So I’m usually pretty aware of what my kids are getting into, but my 2 year old just grabbed a paring knife from the counter without me noticing and was in the living room stabbing one of the slipper chairs 🤦🏻♀️
I know my dr definitely tested for varicella immunity as well as rubella, it was part of their standard pre-pregnancy screening.
Also, now I feel old. I didn't even realize there was a chicken pox vaccine and it definitely didn't exist when I would have been in grade school. It was just something every kid caught from someone in school at some point. Like I didn't even think it was possible to make it to adulthood without having had chicken pox (or pink eye or strep throat for that matter).
Thanks for all the input! It's also about a 4 hour drive for me but I wont be the one driving. We are staying in a hotel fairly close by. I think given all your suggestions I will just make it clear ahead of time that if I feel I'm not up to something, I will just got to the room to rest while they go have fun.
@pirateduck It didn't exist when I was a kid, and my sister, who is 8 years younger than me is also too old to have had it offered. I think it became popular out by me around 2005 ish? But I was in college!

@pourmeanothermocktail it looks like it was first available in 95 which would have been long after I'd already had chicken pox.
My sister was born in 95! But it wasn't available HERE yet, and she had it by the time it was offered locally. My young cousins born in 1999 and later were offered it around 4 or 5 years old.

I splurged on a double stroller that I'm going to pick up today and I'm so excited. It's my birthday so we are going to get the kids early from daycare to drive and pick it up, and then try to go out to Cheesecake Factory for dinner. We've been trying to bring them to restaurants more (3.5 yo and 2 yo) so that they know how to behave while out. Cheesecake Factory seems like a fairly loud restaurant capable of drowning out toddler-isms.... right??? wish me luck haha.
@mamaqdubu I hope it goes smoothly! I think it's a big, loud, family-oriented enough restaurant that you should be okay. And if not... at least you can get cheesecake to go and drown your sorrows later on?

Is today over yet? I was just doing a bit of work on my laptop and I turned around to see the same kid that was stabbing my chair earlier is now climbing all over the couch with a full diaper and smeared poop on the cushions. 🤦🏻♀️💆🏻♀️
Yes, it was definitely varicella that I was below the threshold for both this time in and in 2017 that nobody mentioned to me. I do plan to get the vaccine as soon as safely possible. I'm also with @pirateduck on feeling old though and thinking chicken pox was kind of just a right of passage lol.
Also agree with @drkoyya that this board is very active this week. I think everyone is scared of being left behind when we move to a PG lol, but it's nice to see all the activity. Unfortunately it's a semi-busy week for me so I can't be on as often as I'd like to stay on top of things.
@pirateduck I didn't get chicken pox as a kid so around 9 I think I got a single vaccine that was pretty new. I ended up getting a very mild case of the chicken pox around 11 years old (like just a few spots and fever may have been like 100). I imagine most people here got the chicken pox before the vaccine was really available. Never checked my immunity though so I'm kinda curious now how my body registered it all haha.
@mamaqdubu Happy birthday! I love the cheesecake factory and definitely a good choice for kids. Hope you don't have too much of a wait!
@bananapanda my blood work is the same for varicella and even though I have had multiple MMRs throughout my life I dont make any of those antibodies, my OB said just to avoid people who could have it. Which has been more complicated by working with a few unvaccinated people.
Edit to add: I do get the boosters after I give birth so they are fine while breastfeeding (I was still in the hospital when they gave them and at that time was trying to exclusively breastfeed which my OB and the pedi knew)
total side note, but I hang out in the June board too, and between the two I'm super done with one-offs this week. Also cranky.

@pourmeanothermocktail They drive me nuts. This isn't your personal Google. Stop making AW posts that only apply to your specific question and try some give with your take. But everyone here is always so nice to them and I already have 2 warnings for calling out drive bys in the last year, so I'm behaving myself. 😂

@pourmeanothermocktail@shamrocandroll I really wanted to be snarky and suggest she use the randoms for something like that, as the rest of us do, but that felt mean considering it was a question related to mental health. So to compromise I answered and brought up the Mental health thread from way back when, hoping that it would nudge her in the “right” thread direction.
@sunshinesea I admire your optimism. I always assume they'll all ghost and never even bother to say thank you for any help they receive. Sometimes I'm surprised, but not usually. 😕

@lisush I was too. Again wanted to be snarky with that one but decided I’d let others do the work and then no one brought the snark! Excellent question about the warnings, I’ve also wondered about that
@lisush "the bump gods" moderate, but warnings are seldom given to the drive bys and are often given to the regulars who use any tiny semblance of snark (aka "unwelcoming tone") to redirect them, so I've had to be careful. But they should definitely be redirected rather than continuing the thread with actual helpful responses they'll never acknowledge. It drives me insane that our name thread was started by a Knottie who never came back again.

Here is a real random thought for everyone, what makes something a muffin vs a cupcake? I thought of this as I was eating a chocolate chocolate chip muffin
@babyfoxden10 happy bday to you too!!!! I hope you did something fun! I had a good time for the first 25 mins at the Cheesecake Factory, and then it was another 20 mins of scarfing down my food while toddlers hang on me, try to go under the table, stand up on booths, and be reasonably annoying. Some day they will learn. I just keep telling myself that.
Also I will be real honest, if I don't know the persons name posting often I wait to see if anyone else responds first because I just am 1)lazy and 2) I have RBF even on the interwebs
Also @mamaqdubu my now six year old has figured out how to act like he was raised in a civil home in the past 2.5 years out to eat so fear not it will click eventually!
@shamrocandroll that was my thought too because as I was eating my second I was like look it is healthier than a cupcake so there to my DF who was just surprised I wanted a second (I am not usually a sweets person)
@mamaj1220 they usually have some different ingredients or amounts such as sugar, butter, oil, yogurt, or sour cream, and muffins tend to be denser. And definitely the icing and filling differences. But some definitely walk the line of what are you though!
@mamaj1220 Definitely the icing. However, I think muffins are more savory than cupcakes because even iced muffins aren't the same as cupcakes. It's a very fine line.
@babyfoxden10@mamaqdubu Happy birthday! I hope you get some delicious birthday cupcakes and/or muffins
@heyybritt I can’t stop laughing at your gif. I’m crying 😂. That’s how I usually feel too...
@mamaqdubu Happy birthday! I’m sorry the kids were being toddler jerks for your birthday dinner! I’m sure they will learn, it just takes lots of exposure to restaurants (unfortunately) It’s probably better to start now than to wait til they’re 8 and have no concept of how to behave in a restaurant.
@babyfoxden10 Happy birthday to you too!! Hope you did something fun!
@mamaj1220 Definitely the icing but also the sugar content and density of the base product. One can enjoy an unfrosted cupcake but that doesn’t make it a muffin. Cupcakes usually are sweeter in general even before frosting and have a lighter, more airy texture. Muffins are more dense
My go-to with drive bys is to ask them to intro, ***read this first*** tell them where their question belonged, and offer a mini answer. I want to do total snark but I got a ban on my original account. For giving massive side-eye regarding obviously made-up-drama, catfish, and then a drive by that insisted on being rude after being politely redirected. Twice.
So now I try to moderate, but I had to do it like 6 times in the last week between two groups and I wasn't sure I could be nice enough today considering it was mental health.
When it's a reasonable question at least, I don't mind a short answer, but I insist you get through all my "hey, follow the rules" talk first.
Also, I got a new maternity belt today, that's got like jock strap straps attached. It's super even less sexy, but I will admit, it's helping a bit. And not riding up whenever I sit.

@pourmeanothermocktail Yes, I usually do well with being polite initially, but it's when they come back and say something rude that I tend to get myself in trouble. For example, the drive-by who called me a cracker and continued to spew obscenities at me after a redirect, while I said nothing. I ultimately called her a troll, and that got me my second warning. My first warning, I'll concede to because I posted a Mister Rogers middle finger GIF to a drive by who wished infertility upon all of us in TTGP. Even though she deserved it.

@pourmeanothermocktail@shamrocandroll Oh those bump gods. I once got banned for telling someone that we don’t like pregnancy test pictures, especially in the BMB groups. I wasn’t even THAT snarky. Therefore I’m very careful in my wording and responses, I too have warnings and I rather like this account.
