Re: January Randoms

  • Does anyone have a relatively inexpensive bassinet they love? I’m toying with the idea of keeping DS in his crib, having baby in a bassinet, and moving DS to a toddler bed at 2 when baby is 5-6 months.

DS hated all the things and we didn’t have a bassinet, we do have a pack and play with bassinet attachment but I’m wondering if an actual bassinet will work better.

  • @chaos-and-coffee we used a bassinet for the first six months, the Arms Reach Co Sleeper. It worked really well. It is relatively inexpensive and in our case was free because a friend lent it to us for that time period. We picked up the same model from a neighbor through Buy Nothing (so also free) for this time.

I'd totally be looking used. There are some small size pack and play options too that are small enough to roll through doorways, but no bassinet in them, so you'd need to bend over.

Point of note-the bassinet in the pack and play is usually a 15 lbs weight limit. I've not had a baby (even my preemie!) still be under that past 4 months.

Its been a LONG time, how do I change the personal info stuff at the bottom of my posts? I feel old.... I've been bumping for a decade.

  • @chaos-and-coffee We got a bassinet used for like $30 and it’s in brand new condition. We never used one for our first so I’m excited to see how baby does with it. We’re planning on having it stay in our room until baby is old enough to share a room with big sister because big sister is not old enough for a room downstairs! Also trying to keep the cat out of the bassinet is giving me anxiety 😫
  • Anticipating a night of insomnia due to my anatomy scan first thing tomorrow am. Can’t shake the nerves that something is wrong. I’ve had 3 dreams this babe is boy #2! I also had a dream he was 9lbs 4 oz so if just one of those were true I’d pick boy every time. We’ll see in 12 hours!
  • Hey ladies- I’m away for work this week so I probably won’t be able to check in much! 8 hours time difference- OOF. So tired

  • I’m on vacation for 17 nights. You could say this is our baby moon. We flew to San Francisco and leave for a cruise to Hawaii and back today!! So excited! I won’t be able to post for a while!
  • @lizanet - I always go through a "Dear god, this thing has to get to the outside of my body" freak out too. :)  Score on hand me downs!!  A friend just gave us a pack n play, glider and swing!
  • @JessiBride not sure how I possibly forgot about the labor part.... Hopefully I forget again until June 🤗

Looks like you got some pretty good stuff too.
  • Anyone else's baby still sitting super low?  I'm 22 weeks tomorrow and I still feel like this baby is at the bottom of my belly.  He hasn't moved up at all.  I have a repeat a/s on Thursday, so I'll ask about it then, but it's weird.  Unless I just don't remember how this works??
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @diagonalley My DS1 hung out low for the whole time. He (thankfully) never reached the ribs kicking stage. I have a long torso, but he was way down by my hips the whole pregnancy and then, ironically, refused to actually drop at the end.

  • Squid is already sitting engaged in pelvis. Maybe because my damn pelvis is too wide open, lol. Of course, it's butt engaged, but hey, my kids want to greet the world with their butts.

  • @diagonalley yes! This baby is so low it hurts. I asked about it and the tech said his feet were super low. She said it doesn’t matter quite yet but it really hurts sometimes. She unfortunately isn’t allowed to say much during the ultrasound so I’m going to ask at my next appt too.
  • So I have two questions.

I've heard through the grapevine that insurance will cover a breast pump. Do they just send you one or is it a dollar amount for reimbursement?

And two, when it comes to your baby bump, what do you consider "showing"? I had an extra spare tire of fat around my waistline when we got pregnant and I feel like it's just being pushed up and out further and making me look more fat. I haven't taken any bump pictures either because it's a squishy fat roll, not a baby bump. My SIL told me last weekend that it totally counts as showing but I'm still skeptical--it's not a baby it's fat. What do you consider "showing" to mean?
  • @SpartanCat As a plus size mama, I also had the spare tire vs bump issue (and do again, now). My personal vote is that it passes into bump territory when you say it does... But at some point (later in my first pregnancy, earlier this time) the bump was way more forward than my chub ever was on its own. Actually, my bump kind of spread my chub out over more area and ended up making my waist look smaller last time. Surprise win!

Post C-section (DS1), my pre-baby chub now sits lower so it sort of rounds out the bottom of my bump to make it look much bigger than I think it should at 19 weeks.

If you say it's a bump, it's a bump. And if you say it's not, then helpful people who are excited about your pregnancy may disagree (so that they can continue to be excited!). Either way, I hope you get a section of your pregnancy when you're amazed by what your body is doing right now and so proud of it/yourself! ❤️

  • @SpartanCat you will want to check with your insurance company on the pump because every insurance is different. Some will allow you to go through a website and pick what you want, some are more limited.
  • @SpartanCat try some of the websites. Aeroflowbreastpumps.com is really easy and user friendly and will show you all the breast pumps you’re eligible for. Also, ask your doctor, because mine told me that they give me paperwork for it at my next appointment.
  • @spartanca every insurance is different but most use a dme supplier. You give them your info, they get the approval from your insurance and ship it out. Typically (again depends on your insurance) there are some free options and some you can pay to get something a bit better.

Last time I got a spectra s2 and it was great other than it needs to be plugged into an outlet. The s1 has a battery but wasn't free. This time around I think I am going to go elvie but will have to pay like 325 our if pocket for it.
  • @SpartanCat like the others said, you'll need to contact your insurance company. With mine I had to wait until 30 days out from due date to order it. But they give you a few options to choose from. I got an Ameda last time, and was also gifted a Medela, but this time I think I want to try a Spectra.

And for the bump vs fat, I lost a lot of weight last year , especially compared to where I was pre pregnancy with DS, but still a little extra weight around the middle, I've taken bump pics on my own but haven't shared them here yet. I'll say other people noticed it before I felt like I could really see it. Just recently around 18/19 weeks have I really started to see it too. But as you get further along it will definitely be more prominent.

  • @SpartanCat I think my doctor wrote me the note for it around 28 weeks - I actually couldn’t get mine until after I had the baby. But did drop off my insurance info, so that I could get it while in the hospital. It ended up being a fiasco because I had DS on a weekend so the store wasn’t open and I had to send my DH back there Monday to get it. It was a medela and I did not like it so I’m getting a spectra s1 this time.
  • Has anyone used a Haakaa or plan to this time?  These are new since my last pregnancy.  My last little one only nursed one side at each feeding and I was a major leaker for the first couple months, so I was thinking this would be a great way to catch letdown on the non-nursing side.

    Thoughts?

Yes, do it! That's exactly what I used mine for, or if I got too full for tiny baby to latch I could suction it on and hand express a bit off into it with just massage. It didn't get a ton of use after first 6 months, but the price was totally worth it

  • @JessiBride I only nursed my first for a month but used the Hakka nearly every feeding, it’s well worth it! Especially those first few weeks when your supply is regulating and you tend to leak more (I did, at least). Definitely plan on using it again this time!
  • Thanks ladies!!  Love the price on these and the thought of saving milk.
  • Here we go again.  Follow up to my anatomy scan and super nervous again.  I've decided I'm just going to be anxious for every ultrasound at this point.
  • @kerco925 Good luck!  I feel this is me too. Do you think we should start PGAL again? I kinda stopped cause it didn't seem like there was a ton of interest on the board.

  • I'll definitely participate if we have one @hanshotfirst77
  • I’m back from my trip! So so jetlagged. I hope I get over it by work on Monday. The best thing about the trip is that the old navy where I was was having a crazy sale and I bought lots of baby clothes for $1 each. Love a bargain!

I feel like my bump got a lot bigger this week. Luckily I’m telling my coworkers on Wednesday! Baggy clothes can’t hide it anymore. Hope everyone has had a great week!
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • @hayhay2501 I'm amazed you're still hiding it at all. There is no way I can even pretend
  • @hayhay2501 this week is the first week where people have visibly been like “woah” and the first where one co worker told me congrats. Otherwise I was still in “too many burritos or pregnant?” Stage...only because I lived in oversize sweaters. Fitted maternity clothes are in and the bump is out!
  • A ton of random people at work this week have congratulated me (one person awkwardly said, “at least, I hope congratulations? It’s not a tumor, is it?” 🤦🏽‍♀️) or have told me that they wondered so they asked one of my work friends before saying anything. I guess it has gotten a lot more noticeable now! Can’t believe I’m at 22 weeks already, the time is flying.
  • @chaos-and-coffee yes this was definitely me. I got through January by wearing very baggy clothes and saying I gained a lot of weight on my Disney cruise 🤣. I think my coworkers will be shocked when I start wearing normal fitting clothes.

  • If I ever thought I wanted more than two children, chasing one toddler through the library during story time by myself while he laughed hysterically reminded me that two boys is about all I can handle 🤣
  • DD has strep.  She is soo sick and I feel so bad.  I am also really hoping I dont get it.  I have felt pretty off all day, so I am nervous.
  • Ds has hand foot mouth disease. This is by far the worst thing I've had to deal with since becoming a parent. No one got any sleep last night and today isn't showing signs of being any better. Dr said it can take up to TEN DAYS to get better. Worst sickness ever.
