@laur84ns I have a doppler. I have used it my pregnancies that have shown a hb. I found ds1 at 9weeks, ds2 at 10 w, and this babe briefly at 9.5w. That said, I know what I am listening for, I have zero torso, so not a lot of "searching" ground, and I feel around for baby before I start. I dont use it often, but when PGAL rears it's head, it helps. That said, I give myself a 10 minute time limit. If I dont find it, I put it up and try again later.
ziggymama06 I work for the federal government. My dad and I work in two different agencies but we are under the same department so we can share with one another.

@laur84ns I have a Doppler and used it with DD but I had to restrict to once a week or I would have been obsessed. I am out of gel so I haven’t used it yet this pregnancy. It is really stressful when you can’t find the HB right away. However, now that I know more about your healthcare system, it might give you some reassurance.
@kgrgreen@fitandnerdy Ok, sounds like I’d just worry myself by not being able to find a heartbeat this early on so I think that’s all I need to know to resist buying one. Thanks guys. @wildrainbow Wow, you’ve managed to find heartbeats really early! Sounds like you know what you’re doing. I don’t have a particularly short torso and I have a bit of extra... pudge from my first two pregnancies so I think I’d struggle to find it this early @tara4910 Thanks for the feedback! It sounds like it might be something fun to try if I’m still feeling anxious in the second trimester!
So I told my boss and he was so nice about it... which I knew he would be but I was super nervous for some dumb reason! We didn't figure out my mat leave, but he said whatever I need. I work in a super small office (4 ppl including my boss and me), so they'll really feel it when I'm out. I mentioned possibly working from home before coming back to the office or just coming in when needed and he seemed fine with it. I think I may need to do a bit of research on my end to see what the norm is. I don't want to take advantage but don't want to rush back either. We have time so we'll figure it out.

@ziggymama06 I'm so glad everything went well today! One less thing to worry about, and it sounds like he's being flexible about things, too. Great news!
Gah, after reading about a fellow board member and their struggles for reassurance, my brain spiraled a little today. I'm still uninsured.. we still haven't heard anything about when that will possibly get started, and honestly as long as I am insured by the anatomy scan time, I don't really mind unless I start to feel off and other problems start to arise. (This isn't my first rodeo yo. I know there isn't much to see right now and there isn't a lot they would be doing with me anyway.)
So I took to the google, I found a place 15 minutes away that lets you self pay for several types of ultrasounds(they do contracted work for offices too). For a simple dating ultrasound where they confirm and date the pregnancy, take a heart rate, do some quick measurements and snap a couple pictures it would only cost me $65 US. I was expecting to pay a lot more honestly. We are hoping to go public on March 1st and this seems like a good second option to get an ultrasound for sharing (and some reassurance for my brain) if I can't get into a doctor's office before the end of the month. DH and I agreed to give his job until the 20th of this month to get it together before we pull the trigger on something like this... But I honestly feel a lot better about this as a back up plan.
@RedBaramid I usually do at least one elective ultrasound during the big wait between NT and anatomy. I'm glad you going a place and $65 is a great price.
My principal came by my door today while I was teaching and kept smiling and giving me a thumbs up. I have him a thumbs up but he kept doing it and wouldn't go away, it was weird. So I opened the door and he was asking how I was and how was baby and I said good... Then he hugged me. It was so weird. I'm not a higher or really like people other than my family to touch me but I tried to be nice.
@RedBaramid that does seem like a good price for some reassurance! Fingers crossed your insurance situation gets resolved before then so you don't need to do that!
@jwhite3116 that's so odd lol. I'm also not much of a hugger and would have been really weirded out by that. I taught HS for a few years and definitely would have not liked my principal to give me a hug
Theres a place near me that does gender scans only for that price. I think its worth it to have some piece of mind.

@psychobutthead Yes! One dog is always laying at my feet and the other one is extra anxious and protective. Cute but a little annoying. Haha
@ziggymama06 so glad it went well telling your boss! I can see why it would be such a different situation in a small office. Fingers crossed you figure out a really perfect maternity leave plan!
@RedBaramid I think this ultrasound place sounds great! I'm so glad you have a backup option while you wait for all the insurance stuff to work itself out.
@ziggymama06 if there is an HR department I would send them an email and see what the standards are. If not take your 12 weeks! I know your office is small, but they will ma age just fine. You won’t get this time back with your baby. Also, you need the time to heal if you don’t have a great delivery.
Prior to my daughters birth I would voluntarily stay late to finish something that I was working or linger for a little bit after work. Now when it comes to my time leaving, or my daughter having a field trip, or anything I’m out and I don’t feel bad for it. We will never get this time back with our kids. And I truly believe that the infant days are long, but that year will fly by!
@psychobutthead my dog was like this with my first pregnancy. Now he wants nothing to do with me this time around.
@RedBaramid I don’t know how you are doing it. I would have called that place and tried to make an appointment for tomorrow. It really does suck that your husband’s job is dragging their feet with this. Can he tell them that you’re pregnant and you need coverage ASAP?

So tonight a lost dog just walked into my house. It’s going to be really cold so I couldn’t just let her wander off. She’s currently in my yard barking nonstop, but we will bring her in after DS goes to bed. I’ve posted on Nextdoor and Facebook but it was too late in the day to check for a microchip at a vet.
I really do not want to be dealing with this dog right now, but my conscience is forcing me to 😤
@psychobutthead YES my black car is obsessed with lying on and kneading my belly each and every time I’m pregnant. He never does it otherwise. It gets pretty comical when he tries to do it around 39/40 weeks
@RedBaramid Yikes, I’m sorry if I made you spiral and worry, but I think you know what my advice is gonna be - get the scan! $65 is nothing compared to peace of mind before sharing your news.
@ziggymama06 So happy that telling your boss went well!
@jwhite3116 Your principal giving you the thumbs up and a hug sounds super awkward lol. My manager (who I’m good friends with) keeps making awkward comments about looking for my baby bump. It’s like working with my mom haha.
@RedBaramid You are really handling the insurance situation with so much grace. Glad you have the ultrasound place as a back up if needed.
Happily we found the dog’s owners and she’s back home with her family.

@blackgirlmagic We don't want to fluster anyone. He hasn't been with the company a year yet so we're not sure how they are going to feel if an employee they haven't technically signed on yet(he is still technically just under contract until they get through all the dumb paperwork and bureaucracy) is raising a flag that may sound like he's going to want time off in August. We have been investigating some private insurance options that we can sign me on for if this goes on way too long. His direct supervisor is now fighting for him to get through this process faster since he cannot get access to some programs he needs access to in order to complete all his job duties as a contract only employee. I am at least confident we're gonna get there sooner since his supervisor has specifically requested he be bumped up the list above people who are able to complete their jobs without the official employee stamp.
Thanks for all the grace comments guys.. I really am trying to handle all this with grace and remember that 100 years ago there was no ultrasound and women flew blind into this and survived.
@psychobutthead Yes, my sweet dog follows me around non-stop! I work from home most of the time so she stays with me in the office. Even if I get up to go to the bathroom she follows!
@psychobutthead I've totally noticed this with my cat but thought it was maybe in my head. She's a shy cuddler (likes to stay near my feet, lower legs, and doesn't really like to be pet), but lately she has been coming right up to snuggle near my belly and let's me love on her. I'm really loving it!
Ugh The Bump is being really awful for me today!! I finally got it work.
I got a snow day from school which is a nice little treat especially since last night I had conferences and didn't get home until late. It's been nice to spend the day with my son and now that he is down for a nap, I'm hoping to sneak one in too between loads of laundry.
@BusinessWife Wow! That actually is really exciting to me. It feels like time has been moving so slowly but the October board is proof that we’ve all made it a long way with our pregnancies.
@riatortillaxo SAME. The past two days on The Bump have been atrocious, even on my laptop. Ugh. I hope you got to squeeze in that nap!
@BusinessWife I'M SO EXCITED. My son and I spent the last couple of days baking Valentine's Day sugar cookies and preparing little care packages to send to the grandparents with birthdays this month. I love any excuse to celebrate, and I'm definitely not mad that February is almost halfway over!
So i know this isnt the ultrasound thread but still gonna post here.
Had my NT scan today. There was a heartbeat! Doctor eventually reviewed the scans and left in my patient portal that everything looked good and normal!
So relieved.

I'm glad its not just me. The app won't load on my phone at all and the website is running at dial up speed. Its frustrating.
@psychobutthead baby looks great and I totally understand why you didn't post on that thread. I was going to as well since I had a great scan Thursday and got to see baby but it just didn't seem right.
Ultrasound tech took a nub theory guess and said boy but we have a gender scan on 3/5 so we'll be sure then.
I'm so glad its the weekend. I have a 3 day work week for the next two weeks. This month is flying by.
Thanks everyone! I've been trying to stay busy all week and not think about the scan today. I've been a complete wreck and terrified.
I also haf my 12 week ob appointment. She okayed me to use acne wash! I have horrible cystic acne everywhere with this baby. And the insomnia has been awful so she said I could take melatonin.
I also scheduled my elective ultrasound today to find out the sex. Thats for the 28th.
Told my daughter today I'm pregnant. She cared but not alot. Hates the girl name we picked 😆

@jwhite3116 The app hasn’t worked for me for a couple of weeks ☹️. I’m glad your scan went well! Nun theory was right on the money for mine, but I didn’t totally believe it until we got the “official” verdict.
@gomillis that's awesome! The ultrasound tech was pretty sure. The "nub" was sticking almost straight up so... I won't be 100% convinced until my gender scan on the 5th.
Also, I told my principal I'm not coming back next year. It was scary, he was sad, I hate change.
@psychobutthead Yay! I'm so happy everything went well! I hope the acne wash helps. I've had cystic acne for years (only really getting a break during this pregnancy), so I know how crippling it is on the self-esteem, not to mention downright painful.
