What my pregnant self is eating

Re: What my pregnant self is eating

  • @emeraldduchess mine came from a local company - Lancaster Hummus. It looks like they only sell locally though 😣
  • Loading the player...
  • @krash_ I regularly eat pretzels and cream cheese! It’s one of my favorite snacks...I’ve done it since high school!
  • Nausea hitting hard today. Currently nibbling tortilla chips at 10am with a cup of morning sickness tea beside me. Apparently hitting the 6 week mark was a hard line to cross for this pregnancy.
  • @whatabout2ndbreakfast bummer! We have some interesting flavors at my local grocery store but they're national brands (Tribe, Sabra, etc.). Last time I looked they had salted caramel  and peanut butter flavors. Not sure I am that adventurous!

  • Anyone have any good suggestions for quick/easy dinners? I normally love cooking but now I’m having days where I’m just too tired. My husband can cook, but doesn’t finish work until 6:30, so I usually make dinner so we can eat at a reasonable hour. It’s been a lot of pasta and jar sauce lately and I’m looking for better options!
  • @sawasap I'm going to chime in here as a new cook, easy is my go to.

Taco, nachos and quesadillas are all super quick and easy.

Curries are pretty simple especially if you get the jarred curry paste.

    Homemade burgers.

    Macaroni and cheese.

Chicken Caesar salads, or any salad with grilled chicken on it.
  • I haven't really had any issues foodwise yet. I didn't have any nausea or ms until 9w with my 11mo but then I survived on Mac n cheese and craved bean burritos from taco bell lol
I started watching my calories on new years to try and lose weight as I'm heavily overweight so I'm just trying to keep it all as healthy as possible until the crazy kicks in
  • @sawasap I have a recipe for sheet pan chicken that is pretty good. I make it a lot and it's quick prep and cleanup!

  • I’ve been having cottage cheese every morning for a protein-filled no-hassle breakfast. I’m interested in having something else every once in a while. What are you guys having for breakfast?
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @williams-jen I alternate between oatmeal and eggs. I’m pretty sure I’m breaking food rules by eating my eggs runny but it’s so delicious! I’m still nursing so I eat a lot of oatmeal to help keep my milk supply up. Plus, it does help settle my stomach in the mornings. I can’t do cottage cheese even when I’m not pregnant. The texture and smell are too much. Same goes for yogurt, the smell makes me sick even when I’m not pregnant.

After reading through this thread I really want a salad. I’m struggling to get protein in except for eggs in the morning. I ended up having them for lunch the other day too. The last 2 days I ate broiled sliced sweet potatoes and sliced tomatoes with salt. I tend to need more starches in the first trimester so I want to keep it healthier and not eat all the white potatoes sold in the local grocery store.
  • @williams-jen today I had 2 breakfast burritos.  Just eggs, cheese and salsa on a tortilla.

  • The kids wanted to make brownies so trying not to eat the whole pan 😂

I’ve been doing baked oatmeal or English muffin egg sandwiches. If I’m at work the cook will usually make me an omelet 😂

@JustAnotherUsername16 I just ordered a steak through Uber eats and for both sides got Caesar salad. I ordered the same thing the other night but only one Caesar salad and regretted not having more.
To put this in perspective, I literally never eat either of these things (steak or Caesar salad). But the heart wants what it wants.

Also don’t stone me, but I’ve eaten sushi yesterday and today. I am so picky right now, I can usually only think of one single thing that sounds remotely appetizing per meal and am burning all my money to make it happen. Everything else makes me gag.
And every time I get hungry I want to puke. Miserable.

Does anyone know if peppermint tea is safe during first tri? There is so much conflicting info out there, especially with herbal teas. I've read some articles saying it's fine and can help with nausea, and others saying it's not ok in first tri. I thought I would ask here in case anyone has heard anything definite from their OB.
ETA: I just mixed some orange juice with grapefruit seltzer and it's SO good.
  • @williams-jen my breakfast go to’s are eggs, toast with almond butter apples and sprinkled with pie spice, yogurt granola and berries, or breakfast sandwiches.

@agea I have been craving sushi too. I think it’s because I’m not supposed to have it, I want it that much more. I’m mostly nauseous in the evening and with dinner so even if I was going to break a rule I don’t think sushi would sit well.

@emeraldduchess I think a lot of the herbal tea stuff is more of a CYA thing. I know you’re supposed to stay away from chicory root in teas and red raspberry leaf can cause contractions so it’s great for inducing labor but not in first trimester. Peppermint is probably safe.

Dinner is a real struggle around here. Tonight I almost gagged on a Brussels sprout. I’m most nauseous in the evening so nothing sounds good and whatever I do eat makes me feel sick. Tonight I ended up having saltines and of course had to share with the toddler so he mostly had saltines for dinner too.

  • @agea we had sushi the other day.  I'd be lying it I said it wasn't the best sushi I'd ever had.
  • @agea I have been told as long as it’s a place you have frequently eaten at and never gotten sick that it’s ok. I wouldn’t go eat a bunch of grocery store sushi but my favorite sushi restaurant will still get my business. They know our order when we call. 😆

@emeraldduchess  I’m not sure about peppermint tea. I’m always nursing when pregnant so I can’t have it.

I am definitely having a difficult time finding food that I can actually eat. Today the only thing that sounded good was sautéed shrimp, avocado, and deviled eggs. I boiled the eggs and I plan to have deviled eggs for my snack today. I’m going to do my best to eat the leftovers from last night for dinner. I have wasted so much food because I can’t eat it again. I need to start planning meals with protein from other sources than meat.
  • My pregnant self wants to eat nothing. Nothing sounds appetizing this week, and my nausea has been an all day affair for several days now. So I am really struggling, especially with protein. Oatmeal is working okay in the morning, but I'm only eating because I have to lol other than that my usual favourites aren't appealing these days.

@krash_ The struggle of "not allowed to eat it so I want it more" is so real. I hate that deli meats are off limits (unless you microwave until steaming) and have already forgotten that rule twice. My last pregnancy I regularly bitched about just wanting a damn turkey sub and I'm guessing my husband has another 8 months of hearing that again this time lol

@emeraldduchess I want mint tea for my stomach, but mint is making me gag lately. Like even toothpaste is disgusting to me. Wtf.

  • I with those on the nothing sounds good.

I’m finally recovered and feeling better from covid but I’m not sure if everything tastes 💯 normal yet.

I grabbed Mediterranean chicken breast, rice abd hummus as my first meal and it was AMAZING! Sooo good and hit the spot, I ate my leftovers for breakfast.

the other thing that keeps calling me is avocado- so avocado toast is going to be my go to with everything but the bagel seasoning.

LUNCH - what are you eating? I can’t figure out what to eat for lunch!
  • raw mango dip in anchovies
  • @stacemom now that is a pregnancy food combo if I ever saw one.
  • @lmcw Nothing sounds good over here too. I would like nothing more than to be able to just not eat anything, but unfortunately that makes it worse! This morning I've been nibbling tortilla chips for hours, but I still felt awful, and my son's crackers smelled HORRIBLE. Then I thought of a cinnamon bagel, that actually sounded good, and bagels are the key to my son's heart, so we just got bagels. I feel a little better now. I wish that meant I didn't have to eat later, though. Every time I start to feel fine, it's just completely ruined by the thought of having to figure out what to eat again in a few hours.
  • @lmcw deli meats are my biggest pregnancy craving too! Last time I broke down and started eating it in 3rd trimester. Now that I’m thinking about it that’s all I want for lunch today...
  • @arrowmama avocado toast with everything but the bagel seasoning is always my go to! I also sometimes add a softboiled egg on top!
  • @agea I am the sammmmme way. With DD I never had any cravings but struggled to keep down anything with the MS until they stated my on anti-nausea meds at the end of the first tri. This time around I am holding down food MUCH better, but I have a million food aversions. I only have a few cravings, but I rarely see them coming and a craving can easily become an aversion if I don't feed it ASAP.

If I don't eat quickly enough, I get sick. If I eat too much, I get sick. DH has picked up all the cooking and I feel awful that I am so picky, but on the rare occasion that he somehow nails my current craving, I just want to eat it ALL.
  • I’ve been craving Mac n cheese and applesauce mixed together 🤣
  • edited January 2021
@ladylynn222 That would be total comfort food for me, I used to eat it all the time when I was little!

    Edit: spelling
  • Currently "eating" lemonade and a strawberry banana smoothie for lunch. I also got tomato soup and a grilled cheese, but not sure I can do that. Ugh.
  • I had an English muffin with avocado, mixed nuts, and a chese stick for lunch. I have some diced mango still in my lunch bag but I don't know if I will eat it. Thinking about it is making me gag.

  • @Aerialmrs That's just it, I think of something to eat that goes down fine and I'm pleased, but then I know I'll just have to go through the same "what am I going to eat now?" in a few hours!
  • @ladylynn222 Kraft is releasing a pink colored mac and cheese for Valentines Day that supposedly tastes like pink starburst. Your post reminded me of that lol.

Everything here yes. Feeding myself is a full time chore and a heavy mental load. I hate eating right now but must for fear of the nausea repercussions. As soon as I finish one thing I have to think of the next.

Yes to this too. I finally think of something to eat but if I eat too much of it, I get sick. If I don’t eat it soon enough, sick. If I don’t make enough, need more. I repeat too many times, instant aversion list. So picky. So fickle. So annoying.
  • @JustAnotherUsername16 Omg that sounds so good! 🤣🤣 I bet my four year old would love it too lol
  • @runningoncookies Pretzels with Pub Cheese- my daily afternoon snack! So good!
