy and that risks lessen.💕
I feel like I'm just done with everyone this week. I've reached my BS tolerance threshold. The students at my school are wild. (I know this is everywhere.) People are just irking my soul.
ETA: I finally got my bloodwork back and my thyroid is so out of whack that they put me back on meds 2 days ago. Earliest appointment I can get with endocrinology is March 15, but I'll take it!
When my oldest was born, I got her a sapphire ring. My second was supposed to be a January baby but came in September, too, so she got another sapphire ring but a different style. This one is supposed to come in July per docs orders (same as @and_peggy) so it will be a cancer baby, same as MH.
We just got back from two days of five doctor's appointments with all of DD2's specialists. We go to a specific children's hospital out of state because that's where she spent the majority of her NICU time (our local NICU is great but did not have a pediatric surgeon on staff and we needed to be near a surgeon in case she needed interventions...luckily she never did but we were grateful to be in such a renowned hospital).
Anywho...she got her official cerebral palsy diagnosis (yay!) and referrals to a developmental pediatrician (who should've been following her since discharge but at least we'll get her evaluated now) and endocrinologist for growth (she's 3 but wears 24 months clothes though she's very proportional and a good weight). Everything went well and we are exhausted. Finally back home and just gonna take a relaxing weekend to recover.
My parents came from CA to spend time with us and take DD1 while we spend hours and hours at the appointments. She got to do the aquarium and a kids play place called Kid's Empire. It was great having them, otherwise she would've been SO bored.
We LOVE all her doctors and love going back to her hospital. We're lucky to have fond memories of our time there, they are so compassionate and wonderful. Benefits of a children's hospital...everything is for the kids comfort and enjoyment! She got so many free toys and stuffies
@starkette thank you so much for updating us. I've been thinking of you and your family, knowing you had these appointments. I'm so glad you finally got the diagnosis you need in order to have the proper services for your DD. 💕
@wigglyicecream between 36-37 weeks and since my due date 8/7 that lands me in mid-July. It's mostly bc of my classical c-section incision and the risk of uterine abruption if I grow too large.
@starkette I’m so glad you and your family got through the appointments and they were as painless as possible for the whole family. Thank good for grandparents so DD1 got to have fun and for compassionate drs, and for DD2 to finally have a diagnosis so you can receive proper support for you. Sending you and your whole family relaxing vibes
@starkette I’m glad your appointments went well! I do occupational therapy and see several clients with CP and it’s truly amazing how far technology and therapies have come. The people I see all live independently with support and many of them have jobs, degrees, spouses, you name it. I bet it will be amazing to watch her continued growth 🥰

@starkette same concern here for the uterine rupture. Mine bc of the coronal ectopic rupture. My due date is a few days after you which puts me mid to late July depending on the official date we decide to deliver me
@starkette that is the best update! I’ve been thinking of you over the past few days and I am so glad that you guys had a good report and solid support. ♥️
I went and dropped off DD’s old clothes to a friend last Sunday and as luck would have it both of her kids have tested positive for COVID. 🙃 I was only in the house for maybe 5-10 mins and didn’t have any actual contact with the kids but now I’m nervous of course
@wigglyicecream don’t panic!! I hope you’re in the clear! ETA: purely anecdotal but my mil was around my boys on the day I tested positive but they were negative then. She never got covid from that encounter. So as long as mom wasn’t positive, you’re likely in the clear.
ugh. It’s been 54 the last 2 days and the 2+ feet of snow we had all melted. Yesterday it rained all day. Last night it dropped to 18 and everything froze. And now it’s snowed another 4-5 inches. Enough is enough already. Best of all is apparently the plows aren’t running anymore. Or something. The roads are literally terrible. Thank goodness for 4wheel drive but I literally passed 3 accidents on my way to drop ds1 off at school a mile away.
@paytonpedro mom said her symptoms started on Wednesday and they have cold like symptoms and are super tired. I saw them on Sunday so I’m hoping that cdc knows what they are talking about bc if so then I’m in the clear 🤞🏼 I feel pretty normal with the exception of sneezing more which is typical for this time of year
@paytonpedro See, I was happy they deleted all the old, icky snow and we got a layer of fresh to play in! My #2 is super excited, and it's early dismissal today so there will be some definite snow playing.
@wisewitch222 I mean it’s a lot prettier, that’s for sure. Especially because the old snow definitely turned to that hard snow/ice. But I’m just so ready for spring! Lol.
ETA ohhhhh we finally got a plow at 9:45am. After the time everyone who would need to be on the road has already left their houses. Yay. 😑
I'm not even sure if we'll have been plowed by the time we get home at 12:30. We live on a residential side street that's usually one of the last in the city to get plowed. But we have an AWD vehicle, and all the main roads we needed to get to school/work today were fine by 7am when we left, so nbd. And right now it's coming down like a snowglobe and it just brightens my whole day.
@paytonpedro also so over it! Our poor puppy Cora has been struggling with potty training because of this weather. With the ice, she was slipping and sliding all over the place when she would squat, so she opted to go inside instead... And then we got that rain, and she likes to find a dry place to go, so yet another setback. Don't get a puppy in the winter is what I'm learning from this experience.
@wisewitch222 I completely understand your masking concerns. My school abruptly ended it on Wednesday and not one student in my classroom wore a mask, even though I know only 3 are fully vaccinated. Well...one tested positive yesterday and now I have 5 students who are awaiting tests. When, I've only had 3 test positive all school year (after traveling/vacations). I feel like it was too soon as well.
ETA to add my another reply - catching up is hard.
@coco2787 I did the same thing with weighing myself this morning and I was shocked. I figured I wanted to know before I went to the Dr. today and saw the completely inaccurate number there! They don't even have me take my coat off and then give me a nice overweight BMI pamplet... I have a completely normal BMI when I'm not wearing 5lbs of clothes! Being short and tiny, 5 lbs. is A LOT. But also, why do they still have BMI ratings for pregnant women????
@fromfurmomtobabymom8-2 my first dog I got as a puppy in the winter. He weighed 2lbs and didn’t go to the bathroom outside until after all the snow melted! He puppy pad trained pretty easily, so maybe get some of those and put them by the door? I remember the first time he pooped outside was on a walk and I literally started cheering!! So loud so that it scared him and he stopped going. 😑🤣🤣
@paytonpedro she's actually been really good for a 4 month old, just took a slight step back this week. My husband would never go for the puppy pads, not sure I would either, other than the fact that I was useless when it was icy and refused to go outside with all the ice (thankfully his parents took my side and told him I wasn't allowed to). Before this, she had gone weeks without an accident, which was awesome! Hoping we can get back on a long streak again. Husband is also crazy in thinking we will be getting another one this year, and I keep telling him we need to wait. Cora could definitely use a furry sibling, but I think our hands will be quite full once August rolls around with a puppy under 1 and a newborn. While on the topic - seeking advice for handling puppies and babies. My one friend had her parents puppy sit for the first few weeks, so that might be a good idea.
@brittanynmorris I'm so sorry - that is such crap. If something like that happens in #1s class he won't have to test unless he has symptoms, but if #2 is exposed it's automatic 10 day quarantine and I'm going to be PISSED. Haven't they learned the pandemic lesson not to mess with school???
