Half marathon/marathon runner here! I've haven't noticed a huge difference in my endurance since becoming pregnant but I'm exhausted so my motivation is blah.
My first appointment is Nov 1 so I've scaled back my miles and workout intensity significantly until I get the OK from my doctor (I'm technically a higher risk because I have history if LEEP procedure).
No matter what Im planning on changing my workouts because of a back injury...which will be hard...tons of guilt when I think about it....but I'm planning on biking and swimming more in addition to strength training to stay active and feel good.
@luckystar28 I’m with you, I used to be in shape before DD 3 years ago. And since then have just let myself get out of the habit. My plan is to just breastfeed and hope the weight falls off. Lol. Kind of a horrible plan, but that’s what I’m going with.

@sparklingdiamond I'm in the same position you are. I worked out regularly before morning sickness started. And I'm waiting for it to be gone before I start again. I asked my doctor yesterday if I would be ok to start again once I feel better and she said I can do whatever my body lets me. Just to make sure I really do listen to my body. So, I think I'm going to go back to the 80 Day Obsession program on BeachBody once I feel good again because I can lift heavier or lighter weights however I want depending on how I feel that day.
I'm pretty much just walking at lunch these days. I was an avid gym goer until a couple of years ago, HIIT workouts were my thing. I was in the best shape of my life until I broke my arm and wrist and had nerve damage that kept me out of the gym for a year. Then I was pregnant with DS and I didn't go very often. I've been doing IVF for the last several months, and you basically can't exercise while cycling, so I totally got out of the habit again. Going up several sizes has been tough, but I hope to get back to it later. No more running for me though because of hip and knee pain.
I'm kinda bummed. I am on pelvic rest so no workouts for me for at least 2 weeks. She did say I could swim but I would hate to know I was in the pool of I start having....Tw......bleeding from my subchorionic hematoma. I'm worried I may need to wear a pad just in case when I go out in public...end TW....
@luckystar28, maybe we have made a bunch of lurkers more comfortable with participation. We are a pretty laid back group. I mean, the only drama that we have had is over board organization.
Need an opinion. Our oven broke this week (sigh. Figures). We need a new one (we are hosting thanksgiving). When we first moved here in June we talked about switching all the appliances from white to stainless steel in about 4-5 years time. Well, now that we have a bum oven, we will probably only replace that right now, especially since we know our medical expenses are going to start piling up. So do we put in a stainless steel one and have mismatching ones for several years? Or just get another white one and call it good? Now that we have been here for a while, I actually don’t mind the white. Grubby toddler fingers don’t seem to show up as much on them as the stainless. Picture of kitchen in spoiler.

@meatballs37 Personally, the mismatch would drive me nuts. I would get another white and if it’s still in good shape when you decide to go all stainless, I would sell it or donate.
I've started looking into a new vehicle, I currently have Prius C, not the best for car seats. Our current stroller barely fits in so a double will not. Our family is out of town and I want to be able to only take one car when they visit. So I want three rows and captain seats so I don't have to fold to get into the back. I love my killer mileage, usually, in the 50s, all these SUV mileages in the teens are hurting my soul.
@meatballs37, from a financial standpoint (since my husband and I are working on this right now, I would go stainless now. If you get the right ones, appliances can last 30 years, and ovens aren’t cheap. I (again, opinion here, so take it with a grain of salt) would not be nit picky about things matching when you’re spending that much money. You plan to replace it all eventually anyway, I would look at this as a jumpstart to save yourself money down the road, rather than as a stopgap or patch (which it sounds like a temporary oven would be) and that will ultimately cost you more money in the long run that could be spent elsewhere.

@meatballs37 If you eventually want stainless, I would do it now. Our refrigerator broke last year, so we upgraded to a stainless one. Now our dishwasher just crapped out, so we got the stainless to match there. Funny on the not matching thing - we have two ovens, one is white and one is black. It drove me NUTS when I first bought our house, but we've since got used to it.
@meatballs37 I'd go stainless. Maybe you'll find that you change over sooner and would be pointless to buy a new one in a year or 2.
@jehems I have the Buick Enclave and I LOVE it. However, the Ford Explorer is another great option. We buy used and the deciding factor was that the Explorer we saw didn't have captian seats in the middle row. We also didn't have lot of time to find one that did (DH had the recalled VW Jetta and we needed a new one before it went back).
@meatballs37 Id go stainless. Save the hassle of having to get used to different ovens. over a short period of time.
@jhems776 I have a GMC acadia that has been really good for us. I dont live super far from work so the gas mileage doesn't kill me that much but it does suck! The thing that I like about it is that MH and I are both over 6' and we dont have to adjust the front seats at all for a RF carseat. We were very picky about the 3rd row because we had 2 great danes at the time so I needed a 3rd row that folded flat so that they could fit and not be in contact with the baby in the carseat.
@meatballs37 To me, it depends on budget. If you were planning on something high end and can swing it now, go for it. Otherwise, I would buy something cheap and white to hold you over until you're ready to pay for what you want.
@jhems776 I'm in a similar situation. I love my SUV but it only seats 5. With 3 carseats across the back, we're getting kind of tight. I was looking at 3rd row hybrid SUV's, but they are so expensive!
@meatballs37 I hate having stainless steel with kids. I could never keep it clean. The finger prints drove me insane. If you are sure you want to switch over go ahead and start now. I wouldn't purchase 2 different appliances in such a short time.
@meatballs37 - normally I'd say go with that you planned for the long-term, but I've come to hate stainless personally. I think I'd vote white. I just can't keep stainless clean! It drives me insane.
@meatballs37 if you’re going to upgrade the entire kitchen my guess is you’re going to want everything to match. And if it’s going to be a few years it might be discontinued.
We were here in the exact same situation a few months ago. We are going to do a huge remodel that I nvolves adding rooms on two floors and blowing out the back of our house. We will get a new kitchen in the process. We bought a white stove for $400-ish and are either going to sell it or give it to a friend when we redo everything. We will upgrade everything else at the same time and get what we really want.
@meatballs37 if you're looking at appliances, look for the slate finish. I think that's what it's called. Its darker slightly than stainless but has a matte finish and doesn't show fingerprints. Kind of like a gunmetal finish. I LOVE it. I think our appliances are Whirlpool? Although I'm not in love with our ice maker in the fridge, so just change it right before you move, if that's the plan hah!
Thanks everyone for the oven advice. I think we might just get a nice white one. The finger prints will likely drive me crazy! But I’d love to get a nice one we can have for a long time.

@meatballs37 - I think the appliance companies are catching on that people want options because I've seen some really sleek looking appliances in black and white the last few years!
@harrierwife gosh I hope so. I was kind of hoping the dishwasher would die first here. But alas it’s the oven which I was the most ok with. I definitely want to get a convection oven like we had at our last place. FC we can find something reasonable that looks updated in white.

I went out to dinner last night with a few members of H's family. H is still at home in MS and warned me to be extra careful about not drinking in front of his family (they're huge winos). I thought I was in the clear because no one said anything to me about passing on a glass of wine, but .....what do you know...
H's aunt pulled my mother aside as we were leaving and asked if I was expecting because I wasn't drinking. My mother doesn't know yet and insisted I wasn't. I've been hiding morning sickness and serious fatigue (I can barely keep my eyes open) all week while visiting my family and somehow no one's caught on. Maybe I'm a better actress than I thought? I did have the wherewithal to tell my two brothers before I traveled home and they've really helped to cover my butt lately. (ugh, they're the best )
I suppose I'm here to complain about why not drinking on a Wednesday night automatically makes you suspect. What if I just don't want to drink? Why isn't "I don't want a glass of wine," an acceptable answer? Why do others feel entitled to the current status of my uterus? And mostly, ARE SIDE WHISPERS REALLY HOW YOU WANT TO FIND OUT IF THERE'S A BABY ON THE WAY????
@meatballs37 - re: hoping the dishwasher would go first - ain't that always the case! FX for you! I really think you'll be pleasantly surprised with your options! And I convection, too!
Benefit to not being a drinker! Although when I was preg with DS a new girl at work questioned me at the Christmas party. She noticed I was passing on all of the alcoholic yankee swap gifts and found it suspicious and asked me if I was preg. Obviously I lied and said no. But it made for a good laugh for my boss and I, and the girl later on when I came clean.
@harrierwife ugh people are the worst. Like maybe I don’t want a glass of wine every now and then. Geesh. Hoping you are able to get home with secret in tact.

@meatballs37 I've been replacing my appliances one by one with stainless. The stove was the first one I did, and I went all out and converted it to a dual fuel with gas stove and electric oven. We cook so much that I felt justified to splurge. We replaced the fridge before DS was born, and now we just have the dishwasher left. It hasn't bothered me as much as I thought it would.
@harrierwife Ugh, this happened to me with my parents last weekend when we went out to eat. I actually ended up ordering a glass of red wine and took a couple tiny sips, and then DH drank the rest of it when they weren't looking.

Hahah, yea it's sad/funny that a girl cannot pass up a drink without being analyzed. Admittedly, while out I'm not one to pass up a drink, which is known. This led to me telling my coworkers days after finding out because I was on a business trip. They know me really well and I had already passed up a drink once and was asked about it all afternoon so when dinner hit and I'm usually the one to help select the bottle of wine for the table and made a face I just told. I'm terrible at secrets. Oh, funny story. I was living at home at 21 and my parents said how they didn't like me to have one beer at home and then going out. Well, my dad and I watch a couple shows together and we normally have a beer during, so I stopped having the beer. After a week or two of this, my dad asks my mom if I'm pregnant . Like come on, I'm just following your rules.
@meatballs37 we are getting ready to redo our kitchen at the beginning of the year and I’m specifically looking for white appliances. I’m over the stainless and the cleaning. They have some really nice and updated white appliances now. I think it’s worth it to get something nice rather than have to replace it again in a year.
@harrierwife people indeed! My side of the family would never mention anything even if they suspected but I'm just waiting for DH's mom's interrogation... We are keeping the parents apart until further notice.
@meatballs37 I'm also in camp white appliances! Shopping for a new oven sounds like fun, thankfully you have some time before Thanksgiving to get to know your new one!
I am en route back from my exhausting and demotivating work trip (long story). Only 20 more hours until I'm in my own sweet bed.
I've been reading Expecting Better by Emily Oster this week. I'm probably not going to change my behavior based on her book, but it is making me feel much less stressed out that I'll do something wrong. Realizing how many mathy/numbers people we have on the board, I'd recommend it for the research, even if you draw different conclusions.

Glad to see there are other runners here! I did my 4th half of the season last weekend which was fine but my shorter runs this week have been kicking my butt!

Vent: I'm tired of my MIL butting in whenever she decides to. My mom babysits for us every day. Today she was taking DS to her house for the day so she can do some stuff. MIL found out and decided that instead of me getting DS or my mom bringing him back to me like normal that MIL would get him when she get off work. And then take him to her house. And have DH pick him up from her. Like whhhyyy? 1. She doesn't have a car seat so my mom would have to give her hers. 2. DH drives a work van so he would have to come home get his truck and then go get DS. 3. She didn't ask me or DH if this was ok. she was just going to do it. That's what bugs me the most. DS is NOT her kid. And she needs to stop making plans like he is and doing whatever she wants. She's crossing the line of appropriateness with my mom a lot lately too and it has me so on edge right now. If you made it through that novel thanks for listening to my vent.
