Quickening?

Re: Quickening?

  • I had an anterior placenta last time and didn't feel anything til about 25 weeks! But, I was also a FTM and didn't know what I was feeling/looking for. This time, now 13 weeks I swear I've felt some tiny kicks. Only a couple times. Once while I was yawning, but really.... at this point it could all be in my head, or just gas..... ;)     I think it's nugget though.

  • @tunnel Yes! I feel the RLP when I sneeze and cough. Not a fan.

I've definitely been feeling LO move. I'm 13w5d today.

  • I can't seem to decide whether or not I'm feeling anything or not. I'm on the heavier side with a bit of extra belly fat, so I'm not sure if that is affecting it or not. I'll be 18 weeks on Tuesday and this is my first.
  • @AGK2015 Really?? I loved feeling. I missed it once he was born. lol

@snreynolds91 I want to say that shouldn't affect it because you're feeling movement from the inside, not the outside but I'm not positive.

  • I was positive I was feeling flutters here and there ( STM so I know what I'm looking for) and then the past few days, nothing. I need some reassurance that everything is ok. Dr appointment is Friday so not looking for medical opinion just someone to say that this early it is normal for flutters to come and go...I'm 15w 4d and I hnestly can't remember when I delt it the first time around.
  • @rcultrona That is normal at this stage! I was lying still after eating some ice cream and m &m’s last Friday night and I’m pretty sure I felt the baby, but haven’t since. It is so early and you probably don’t have a ton of downtime to sit and wait for it as a STM.
  • @rcultrona my doctor has been very clear that I'm not to worry if I don't feel baby moving consistently. They don't start worrying about that until third tri, so we've got a ways to go!

  • @rcultrona STM here too and I’m feeling maybe sorta flutters on and off as well. Baby was alive and kicking as of an hour ago! But yes — this stage is super nerve-wracking. The WORST!

I was feeling some flutters and then didn’t for a bit. Now I’m feeling them more regularly (17+5). I think what you are describing sounds normal.
  • @rcultrona the baby is so small and there’s a lot more room to move around so it seems pretty normal to feel flutters on and off
  • @rcultrona some days I feel him a ton and other days nothing. On those days I have to remind myself that it is completely normal at this point, so I definitely get where you are coming from. I’m not a fan of this stage - not knowing how baby is doing. I’m ready for the every day movements!
  • @rcultrona My husband and I have various names for when I don't feel baby for a few days: walkabout, vacation, going exploring, wandering off. Movement is just not super consistent at this point.

  • @rcultrona it’s totally normal this early! Baby is probably moving a ton in there, you just can’t always feel it yet because they’re still small. I’m a STM too... I am currently 17 weeks. First time I felt this baby was sometime mid 15 weeks. Then I didn’t feel anything for a few days, then had a ton of movement starting at 16 weeks. Then mid 16 weeks, nothing for a few days. Then went to my doctor’s appointment... the heartbeat sounded great and baby kept trying to move away from the doppler. Went and had a pizookie and felt baby move a TON after all that sugar. Haven’t felt baby at all yet today, but it felt him/her a little bit last night. No need to worry this early about movement. It’s more than likely baby is just fine in there. It’s not really til the 3rd trimester that counting kicks is that important.

  • I am at 15 + 3, and I think for the first time I may have been feeling baby move last night. And again on my drive home today. It feels like its way higher than it should be though, so maybe it's really just gas LOL.  Trying not to worry much though, because as a first-time mom I really don't know what I should even be feeling for.
  • @rcultrona I’m happy you know she’s bouncing around in there!

I was hoping that lunch would perk this kid up, but apparently the chorizo gorditas and tamarind Jarritos just got him in the mood for a siesta -or- he’s still just too small for me to feel. One day!

I haven't felt many flutters, just a couple of stomps on my cervix

  • @echo-charlietango and @tunnel I'm a 21 week STM, felt baby #1 pretty early (she was pretty regularly noticeable by about 16 weeks), and while I had the occasional cervical stomp or muted nudge (things I may have questioned or not have even noticed had I been a FTM), it's only been in the past week or so that I've started to feel her pretty regularly (and still, if I hadn't BTDT, I might be questioning what I'm feeling). You're definitely still well within the realm of normal!
  • @echo-charlietango Do you know where your placenta is located? Mine was anterior last time and I didn't feel my son quite so early on. Plus I wasn't sure that what I was feeling (stomach twitches sort of?) was baby. In retrospect it definitely was. But yeah -- it was definitely after 20 weeks that I admitted it to myself the first time around.

  • @PensiveCrayon Not certain, but my OB said that anterior is not likely, because the heartbeat is easy to find and clear. Plus, LO definitely kicked the Doppler. We find out for sure next week at the anatomy scan

@AGK2015 I like “muted nudges” I’ll keep that in mind when I feel some candidate motions, thank you too for the vote of normalcy.

  • @echo-charlietango FWIW, I have an anterior placenta this time around and at my 15? week appt the nurse found the heartbeat immediately with the doppler.

  • @Jens_Hoes Damn! Oh well, time will tell.

  • @echo_charlietango Yep! I think I was 22ish weeks when all of a sudden I'd get stomach shaking movements. It went from little taps to huge kicks and punches! Now, I'm getting full on dance parties!

  • @asun123 Yeah, I was 21+4 at my appointment yesterday. And while baby isn't kicking away at pressure from the outside yet, I told my midwife that my husband had felt the baby for the first time this week. She was definitely surprised by that and said the baby must be strong. Lol. It's just normal for me to feel a dance party happening 6-8 times a day. And baby is constantly getting stronger. It's all super low still, but I assume that's since the ultrasound showed I have a fundal placenta, so the upper area might be "cushioned"?

  • @Katzalia I have been seeing movement for about 10 days now! (26+1 today). I even caught it on video to send to my sister. Baby girl has been hanging out in a position to kick my lower right side for a few days. Two nights ago, she kicked so hard, and so close to my right hip, that I had hip pain for about a minute!  :open_mouth:
