*TW* Spotting/Bleeding/Threatened Loss Support

I borrowed this idea from a previous BMB. I think it is important for us all to have a dedicated forum when dealing with these upsetting issues. I have seen multiple posts about spotting/bleeding and have experienced it myself, so this is a space for us to discuss those things outside of the regular symptoms thread.

This thread is to support anyone experiencing spotting and/or bleeding.

All conversation surrounding these issues should go here. The TW in the title applies for the whole thread. Please beware of reading ahead if you think you might be triggered by conversations about spotting/bleeding.

Finally, remember that most of us are not medical professionals, and even if we were, it's always best to call/visit your doctor with questions or concerns. Feel free to ask questions and voice concerns, but please do not expect anyone here to be able to offer you anything but support.  The most important thing to do is to call your doctor. They can offer answers; we can offer support.

Re: *TW* Spotting/Bleeding/Threatened Loss Support

  • @bearmomma1. Thanks for creating this page.  I had seen it elsewhere, but hadn't seen it in our group (hence the TW and spoiler post elsewhere).  Also thanks for the kind words.  Fingers crossed for good news on Friday for us.

  • @laurenspdx sorry you have been experiencing spotting/bleeding. I’m glad everything is ok so far and your little bean had a heartbeat and your betas were rising. I have experienced spotting before in my first pregnancy and it is such a scary symptom.
  • Anyone have a little pink spotting after a 💩? Dr. Google says it can be normal but I’m just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.
  • @tryingktogku I personally haven't had that before while pregnant. Ive had that many times before when I wasn't pregnant but I've heard that can be normal.
  • @tryingktogku. I have had spotting every day this week (and normally it starts after I have been exercising or cleaning the house.  Don't get too excited- haven't really been doing much of both).  At my appointment on Monday, the doctor said that was pretty normal and women can spot their whole first trimester.  Cramps and extensive bleeding are more causes for concern.  There are a lot of new blood vessels forming to support the placenta, so something as simple as coughing can rupture one.  Also with how much water you might be drinking, your veins can be stretched a little bit.  Hope that helps, but I am sure you can call the nurses line for your doctor if you are concerned.
  • @tryingktogku yes, I've had this in the past, specifically during bouts of constipation.  Of course the following assumes its not vaginal bleeding.

*TMI* We would say a little blood on the toilet paper after a #2 is frequently associated with tiny tears from constipation and is super common.  This can get worse and progress to a fissure, which is more indicated if going #2 comes with a very sharp pain in the skin area.  Finally, of course we can also develop hemorrhoids during constipation and pregnancy which can also cause some bleeding.  Treatment is aggressive constipation treatment and most of the time this goes away.  Lots of hydration, miralax, no straining, use a squatting step, etc. If a lot of blood is falling into the bowl, it's getting worse, etc. I would discuss with your doc.
  • @gh1219 OMG the roids. Mine never went away after DS (be warned!). I manage them and take a stool softener when needed. I also have a bidet now that helps a ton. Be gentle to your butts!
  • @dobiemom11 thanks! I was also much more active today. I cleaned the house worked out and went for a walk so that could have done it too. Maybe I’ll try to take a little easier lol its deff not bright red and I’m not cramping at all so that makes me feel better but it’s just alarming when you wipe and see some pink tinged CM

@gh1219 thank you! I think I’ll have to try some restoralax lol I was trying to just increase fiber intake normally but it’s not doing it!
  • @tryingktogku. The pink made me nervous more so than the brown.  (Wow TMI internet stranger.  Sorry about that!). Mine seems to come and go which is also reassuring.  Hopefully yours is the same or just goes away entirely.
  • @gh1219 Holy smokes fissures are no joke. I wouldn’t wish one of those on my worst enemy.
  • @dobiemom11 thankfully it was just a one time thing for me! Went away completely and DH and I DTD last night and still no more pink/brown few!
  • When to the doctor today for some bleeding. She didn't see anything in the uterus. Could be
    1. Ectopic pregnancy
    2. Miscarriage
    3. Not far enough along to see anything.

Taking blood work today and Friday to see if hormone levels increase or decrease.
  • @courtmorgann5 thinking of you and sending you love ❤️ How far along are you?
  • @courtmorgann5 Sorry to hear that and thinking of you too!

It’s so hard not knowing, I really hope you get good news soon. How far along are you?
  • @courtmorgann5 I hope all goes well!

Unfortunately I've started having some bleeding tonight around 10pm. Hoping to wait and call my ob in the am, but might go to the er tonight if it gets much heavier. My first appointment isn't scheduled until Monday, but I bet they have me go the hospital tomorrow. FX it's nothing, but I'm not optimistic at this point.

@sejica Hope all is ok! Even though it can mean a whole range of things and can be normal, it’s a scary thing to experience, so I’m thinking of you. Hope you get answers quickly when you talk to the doctor!
  • Thinking of you @sejica, please keep us updated
  • What a devastatingly needed support group this is. I'm six weeks today and started spotting the tiniest amount yesterday almost barely noticeable but felt bloating discomfort too. And then had two 1-2 inch spots of brown/ pink mucus discharge yesterday eve. Then pink occl since wiping. No clots though. What gives me the panic attacks is I had a MMC and spotted around the time it died and then four wks later when I started to MC. Will call my doctor. I ask other moms if they spotted during pregnancy and they always say no. Do you guys get implantation spotting too? I always got it each time got pregnant exactly 12 days post ovulation. Maybe that means I'm just very vascular? Idk. Prayers for all of you ladies!
  • Thanks everyone for your kind words and t&p's. Surprisingly, for now they want me to wait 'til my Monday appointment and call back if the flow increases or there's pain or fever. Not thrilled about this plan, but I do trust my doctor. So, wait and see.

@knottie2aa00c438298db79 sorry you're in this uncertainty boat with me, hope it turns out ok for us both.

  • @knottie2aa00c438298db79. I have been spotting everyday for the past two weeks (starting at around 5.5 weeks).  My doctor brought in for bloodwork every couple days for the past two weeks and an ultrasound this week.  Everything seems to be progressing normally.  She said that there are a lot of fragile blood vessels in the area and just normal movement can cause some of them to rupture.  She mentioned not too worry unless it is similar to a period (and can fill up a pad). Mine had been pink to brown.  Wishing you the absolute best as I know it can be so difficult to see.  Fingers crossed that everything is alright.
  • I can relate. In my 6th week I had some spotting about a 1 tbls with some cramping which seemed like a bit to me. I called my doc and telehealth and they told me it should be fine but if its heavy like a period and bright red for more than 2 days, to be alarmed. Since then I have had bloodwork done and it all seems ok for now. My first ultrasound is on Tuesday so I'm a but nervous but trusting in the Lord to bring my heart peace. I have spotted a but this week as well. I was told by a few women they spotted throughout their entire pregnancy and had healthy babies so I'm clinging to the fact all bodies are different.
Will keep you all updated after my ultrasound and please keep me posted too!
I know it can be scary, especially when other moms to be are saying they never had it. Trying not to compare is hard. Grateful for this platform.
  • These stories definitely make me feel a little better. Hard not to compare yourself to other women and even your other pregnancies is always hard. My doctor's words of "do you still feel pregnant?" Always haunts me... like uhh yeah I think I do? Haven't got my period yet is the only way I can judge it according to everyone's varying symptoms ! But, Yes fingers crossed we all have good news at upcoming apts!
  • Last month, I had spotting for almost a week that got pretty heavy and was sometimes quite red. I talked to a few of my close my friends who had had babies about it and no one had anything similar so I was just so nervous during that waiting time (I had a 5w2d u/s where they saw a yolk sac only but had to wait 11 days for a follow up). Plus, everything I read only talked about light brown spotting that didn’t last as long. Thankfully, we had a heartbeat at the next visit and the doctor found the reason for the spotting. I’m still getting some brown on and off but feel more assured knowing what it is, but still nervous every day.

Everyone is just so different that it’s so hard to find reassurance that matches your unique situation, which is so frustrating. I must have googled every combination under the sun! But ultimately it just takes patience and trust in your doctors.

Hoping everyone is able to find some peace during the wait and that you all get good news. Remember to be kind to yourselves and trust your bodies. Sending good vibes!!

  • @bkinn26 thinking of you during this stressful time. I really hope your spotting stops soon. I'm glad that ultrasound showed a healthy pregnancy and a baby with a strong heartbeat.
  • @bkinn26. I know my spotting gets worse after I walk the dog.  So I am trying to take things a little easy in the exercise department.  Go snuggle that little one and then put your feet up.   Wishing you the best!

Thank you all for being so supportive! I literally needed this thread today for my sanity and to settle down my internal worries!!
  • Bkinn I feel you, this thread is such a relief. But yes try not to worry too much. I panicked when I first saw spotting and thought it was all over. But got an US yesterday that showed a heartbeat! And then after the transvaginal US spotted again briefly a few hours later! So increased vascularity really does seem to be a culprit! Trying to remind myself worrying won't change anything. Just need to be cautious!
  • I am totally freaking out over here.  Thanks for having a place where I can share that.  I hate running to my husband every time something happens.  I keep scaring him and then nothing really happens.  Just had some more heavy bleeding.  I have an appointment on Tuesday, so I just need to keep calm and wait for that.
  • @dobiemom11 Totally! I think it can sometimes be hard for people who haven’t experienced it firsthand to grasp how hard it is, despite their best intentions, because they can mentally distance. My SO was so supportive when I was bleeding, but I know he didn’t fully understand how painful it was that I could feel it and saw it every time I went to the bathroom. It can feel really overwhelming.

Hopefully the heavy bleeding today is just a blip and it goes down again. You may have done something unknowingly to irritate things a bit more? Did the doctors see anything that could have been causing the bleed at your u/s (like an SCH) or does it just seem to be irritated tissue?
  • @dobiemom11 so sorry to hear this mama. I’m thinking of you and hoping everything is ok ❤️ Keep us posted after your appt on Tuesday.
  • Well, that didn’t last long. Here comes the bleeding/spotting from my procedure yesterday. 😢 I know they said it’s normal but it still really triggers me and upsets me seeing it seeing how what happened last time with my first pregnancy. This sucks. I didn’t want the anxiety. I hope it doesn’t last long.
  • @mindyb2019. I am so sorry to hear that you are spotting.  It is so hard to see that!!  Be so gentle with yourself today.  You can do this!  (Also telling myself that...I haven't eaten much all day and just know that is making my anxiety and my upset stomach worse.).  Feeling crappy both physically and mentally is just so hard.
  • @dobiemom11- Praying for you! I hope the bleeding stops and everything looks perfect on Tuesday!

@mindyb2019 - So sorry that the spotting has started! I hope it’s over quickly!
