I had a super cranky moment

My Dr asked me to go into Labor and Delivery after a gush of fluid at my appointment...I was hoping baby was on his way. I got set up in Triage and I had just finished a round of clinicals at this hospital, so I know about 85% of the nurses by name. The nurse I had was not someone I knew, but oh god if I get her for a labor nurse for my induction tomorrow I might slam her face into a wall.

She was a new nurse/ new to healthcare and oh so happy to be there. My DH who does not work in healthcare accidently pushed the alarm button with his head( pretty impressive) and I just canceled it...she was sitting in there and when another nurse came to help she said" oh I guess she works here and shes showing her husband all about it" Yes because the big cancel button would have been too hard for his masters degree mind.

Then she instructed me on how to use a call light...and pulled both my bed rails up and said in a chipper voice " Bed rails up for safety" Cause you know god forbid I would roll out of bed in my completely able state and break my face. Also she smiles at me and says no smoking in the hospital ( yeah I know and I don't smoke) and make sure to wash your hands...really? Are you sure I should do that?

At this point I was done. I wanted my F-ing test results so I could leave or get a labor nurse, because I was thinking about killing her. So she pops in with my results ( negative) and says well you probably just peed yourself...no big deal...Yeah on the table with the dr's hand in my woo-haa after I had just peed must be.

Even my DH who is usually the nicer of the two of us was like dear Jesus could she have been more annoying.

Any one else have an annoying nurse story? or am I just a complete crabby butt?

  • Ha, I can totally picture the bed rails are for safety comment! Sorry, that all sounds hard to deal with.

My LD nurse was sweet but super annoying. Not sure if this is standard but she had this whole long list of questions to get through, which is fine, but not during transition contractions! I just wanted silence so I tried my best to ignore her but she wasn't getting the hint. At one point she asked us if we had some form of transportation, like a car or a bicycle. Later DH was like, was she really asking us if we were planning to take the baby home on a bike?? lol

  • I have a story! On of our nurses made me cry...thank you hormones! The first night in the hospital DH sat un a rocking chair with DD to try and get her to sleep. The next day she lectured him about how he can't sleep with the baby on him or by him, she MUST sleep in her own bed. Uumm...excuse me? Don't tell me or my DH how to raise our kid.

Ha ha.  I cannot think of anything more uncomfortable sounding than riding a bicycle days after giving birth.  LOL

  • I had a wonderful L&D nurse at the beginning of pushing, then there was a shift change, and I got someone extremely annoying.  She counted the contractions down out loud at first (told her to stop that), and she kept trying to "piss me off" to make me push harder.  I was pushing as hard as I could, so all she really did was make me want to punch HER.  My doctor turned off my contraction monitor and let me lead my own pushing, I think, because she could tell I wanted to kill that nurse. She wasn't much better as a post-partum nurse the following night...  Though that time, she was mostly just lazy, and I wasn't allowed out of bed yet because of mag sulfate.  Ugh.
