@AdorkablePixie yes but it’s not good. Chances are very minor that she will I’ve to meet my baby, but I told her today while we were having a good cry together. Life is not fair, and cancer can suck a fucking dick.
@AGK2015 YES. I have been obsessing about this because it's so incredibly awful. Thank you so much for bringing this up.
If anyone wants to help - I spoke to an awesome staffer at Senator Feinstein's office the other day and Feinstein has created the the Keep Families Together Act in order to stop this horrific practice. It's up to 40 senators in support as of today, so if you (or anyone - hopefully everyone!) want to help, you can call your senator and make sure they are in support.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, separating parents and children this way will cause lifelong harm to the children. And according to basic freaking human decency, it is beyond my comprehension that anyone would think it's okay to rip screaming babies and children from their mother's arms. I just...it makes me so incredibly upset. Not to mention they do NOT have the facilities and staffing in place to properly take care of these children and babies. They have separated about 2000 kids from their parents in only six weeks and most of the facilities they are using are near capacity, so they're planning on building a tent city (A TENT CITY) in Texas, despite the fact it's already triple degree heat there, to house this kids and babies. It just can't continue. If you want to help in any way, please get on the phone with your senators if you can, especially if you live in a red state, and urge support of Dianne Feinstein's Keep Families Together Act. I don't usually post political stuff on the Bump but this is such a human rights issue I think it transcends politics as usual.
@whaat and @maureenmce ABSOLUTELY. It's... well, I don't really have words for it, but we're not powerless. Definitely making calls today; even though I'm in a blue state with decent reps, I want to be sure that they don't take this long down. https://www.callmycongress.com/ is a great resource if you're not sure who your reps are poor how to get in touch with them.
Also, I hadn't heard about Feinstein's bill, thank you for sharing! It's worth noting that neither the Goodlatte-McCaul bill (the Securing America's Future Act) nor the Ryan proposal (the so-called moderate compromise) include anything to stop family separations; so if you're making calls and the staffer on the other end of the line brings either supporting either of those up as evidence that they're doing something, PUSH BACK.
@runrinserepeat I know nothing any of us says can make things better, but I'm so sorry. We're here for you if you ever need to talk or vent. Big hugs to you ❤️
Not AW, I just wanted to let you ladies know that the move is going well. DH loaded my car for me and I got to Arkansas safely. I finish the drive on Saturday and will have the air mattress ready for DH when he meets me in Alabama. Yay!
