Sh!t just got real. DH & I went to IKEA this evening and came back with a crib, mattress, sheets, and sippy cups that look like hedgehog faces (DH picked them out ). Also I told him my crazy idea of repurposing an existing cart to use as a changing table, and he liked it! EEEeeeeee!

@mag1cbeli3ver Camping on Lake George sounds great! My husband and I are driving up from DC to VT this weekend and are going to stop somewhere along the way. We thought about lake George, but still haven't decided. We won't be camping because we're going to a wedding on Saturday and camping that night. One night is enough for me right now. I'm bringing an air mattress too to make it more comfortable. I would definitely bring the snoogle if I were you!
I’m going to look at and hopefully buy a digital piano tomorrow. It’s been years since we had a piano in the house and even then it was so terrible that we ended up giving it away. I’m sooooo excited!
@texas_t I am so looking forward to it!! Melting Pot is amazing! Their new pretzel bread with the cheese is amazing. And now they serve waffles with the chocolate. Oh my gosh. I can't wait to go and pig out. lol
@echo-charlietango We went to BRU to look at cribs yesterday since everything was super picked through but they only had three styles left and we didn't like any of them. We're looking for a certain color too, because we are using the changing table we had in DSs room and want the crib to match.
@runrinserepeat Maybe a stupid question... what is a digital piano? How does it differ from a normal piano?

@AdorkablePixie the sound is created digitally instead of acoustically. It’s basically a high-end keyboard, but it looks like an upright piano, has weighted keys, and will (hopefully) feel and sound like the real deal.
@rinserunrepeat That sounds cool! My MIL has a piano and I really hope we can get DS some lessons. He loves playing with it right now, but he's only two.

@AdorkablePixie I’d love to start teaching my kids. My daughter (6) started learning guitar a few months ago, but her hands are still a little small and I can tell she gets frustrated. And my 4 year old can only strum. Piano will be a little easier for them and still give them the idea of rhythm and notes.

I'm a genius and scheduled a health screening through my husband's work (that should give us a discount on our insurance) for 2:20 and you can't eat for 8-12 hours beforehand. I ate some breakfast around 6 am but I'm pretty sure I'm going to be dying by 2. I said I was pregnant in the questionnaire I filled out and there was no mention of changing protocol. Sigh.

I'm not working today and there is so much that i COULD be doing. However....here i am watching masterchef and eating cheerios with peaches for the 2nd time today lol.
Word vomit on kid stuff below, scroll past if you're not interested (which is totally fine, I get it!).
My kid just fell asleep playing on the floor for the first time in his life. I was in the living room journaling and he was playing in his bedroom; I went to check on him and he was in the middle of the floor sleeping, with his blankie as his pillow. It's unprecedented and I have no idea what to do! (I decided it's early naptime and closed the curtains and blinds, shut the door, and left. He's been sleeping for a half hour. We'll see if he makes it any longer.)
It's also making me question our transition to one nap. He's been on one nap for about two weeks now, but generally doesn't sleep any longer than an hour and fifteen minutes. He gets eleven hours of sleep at night, and always seems tired a lot earlier than I put him down. Sigh. This transition sucks.

I thought I could drink coffee again, so I got a Frappuccino. I found out quickly I don’t drink that yet. I had to run out of my bosses office. Luckily I’ve told her I’m pregnant. I feel better now.
@PensiveCrayon I totally feel you. I long for the day that my daughter will just fall asleep somewhere. I pray the universe will bless me with a baby that falls asleep easy after my first go around with my daughter was HELL. I also dread the 2:1 nap transition. We are no where near that as she just turned 1. I'm also sad that it is totally likely that her naps won't line up with the new baby's naps and I'll never get a chance to sleep again!! Sleep deprived strung out look is a good look right?
also, MY MATERNITY PANTS CAME IN AND I'M WEARING SIDE PANEL PANTS THAT FIT ME AND DON'T HURT
@Jens_Hoes Oh yeah, I feel you back, haha. This kid has always been on the shorter side of the sleep needs curve and it just kills me. I’m crossing all the everything that this second one compensates for him! He didn’t even start taking regular hour-long naps until he was around a year old.

@PensiveCrayon my son dropped second nap on his own before he was even 1. And even on one nap it was never more than 2 hours at most. He was pretty much done napping by 3 except for occasionally at school or in the car. The biggest reason he's excited for kindergarten is that there's no naps. Guy just hates sleep.

@PensiveCrayon@Jens_Hoes and @coco2787 I can completely relate! My son dropped his second nap before he even turned one, also. Now, we consider it a win if he naps at all and he’s not even 2 1/2. He gets so cranky if he doesn’t nap. He has also never fallen asleep anywhere random. I laugh every time I see people post photos of their child asleep in their highchairs or stroller or whatever. We consider it a win if we can get him to fall asleep in his car seat on a long car ride. Also, for whatever reason, if he happens to go to bed later than normal at night, then he is up by five or 6 AM. We are hoping that baby number two will like sleep.
@AdorkablePixie Happy Anniversary! Your dinner sounds amazing...enjoy! Confession: I've never eaten at the Melting Pot.
@PensiveCrayon My kid doesn't fall asleep in weird places either and it's always a huge win on the rare occasion she does. I hope this nap is a win for you guys and doesn't screw up the rest of your day! Going from 2 naps to 1 is a rough transition.
We should be getting the Counsyl results back within this week! DH kind of wanted to go out to the country and blow up some colored powder with Tannerite for a sex reveal (not like a party, just us and a friend or 2...I told him I didn't want a corny party). We don't know of any places near us and we don't want to drive back to KS to do it, so I ordered exploding golf balls since he likes to golf. We'll probably just do that in our front yard with a couple friends.
So funny, our biggest problem with DS is he likes napping TOO much. It's impossible to keep that kid awake some days - if he's tired, he'll just go to his room, crawl into bed, and fall asleep. And waking him up from a nap, even after 2 hours, is impossible.
He goes to sleep most nights around 7:30-8:00, and is awake by 5:30 more mornings. Which is actually an improvement, so I'll take it. We went about 2.5 years of him waking up before 5:00 almost every single day, so it's nice to have at least a few months of semi-normal sleep before LO gets here and throws everything off again.

Thanks guys. The nap didn't mess our schedule up too much. PT this afternoon was rough though -- he didn't want to do anything. I was planning on going straight to the commissary (a half hour drive away) afterwards, but I needed a nap since I usually nap when he does but didn't today. I put him in his crib so he could do whatever he wanted and maybe hopefully fall asleep, and he did!

@Jens_Hoes@PensiveCrayon my kid is on one nap now and it’s not too bad. And he can now fall asleep anywhere which was a goal. I feel like I never wanted to let his naps take over my life and now he will literally make it work wherever he is. Pic for proof.
(He fell asleep in the grocery store then stayed asleep in the car and for an hour at home)
@whaat I am jealous that he stays asleep. If DS falls asleep in the car for even 3 minutes, he wakes up when we try to transfer him and he does not go back to sleep even if we leave him in his crib.
@whaat I attempted that philosophy in the beginning but my kid never slept for longer than a half hour a time a time and it was driving me crazy. (Not that changing our napping strategy to a completely dark room with a sound machine helped but whatever. He’s just bad at naps.)

We don't know of any places near us and we don't want to drive back to KS to do it, so I ordered exploding golf balls since he likes to golf. We'll probably just do that in our front yard with a couple friends.
Married: 4/5/13
"You know that place between sleep and awake,
that place where you can still remember dreaming?
That's where I will always love you.
That's where I'll be waiting."
