Randoms week of 9/10

Has this really not been posted yet?

Here's a random thing: At the end of your pregnancy, your placenta alone will produce the same amount of estrogen that a non-pregnant woman produces in 3 years. I don't feel so bad about all the mood swings and late-night demands for DQ Blizzards anymore.

Re: Randoms week of 9/10

  • Another random thing - anyone looking at a belly binder (or have experience using one) for postpartum? Do they live up to the hype, or is this a silly idea? If you have one and just love it, give us a link to look at!

  • When did you take the test, @Jens_Hoes?

  • @texas_t Wow, you are a trooper. Moving isn't easy even when you're not pregnant..

  • @runrinserepeat I was actually thinking about posting a separate thread for that at some point. What kind there are, which are best, prices, etc. I bought one off amazon last time and it was from China or something, it came in three pieces and they didn't even send all the pieces! They wanted me to take pictures of the pieces I did get and send that to them, as well as mail them the extra piece...all while taking care of a newborn. Umm.. No.

  • @runrinserepeat I didn’t use one last time and never really thought to. I’m not sure if it would’ve helped. Someone around here has been talking up the belly bandit and I’m thinking about getting one, but they are a little pricey.

  • @runrinserepeat on Thursday.  The nurse told me that because of Labor Day the lab was a little backed up, but that I should know by Monday morning.  Well, it's monday morning and it is not uploaded to my damn patient portal.  I am calling at noon if it isn't there then.

@temmetime For my last job I could earn time as long as I was being paid.  So I went six weeks paid and six weeks unpaid.  I earned sick and vacation time for those six weeks but didn't for the second half.  This time around I'm going fully unpaid and won't earn time or retirement credits. BOO.
  • That's nuts, @jens_hoes. I had my results an hour after they took my blood. How long could it really take?!

  • So random, I happened to see a picture of our house decorated for Christmas while looking for something else on FB yesterday and I had the urge to decorate now because I doubt I'll be feeling like it after Thanksgiving when I typically do. How early is too early? haha
  • @Jens_hoes that's a big BOO! :( I get 6 weeks paid (only 100% for the first 2), and using PTO for the rest. However, I don't earn a drop of PTO that whole time.

@lippy625 too early for me personally, but I am a fall nutso freak, so I am decorating for fall now and will leave it up as long as possible in hopes that it scares off winter a little longer. :D

  • I'm going to earn PTO while I'm on PTO, but I can't earn it when I'm on unpaid leave. And I don't have much PTO to use, so it'll get about 2 days out of it...

  • I'm in the same boat.  Can earn PTO while I'm on PTO, but not on unpaid leave.  I think I'll only have two weeks total PTO saved up by the time I have baby.  My work lets me take up to 6 weeks of advanced PTO, but then I have to pay it back.  I'll actually still be paying some of the PTO from the last baby when I have this one.  I anticipated it and am preparing, but it still stinks and I hate losing the accumulated PTO and holiday pay when I'm on unpaid leave!
  • For @Jens_Hoes & anyone else with littles who are team green - my D16 BMB shared a wives tale about your youngest child's hairline at the back of the head: if the hair is straight across, your next child will be the same sex. If there's a peak/uneven, then you'll have the opposite sex. Just a fun one I haven't heard of and thought I'd share!

  • @lippy625 I was thinking we'd decorate early-mid November. That way it's not too insanely early but I don't have to worry about it at the end of my pregnancy. Granted, we never actually took our wreath down lol, so our house has been partially prepared all year! But we'll put the tree up in November.

@Jens_Hoes yay for passing the 1 hour!!

  • @temmetime @snugglyduckling25 @CecilB93 I definitely won't be decorating now even though the thought crossed my mind, my H would think I was losing it  :D He loves the holidays but hates putting up a tree so I usually do it on my own the weekend after Thanksgiving. He will just have to suck it up and help this year! Fall is my favorite holiday but I never really decorate except to put out fall scented candles which I did this weekend because it was super chilly here.
  • @lippy625 I am also the one who puts up the tree and all Christmas decorations. I am going to need a lot more help this year! Last year my kids were begging me to do it a day that DH wasn’t home. So my then 8 year old and I somehow managed to get the tree up the stairs. I will definitely NOT be pushing a giant tree up the stairs this year.  :D
  • Quick question re: newborn photos! Does the photographer usually bring the trinkets/baskets/whatever for the cute display, or do we as parents come up with our idea and provide all the stuff? I was thinking about that today and realized I had no clue!
    BabyFetus Ticker
  • @omnommer Our photographer has all the stuff and generally doesn't allow you to bring extra things (unless you discuss with her first - it's for baby's safety).

  • @kristah2 damn, you have been CRAZY productive!! Jealous. I literally started crying when I looked around this apartment and realized how much cleaning, organizing and general THINGS we still need to do. Struggling to cope.

@runrinserepeat Also interested curious in postpartum belly binders/bandits  :D@Jens_Hoes which kind did you or your SIL get? And congrats on passing your GD test! Nice work.
  • @omnomer I think it really depends on the photographer. Ours will let me know what she has or if she has any ideas she wants to try and will bring the props for those. If I have any ideas or items I want her to use, I typically have them with me.
@lippy625 I love Christmas, but I usually hold off until after Thanksgiving for decorating. I went into a store the other day and saw Christmas decor and it freaked me out about how soon this LO will be here!
    @jens_hoes YAY!!
@temmetime Looks like I may have a girl this time  ;)
@texas_t Wow! You are such a good daughter! I bet you are exhausted today, though.
@runrinserepeat That is good to know, so I can definately blame the estrogen. Also, I ended up with a c-section last time and the hospital provided me with a belly binder. I loved it and wore it for about 6 weeks. As @jens_hoes said, that was my first child, so I do not have anything to compare it to, but it really helped me not feel like my insides were going to fall out. Maybe you could ask if your hospital can give you one.
  • @shevsky I don't know what brand it was but it was one piece, and had velcro on one end so you could attach it to any other part of the band.  I assume its a relatively cheap version.
It wasn't this kind but this is what it looked like: https://www.amazon.com/UpSpring-Shrinkx-Belly-Postpartum-Wrap/dp/B00K7IOAT2/ref=sr_1_22?ie=UTF8&qid=1536606480&sr=8-22&keywords=belly+band+for+postpartum
  • So, can I say I am 7 months pregnant now? How does this month thing work? I'm 28+4

  • @runrinserepeat that's helpful, thanks! My brain says I can't say 7 months yet because I won't be 2 months from my EDD until the end of Sept. But I guess I'm going into my 7th month. Counting is hard.

  • @runrinserepeat oh thank you for posting that! I've been meaning to look up the week/month comparison. I knew third tri started around 27-28 weeks, but couldn't remember in months how far I am. I tell people in weeks and they're always commenting on how when they were pregnant everything was measured in months lol.
