@buffythevampireslayer my grandmother comissioned custom zodiac necklaces for each of her granddaughters. I love my necklace although for me it has always been more sentimental as I don't wear big jewelry. I love the idea of giving my daughter something like this one day too. Pic in spoiler.
The front is my zodiac (I'm also a Leo). On the back is my date of birth inscribed.
@darkrose88 How special, and beautiful!! I love the contrast between the black and jeweled side.
We have two daughters (3 & 1) At birth we bought them both a pearl necklace and took their newborns with them. Our idea is to keep them and give them to them for their wedding as their "something old." and a sweet sentiment that they already have an heirloom. My first delivery was 21 hours and ended up in an emergency c-section because she wouldn't come down. My husband didn't know that some doctors take all the mom's insides out... lol... so when he walked around to see DD1 he glanced over and go an eyeful. After we got back to the room I fell asleep. When I woke up he wasn't in the room. Fell asleep again and woke up to him handing me my own pearl necklace. He was scarred, went to the jeweler. He said he realized moms really GO THROUGH IT to birth children and he could never appreciate me enough for that. Sorry for that word vomit.
I have earrings of my kids' birth stones that I wear a lot during their birth months. I'm so excited this one will be peridot, since that's my favorite gem/color anyway and I already have two pairs of earrings and a necklace. Since we'll be done after this I might get (or ask my husband for) a necklace with all three. The other two are diamond and aquamarine.
Re: zodiac - yep, up through 8/22 those babies are Leos, and then 8/23 Virgo takes over (I’m a Virgo with a Leo brother. I remember thinking it was unfair he got the Cool Lion when I just got the stupid girl in a dress 😂).
I love the idea of getting a pearl necklace for a daughter when they’re born and putting it up for them! That’s so precious.
I have two Leos and this baby is due the 22nd. I love my kids but I really don’t want another Leo 😂

@dimeadozen aww to the tradition and aww to the pearl necklace birth story. ♥️♥️♥️
As for all of the necklaces… my favorite necklace is one with all my babies birthstones ((including my angel babies)). It’s a raw gemstone necklace and @and_peggy it may help you feel less like Christmas colors. The colors are much darker than a polished stone.
I'm having alot of anxiety today. My daughter is getting crowns put on tomorrow. They gave us the option of doing silver crowns and getting laughing gas, sedation and laughing gas and trying for ceramic and if she can't sit still enough doing silver, or having her intubated and this done at a surgery center and getting ceramic. We chose to try for ceramic with sedation and the laughing gas. I worry we made the wrong choice and should have gone right for silver but they say that these teeth will be there until she is 16 at least. I worry about her getting made fun of. Ugh parenting is hard. I'm so anxious. Thanks for listening.
@leahrnmom I’m sure it doesn’t feel like it but you made the best decision you could at the time. Which teeth need the crowns? I hear you on the anxiety front, I had a day full of crying and I almost never cry.
@dimeadozen thank you! The lightning in the room was poor - it is actually a gold base, and then silver on one side and diamond gems on the other. It really is quite stunning.
@lmaplejc thank you! I feel so lucky that my grandmother was so thoughtful and gifted it to me and my cousins. It'll be so wonderful to pass down one day to my daughter.
@leahrnmom I'm so sorry you're dealing with some major anxiety right now. Those kinds of medical decisions for your kids are so hard! You made the right choice - trust your Mom gut!
My kids' school abruptly ended their mask mandate yesterday after school, effective immediately. I know community transmission isn't bad right now, but my preschooler isn't vaccinated, and I'm just 😬
@wisewitch222 in my area the kids still have to wear masks but they’re saying almost all cases that are “in schools” were not contracted in the school itself. My son has had multiple kids out at any given time, and even with a mask has managed to get every single virus that went through his class. 8 to be exact. But, got covid from mh & I and not at school.
@paytonpedro I know, and that's what's been so wonderful. No one got covid at school because they all wore masks. Now, though... I'm just gritting my teeth for a spring full of 10-day quarantines while I wait on Moderna's trial data for the preschool vaccine.
@wisewitch222 it actually feels like we’ve hit the peak. Covid is always going to be a thing, it’s just getting us to a point where we trend down in severity, which does seem to be the way we are heading.
@wisewitch222 But I’m saying I dont think masks made much of a difference at schools. Transmission was lower than viruses like the stomach bug ds1 had twice and the slew of other respiratory viruses he had. If he was going to get covid at school, he would have gotten it. Mask or not.
ETA you can definitely still send your kiddo with a mask. Just because they’re not mandatory doesn’t mean they’re not allowed.
@and_peggy@paytonpedro To be clear I am not worried about my vaccinated first-grader. I am not afraid of covid. But I think my concerns are valid. My preschooler isn't vaccinated, which means he still has to quarantine for the full 10 days if he is exposed, which is much more likely than him getting MIS-C or long covid or something horrible I really, really hope he can avoid. But he goes to a school that is PK-8 and the majority of students still aren't vaccinated. I think the decision is definitely premature for a PRESCHOOL in which my student is still INELIGIBLE for vaccination. It's not like I chose to not vaccinate him.
And, @paytonpedro the mask isn't going to protect him if he's the only one wearing it. They don't make KN95s that tiny, and cloth masks only work if most people wear them, by keeping the room safe.
@wisewitch222 hey we’re not saying your opinions are valid. I was just saying thankfully it seems to be going in the right direction. Do whatever feels right for you, masking or not.
@itsme215 I'm pulling for Moderna right now! I hope there's a shot for him in April! Poor guy feels so left out and is actually worried about catching covid, even though the odds of it being bad for him are super low, and I tell him that. A three-year-old shouldn't have to worry about this.
Does anyone else have a parents work group? I just joined ours yesterday, called New Parents Caffeinated. They meet once a month and just vent to each other, tell stories, and share pictures. Seemed like a fun way to spend my lunch yesterday, and it was nice to talk casually with people at work rather than work related things. Even though I have physically gone to work throughout this whole thing, the pandemic has me feeling very isolated anymore, so this lunch hour session was a refreshing change for me. Plus this group has helped made significant improvements to our lactation rooms in the last few years!
