@lest12 I second getting different car seats - much cheaper than a new car. I drive a Toyota Yaris (MH calls it a pepsi can because it’s so small) and we found seats to go 3 across in it. Not sure what we’ll do when we get to a convertible car seat with the baby, but we have some time before that happens and I know which seats I want to try.
@lest12 have you tried reaching out to the Car Seats for the Littles group on FB to see if anyone has suggestions for 3-across? We thought there would be no way for us to make it work in my car (I have a Saturn Vue and the backseat is surprisingly small) but after I posted in the group we were able to find 3 seats that work perfectly so I don’t have to get into a car payment.
@pumpkinpancake@tlmill@purplegoldfish2 - Thanks! I have checked it out. The problem is that I drive (lease) a Rav4, and I guess the back seatbelts overlap and so you can't use 3 across safely. Blah.
I think we could probably get 3 across in DH's car but he has a manual and I don't know how to drive it. Plus it's really old and in and out of the shop a lot so it's not reliable enough.
Thank you though! I wish I could work it out. I'm stressed about the $ but also just cranky because we're going to have to spend all of this money on.... a minivan. DH is obsessed with getting one and I'm just not feeling it. Please someone tell me how much they love their minivan and make me feel better, lol.
So I found out yesterday that my work is changing insurance companies for our health care benefits as of July 1st. With such short notice I was kind of annoyed. Then I thought about it and the good news is with the new company we get all new spending limits! So last night I went and got two pairs of glasses (just the frames) with my the old insurance company, today I'm going for a prenatal massage to spend up the rest of my limit. Then come July 1st I can get the lenses and have 4 more prenatal massages before going on Mat leave October 1st. I can also do some more physio on my shoulder after this surgery! #milkthesystem

@lest12 For the record, while learning a manual takes a bit of practice, it's not as hard or scary as it may seem. It's really getting used to getting the car going in 1st and sometimes switching into second. I miss my manual.
@lest12 I love my minivan. dh does too. it is so easy and convenient with kids, but also decent mileage and it can do so much more than a car as far as hauling stuff. we joke that we will continue driving one after our kids are gone (which is kind of funny but kind of not because my dad did that...)

I did try to learn but I couldn’t get the hang of it. We live(d) in a major city too and eventually my husband got sick of the stop and go traffic with a manual car. I was secretly happy I didn’t have to continue to learn.
My 3 year old told me her friends parents have a minivan and she wants us to get one. Not yet kid!!! We have a CRV and a Subaru Impreza hatchback. We are worried about the hatchback with two car seats but I may switch cars with Dh since I can sit closer to the steering wheel. So I’d take the Impreza even though he loves it.
@lest12 - Go for the minivan. It may seem like a painful decision now, but I don’t think you will regret it. Remember also that in just a few short years, you will also be trying to haul around soccer teammates, Brownie troop friends, etc. There comes a point where you have to give over to utility - and some SUVs just don’t have it.
Z was a week late, so I'm assuming I still have a good 17 weeks to go and it feels like FOREVER!!! Also, you're going to regret it if you come a week late baby. You'll have to share a birthday with Z and people will call you twins. Please be prompt.
I agree with @knottieamusements. If you can spring for the van, do it! I would totally if I could, but we replaced DH car next and he wants a truck. Otherwise you can never have passengers in your car. Plus a van is so easy to getting stuff in and out of or long trips.
Our office is closed today, which I'm sure y'all can tell from my 10 billion posts on the UO thread. I'm literally just sitting here waiting for the phone to ring and trying to get my hours. I need to turn Netflix on or something. Lol
I'm actually a little panicky over the fact that I have only 17 weeks to go. I remember getting to the 17 weeks mark and that was no time at all. Even though we have everything we need for this babe, I do not feel ready at all! Plus ODD was born at 38 weeks exactly so it could even be closer to 15 weeks than 17 weeks. It's such a weird state of mind to be in: I can't wait for this baby to be here but 17 weeks seems like such a short time!

@mytrueloves - The only reason I am not panicking about being less than 15weeks is that my Mom is coming for a week in early August to help paint and set up the nursery. That is also the week for my Baby Showers. So by the time Mom goes home, everything will be set. Theoretically. I hope.
Oh, yeah that was bad. I tend to stay out of any conversations related to IF because it's not something that I know about and I'd hate to say something insensitive. Those ladies have been through enough already.
Just reminds me of some mean girl from high school turned kombucha drinking free love yuppie when she mentions that people should just...get in tune with their bodies. Go fuck yaself.
That was bad. Not sure how she didn't realize how insensitive that would come across, and to have it pointed out nicely and NOT apologize and get all defensive about drama just means she likes the drama!

Eeeshhh...tbh I feel like if you didn't struggle, don't mention how long it didn't take you to get pregnant. Or at least don't post in a thread like that...
Yeahhhhh...that was bad. Sure, it doesn't hurt to be in tune with your body. But if that solved all infertility problems well then we wouldn't need clinics, chlomid, IUI, IVF etc. Just sex ed apparently...
I think I'm avoiding thinking about how close 16 weeks really is, because of what is going on at work. I have 3 days in the office and 1.5 days working from home before I'm on vacation for a week. Once I get back I have to run testing on our HRIT system and get through a debrief on our Benefits Open Enrollment process. Those are the main 2 things I need to accomplish at work. Hopefully then I can focus on home stuff.
Oh man. I don't even know if I want to go look at that thread... I hate when people assume that you can *just fix all the problems* by being in tune with your body. No amount of being in tune with my body was going to fix our MFI, and I don't think men can just will themselves into having more/morphologically correct sperm.

ETA: okay. I caved and read it. She's even more delusional than I previously thought. Believe me, no one with IF wants it and the vast majority of the couples going through it are tracking bodily changes down to the hour. Many of them can also tell you more about fertility than most non-RE/OB doctors. Tone deaf doesn't even begin to cover her responses.
@slitzee in catholic school we had “leave room for the Holy Spirit”.
Ladies try not to panic. Just remember, baby just needs some diapers, basic clothes, blankets boobs/formula/bottles and a safe place to sleep. All of the other details will happen, but if they don’t happen before baby your baby will not think any less of you!
Im sorry I don’t k ow how to spoiler. These pictures are from DS. The empty picture is from 32 weeks after we painted the nursery (the box is the crib). The second picture of the giant mess is from 36 weeks and the final picture is 39 weeks when we got everything done.
Well it's official: ODD has strep throat. And she already spread it to me. Ugh.

Poor DH has something wrong with his back. I made him to to the chiropractor and then get a massage. He's never had an adjustment before. I'm hoping he feels better. I decided to go in too after my headache yesterday and today.

@knottieamusements my husband keeps telling me function over form!
Thank you guys. Everyone I talk to loves their minivan and says it was a great decision. So... I guess I'm going to take a leap of faith on this one.
@cdepperschmidt - I did get a little sticker shock on some of the prices!
DH's ex said she loves her minivan, although they're just doing some work on it before it goes to her BF's mom. She also has a Suburban.
i love my Explorer now that I've gotten used to it. i'm glad we made the decision to go bigger.

And then there's the whole birth-is-finally-becoming-a-reality thing. This week that's all my mind wants to think about.
