Anyone get their hair colored while pregnant? Or get the ok from your OB? I didn't even think to ask until someone told me not to. But I'm pretty sure it's safe. Thoughts?
Yes, as long as you use a well ventilated room or salon. This is the only pregnancy I haven’t colored my hair, and that only because I stopped coloring it over a year ago. I only ever used home dye
@cmbt2 i haven't colored mine in like 5 years, but it got a lot darker after DD1 and I don't love it. I'm almost done with school and will have an income again so I'm ready to get some color again! I'm so excited.
I did an organic all over color with DS but it didn't require bleach so my hair dresser had no issue doing it. My friend is gonna do mine in a few weeks and she just told me not to bleach to my roots which I haven't done in ages anyway.

Just got my highlights redone to cover my grays. My OB said it was totally fine.
@alinic916 just be aware that while pregnant your skin is also more sensitive so pay attention to any unusual burning you may feel. That said I colored around 10 weeks and will be here shortly

I’m a natural mousy blonde, but it likes to bleach itself blonde in the summer and there’s this one particular strand that just grows light blonde, so I always tried to get it all to at least be consistent 🤷🏼♀️ I finally just said f it because I was tired of doing it lol.
My sister is my hairdresser and has no problem doing my highlights while pregnant and my OB was recently pregnant and frequently rocked fresh highlights too. This is one I don’t worry about.
Does anyone ever get a cramp (like a charley horse feeling) in their foot? Since a regular charley horse in your leg is common in pregnancy I wondered if it also was in your feet?

I have gotten them in my calves both pregnancies. I will wake up in the middle of the night in horrible pain bc of a Charlie horse in my leg. As for the foot, I don’t ever remember getting it there, but I’m sure anything is possible in pregnancy. I get to the point where I’m just achy all over haha
@junebabyh I have reynauds syndrome which results in excruciating foot cramps if I let my feet get cold. It is definitely worse when I'm pregnant. Walking does help most of the time but also make sure your staying hydrated as well.
@steminist Yes! It’s pretty painful. And yes everyone, it does mostly go away when I stand and put pressure on it. But needing to hydrate more makes sense. That would probably help in a few areas anyway!
I’ve started contacting some home Daycare’s which as a FTM is a bit scary tbh. I have a few that have been recommended and friends I know have used these homes. What questions should I ask when I go for a visit? Things to look for/ look out for? Thanks!!
hey all!! so this is kinda "urgent" and i'm not really sure what to do about it.
i'm a FTM, 18 years old, 19 weeks pregnant, and i cannot for the life of me get a single OB to call or email me back for an appointment. ive been trying to get in to ANYONE since week 10, when i moved to where i'm going to be for the next few years. before this, i had ONE ultrasound done at a pregnancy resource center to confirm i was pregnant and see the heartbeat (about 7 weeks).
i have medicaid through the state, as well as GREAT insurance my parents want me to use until the baby is born.
i was pretty adamant about not seeing a male OB since i've been sexually assaulted twice, but even now in my (sorta) desperation, none will give me the time of day.
i just don't know what's going on, or why they would ALL essentially reject me as a patient? is there something i can do about this? there's only like 6 OBGYNs within a 75 mile radius of where i'm at.
im just getting anxious and angry because i haven't been able to get any prenatal care, and nobody will help me.
i'm not really showing a bump at all, but i can feel what i think are kicks, im just worried and feeling lost. all of their offices have said they're taking new patients, as well.
@alaynacogs do you have a Federally Qualified Health Center near you? If I were you, I would walk into one and ask for an appointment. I am a dentist at an FQHC and we do same-day appointments for pregnancy confirmation and then they will get you in for your OB visit ASAP.
I posted in weekly checkin but I thought this might be a better location:
Anyone find a way to make taking iron more palatable? I’ve tried the rx pills and the meltable ones made for bariatric patients. Both wake me up from a dead sleep because they bother my stomach so much. And the burps after taking them through the night are so disgusting.

Do you not have iron in your prenatal?
I am anemic so my OB has me on an additional 325mg per day.

Ah- my first suggestion would be to switch to one with it, but alas. They had me take slow Fe after DS1 when I became anemic. I’m not sure if that’s the one you’ve tried though.
@alaynacogs That sounds so stressful. The wording of your post makes me wonder if you need to change your approach. I’ve never made a doctors appointment by sending an email or leaving a voicemail and expecting the office to call me back. Of the dozens of doctors I’ve seen in several states the process is basically the same - call during business hours, talk to a real person, ask if they’re taking new patients, and then make an appointment right then. It’s not clear from your post if all these doctors have said they won’t take you or if you haven’t managed to talk to anyone. If they’ve said they won’t take you, call again, ask again, and then ask why. Maybe they don’t take new patients after a certain gestational age. Maybe they don’t take your insurance. Doesn’t hurt to ask.
As far as seeing a male doctor, I understand your concerns. But in many offices, you can request that a nurse be present for the exam, if that would make you feel better. Also, most prenatal visits do not involve a pelvic exam.
And as a final thinking outside the box, Hail Mary idea... since you’re 18 and using your parents’ insurance, could one of your parents try to make an appointment for you? An office might respond to “my teenage daughter is 19 weeks pregnant and needs to see an OB ASAP!”

my issue has been that i've tried calling during office hours, usually 2-3x, and nobody ever answers, so i'm stuck leaving 1000 voicemails. >:-( as far as gestational age goes, i haven't had ANY prenatal care, simply because nobody will answer the calls/voicemails/emails, so now i'm even MORE likely to be turned away just because of how long it's been. i've checked my insurance's website, as well as their practice websites, and they accept my insurance(s). i'm just really frustrated and angry and upset that it seems like they all just get to ignore me, and i can't even get a reason. my mom is a full time nurse leader as well as the director of clinical education at the hospital she works at, and hasn't been able to help thus far because she's so busy, and never able to call during office hours, or even really before 12am. im to the point where i'm bitterly planning out contact with every news source that'll listen to me, god forbid something goes (or has gone) wrong.
@alaynacogs change how your calling and choose a different option. I’ve never once left a voicemail to make an appointment. If talking to a receptionist doesn’t work, use the provider line. Yes, it’s frowned upon to do that and usually a no go, but weeks of not reaching a receptionist call for a different approach. Only time I’ve had to leave messages was to get a nurse to call me back
@alaynacogs If it was me I would try calling over and over a bunch of times in a row to try to get through and if that doesn’t work, I’d just go to the office in person
@alaynacogs agree with others - I have NEVER left a VM for a doctor's appointment. I always speak to a receptionist when I call and schedule right then. Keep calling, being ignored is ridiculous and unacceptable. Honestly, I would drive my ass down to their office and stand in front of them until they gave me an appointment.
@quidditchcapn1120 try getting the slow release tablets and take at night before bed. They tend to be easier on the stomach, in my experience.
I had to leave a voicemail for my first choice office here in Boston (which I thought was strange but was the way they did it). I was off put by that though and, after not getting a call back within a day, I called my second choice and spoke to a real person. I go to the second choice now.
Oh yeah, first choice called to schedule my appointment 3 days later *intense side eye*

If you have Medicaid. You can call 211 (anyone can) and they can help you find a OB. They can even tell you who’s accepting new patients and even find one close to you.
I’m not trying to jump the gun on you and ask what you’re doing wrong, but, maybe you’re approaching them the wrong way?
I’ve personally have never had an issue finding an OB. Even before I got the OB I have now, when I was calling about “OB’s”, the office I called helped me and pointed me in the right direction.
I highly doubt people wont see you just because you’re past a certain GA..
@alaynacogs Definitely agree, drive in or call back to back. Someone has to answer eventually. I've left voicemails to schedule/reschedule appointments but I've been with them for several years. Maybe try another office nearby you? Doesn't hurt to try other options. They won't turn you away cause how far you are, I was 24 weeks with my daughter when I got to an OB. Your best bet is to be there in person though.
Please forgive me if this has already been answered, but: Are you all planning on buying a convertible crib? We would like a second child (knock on wood) relatively soon after the first, so I'm not sure if it is wise to get a convertible or not. Any input from STM/STM+? Should cribs be in next week's product spotlight or I am I the only one struggling here?
Edited to clarify: FTM please chime in, too! My sleepy bear tea is kicking in so I'm not making any sense and really need to go to bed now.

@elle-0409, not a STM, but my thought process was why not get the convertible crib just so the option is there? We may keep popping out babies and keep using the crib over and over and never converting it to a toddler bed, but at least the option is there if/when we want it someday. It doesn't hurt anything to have the option.
@galentine Good point! And I fixed my original post because it was not clear that I will happily take advice from everyone. Actually, do you all remember that paperclip that would pop up when you would open Word? I want him to come back and walk me through this whole baby registry thing. Why stop there? He could help me raise my child!

@elle-0409 I went back and forth on if I wanted a convertible for many reasons, just like you. Add to the fact that the conversion kit usually costs at least $80 for most cribs, and it left it as an even bigger question for us. However, we just so happened to decide on a crib that included the toddler conversion piece (our crib only converts to toddler and toddler daybed, not adult).
Like @galentine said, it doesn't hurt to have the conversion kit, but just remember that it will more than likely add a little extra expense. Some people move kids straight into a twin after the crib, so that may be worth considering as well.
