@eatinwatermelonseeds hopefully they can get you some pain relief quickly and figure out what's going on. I am SO GLAD it was nothing to do with the baby and Luke is doing so well, still! I feel like an idiot for posting around in other threads before seeing that here.
I'm on my way home now. My pain has decreased a lot and my urine cleared. They couldn't see any stones on ultrasound, so they think I passed it there. I'd be interested in seeing the results because my right ureter wasn't emptying into my bladder well. But they didn't say anything about it and I forgot to ask. I declined pain management but I'll be taking Tylenol when I get home.
This is the first chance I've had to get on TB today but I'm glad I saw your concern and update at the same time without worrying for an update @eatinwatermelonseeds. Glad all is well with baby, hope your feel better soon!
Have we done a GTKY about what everyone does for work, SAH, etc? I started this pregnancy hanging out in the April board, so I can't remember if I did that there or here. But I also know I don't mind revisiting some of the GTKYs over time because I always forget things.
@lappymom2019 yeah... That's the general feeling I get from most daycares.
For DS1 it was $230 a week. For baby it'll be about $330 a week. For full time. Both together is most of my paycheck. Hence why I'm a sahm with an expensive nursing degree 😂 will be getting DS1 to kindergarten before working.
@eatinwatermelonseeds Completely understandable! I am definitely going to have to research more options. This one was 1650 a month. Definitely out of budget.
Holy crap, $200+ a week?!? DD is in a state liscenced in home place (1 woman, 6 kids 18 months-4 years), and that's $185 a week. It will more than double with this one in September, so I better start saving now!
DS is nursing me to health 😂 I asked him to go get me a water and he came back with apple juice. But hey, close enough. He claims he called the doctor and he'll be here soon 😂
The cost of daycare has pretty much solidified that the fact that I’m going to be a stay at home mom. I only get work sporadically so it’s not the biggest loss, but still I wish it was more financially viable to be able to do both.
To go 5 days a week, it would cost $2000/month for DD as a toddler and a bit more for this LO, so $4k month for child care. Insane. We will send DD 3 days and this LO is going to an hourly center 20 hours a week for about $9/hrs. Still around $2500/ month is day care costs, which is obscene. I have no idea how people can afford $48k a year in child care. This is why I am getting my tubes tied.
@chloe97 Um, I don’t even make $48k a year! Hell, I don’t even make $40K a year! I’m thankful DH will be home every Monday and my parents will watch her every Friday so I only need care 3 days a week.
I’ll be paying about $600/week for both full time. I live in a city, but not a terribly expensive one, so I can’t imagine paying for care in nyc or similar. This is also why I can’t have a third child 😫.
Ugh @mrskoz428 Damn the Wisconsin governor for dismantling the teachers union! You guys are worth so much more than that! The public school teachers in my district start at like $55k these days and there are teachers who make in the 6 figures after 20+ years- teaching- no as administrators or department heads etc. Not trying to lure you to Illinois, but it’s not that far away 😉Though I will say our property taxes suck!
@chloe97 I definitely live in a very affordable city but starting pay for teachers in my district is $37k. I got “a raise” after year one, but then all the brand new teachers started at the same amount my “raise” was. Gee, thanks! 🙄 Glad we have Evers in office now!
I am freaking out about daycare too. Since I didn’t know about the wait lists and all that. In Denver costs are $1600-2200 for an infant for 5 days....and some have 2 yr wait lists!! Everyone we have spoken with put $50 deposits in over 10 daycare centers to then be declined out of most of them. A woman in HR told me she placed deposits when she got off the pill and started trying for a baby to have a better chance. This is insane. I am visiting my first center next Friday and scheduling the others shortly after. We don’t have any family in the US so we will have to find a daycare.
FIRST OF ALL @eatinwatermelonseeds I'm so glad you're okay!!! Holy moly. So glad baby is okay too, of course. That would freak me TF out.
Second, we looked at one daycare around us and it was $3500/month. HARD NO. The second one we looked at was $2300/month. So expensive but I still took home a solid amount of pay (which I was actually sad about because I wanted to stay home). So yeah, that's what it's like around here. We will be sending DS once a week soon for $130/day. If we can't handle it, we'll pull him out but I really hope we can. I feel guilty about him going since technically with my class schedule we don't need it, but I think it'll be amazing for him and it'll give me one day to do things like dentist appointments and eye appointments and study!!!
Has anyone considered a nanny? When I was working on my masters degree I was a live-in nanny for a family with four kids. I didn't make a much actual money ($300/month) but my living expenses were completely covered (room, board, food, car w/ gas during working hours). The only expenses I had were gas in my own car if I needed it and I did choose to get healthcare (it wasn't required at the time) for around $80/month. Obviously a live-in isn't ideal or desirable in every situation, but our something to consider if it seems like an option. I found my position at www.greataupair.com
@eatinwatermelonseeds That sounds real scary and painful! I hope you're feeling better. So was this pain actually worse than childbirth like they say? The way you talked about it though, seemed like you were nonchalant about it. But that could be because you have a high plain tolerance. It seems like so many of us are having kidney problems. I don't remember this being an issue in my past BMB. Just interesting to think about.
@imrachellea if we were doing full time care with two, that would probably make more financial sense for us based on daycare costs here. For one, daycare was cheaper but just barely
@expandcontract not worse, but definitely comparable. I thought I was in labor just because of the intensity of the pain (well, and then a pink fluid puddle on my floor helped that fear along some). If I did pass it though, that part was... Unremarkable? They think when my pee was all blood that's when I passed it. But peeing wasn't difficult, it was just blood. And then the pain eased some after. When I first woke up though, I was trying to breathe through the pain, tossing and turning, and I believe it was the pain that caused the vomiting, because I had nothing in my system. It was pretty miserable.
I think daycare for two is slightly cheaper than a nanny here, but even if it wasn't, I couldn’t pull ds now. He loves daycare so much, which has been so wonderful. It’s (almost) worth it.
I looked up nannies after DS had been sick..I was terrified of daycare but needed to go back to school. $20 an hour plus $30 a day fee. So, nearly $1000 a week. We were making less than $4000 a month at that point so it wasn't feasible.
@eatinwatermelonseeds I’m sorry I missed the whole saga today! But I’m very glad you’re feeling better and it didn’t involve the baby.
We have a nanny. It is really common where I live. It’s so expensive I won’t even say how much it is here bc I’m embarrassed, but it is roughly what daycare x2 would cost. We love her.
The pros are: don’t have to get the kids ready/out the door in the morning (with twins and two working parents this is HUGE), don’t have to do pickup, don’t have to wash bottles etc after work or prep them in the morning, don’t have to do baby laundry, don’t have to worry about backup care when a kid is sick/school is closed for holidays.
The cons are: less socialization (for us I don’t really think that’s the case—our nanny has made them a ton of friends and they are in classes/have play dates etc—also with twins they already have a built in playmate), it can be stressful having an employee and being someone’s sole source of income, nannies are human and call out sick and take their own vacations.
The families I know who have au pairs LOVE the setup. It is much much more affordable than a nanny. However, it’s live-in and we just don’t have the space so we never considered it.
Re: Randoms Week of 1/6/19 - 1/12/19
BFP: 8/20/2018 - EDD 5/4/2019
@lovelybabybumpz I feel like we did once upon a time, but it was a while ago, I'm sure it's buried deep in the board. I'm not against doing it again
I had my first tour at a daycare today and I learned that I need to make more money.
