@jomama1618 and @pumpkinpancake Thanks!! It definitely feels like flips sometimes but I wasn’t sure if that was possible or not. Glad to know it’s not my imagination!
@spartan4life I kept feeling a rolling sensation from right to left last night across my pelvis area/undie line. It was super weird, and you can feel from the outside! I'm gonna assume it isn't gas lol!

Last weekend I was at a wedding and dancing and moving a lot. Toward the end I realized I hadn't felt her move in a while, and figured I'd just been rocking her to sleep, and that I'd feel her when I got home and laid down. And sure enough, not long after I got in bed she started going crazy. I was like, there she is!
@sliztee It truly depends on your Dr's instructions. Mine says to fast, others say a protein heavy breakfast. You'll want to check the instructions they gave or call them.
If you're allowed to eat, you want to watch your carbs and sugars. High protein for sure.
I did the 1hr at like 14wks around 2pm, and had my normal breakfast (boiled egg, fruit), and then some saltines mid-morning. My results came back high enough that she made me do the 3hr.
(Note- I have PCOS, which means my blood sugars run a bit high anyway.)
With DD my doctor told me no fasting and didn't give any instructions on what to eat/not eat. I made a smart move and had a grande cinnamon dolce latte before my test. I failed. This time I'm asking her what to eat very specifically.
My OB isn't giving me the GD test until 28 weeks. Seeing all of you have it so early makes me wonder! I have never had any blood sugar issues even with my PCOS so maybe she's not worried?
Me 33 DH 41 TTC since 2016 Due: October 12, 2018 Location: Ontario, Canada
I guess I’ll just call my OB’s office...maybe ask if I can do it first thing in the morning instead. Then I don’t have to worry about eating at all, right?
With my first they told me the GD test was optional, I chose to do it and passed. This time my doc hasn't even brought it up yet, I'll be 26 wks at next appt.
@chyvie 24-28 is normal testing time frame. I moved during that time so my old OB did the test a little early just in case I didn’t get my new OB lined up fast enough. New OB made me redo it within the window since that’s the time it’s most likely to develop. So even if you took it early and passed, you’d likely be asked to take it again anyways.
And just listen to your docs instructions on fasting or not. Don’t sugar load, but I’m all for eating your normal meals. You wouldn’t want to pass just because you ate some crazy low sugar breakfast when really you’d fail any other morning.
@chyvie - I was offered the opportunity to do it early, in addition to doing so at the normal 24-28 wks.
I have a couple of risk factors for diabetes, in addition to not having had any blood work done in a few years and my blood sugar generally being on the high end of the range. I think if my OB had a more complete history for me, it is possible she would not have offered.
I did it then because it made sense to me to do so. I know GD develops over the course of the pregnancy, but if screening earlier meant that I might catch potential issues sooner, I am for it.
My dr decided to have me do it early after I was having hydration/vomiting issues. Normally he doesn't do it early unless you're over 30. I also have PCOS and insulin resistance.
I have to do it again at 26-28 weeks.
For mine I go to the local hospital so I can go as soon as they open, which is what I will do.
My doc hasn't said anything yet about the GD test, at all. 20 weeks now, next appt is in three weeks, so I guess I hope she brings it up then? I keep forgetting when I'm there!
kmflick0913 said:So with my first she was big and I tore 3rd degree. With my son he came so fast that I ended up with a 4th degree. My MW stated that because of the 4th degree I would automatically be eligible to have an elective csect if I chose to.
I had a 4th degree tear with my first (7lbs 10oz). Recovery wasn't too bad but what did I know, I never did this before. My problem there was I pushed too fast. The second one (a mere 15 months later) I was like well I'm not doing that again. I consciously (through the pain - unmedicated) made sure to do slower controlled pushes. I had a 1st degree (I believe) nowhere near as bad and he was a 9lb14oz baby. Both boys came at 38w6d, I used EPO to start labor and it took both times.
I know every birth is different so I'm just going with that and hoping for the best. I was still up and about with a 4th degree - a c-section is major surgery also so I'd just go with the maybe I won't tear as bad this time than the for sure recovery from c-section. JMO.
What do you STMs recommend for bathing? With DD we borrowed a mini bath tub thing. It was ok, but she hated baths so we just showered with her. It really wasn't worth the screaming to give her a bath. We gave back the tub thing and I think they got rid of it now. Any recommendations on bath things that would also possibly work with a toddler in the tub? Or is that just a waste? We also have a bigger sink this time around so maybe that is a better option?

I think I'm doing my glucose test in 3.5 weeks (at 24.5 weeks). I'm terrified of it because I'm pretty sure I'm either going to puke up the drink, or have a massive anxiety attack/sugar crash, or both. Last time I ate a lot of sugar (it was pancakes lol) I got super shaky and dizzy and anxious so it's gonna be a grand ol' time. Yayyyy.
And just so not everyone freaks about the glucose test, I had no issues with the drink. Actually, the orange one was kind of yummy. No nausea. No dizziness (besides my normal blood draw anxiety). Some people have issues with it, yeah. But you may be pleasantly surprised.
My GD test is scheduled for 27 weeks. Last time for the 1 hour I was told to eat breakfast, but stay away from a lot of carbs. The doctor suggested eggs and whole grain toast. I ended up failing that one by 1 point (more likely to have GD with twins), and had to take the 3 hour. That one I was told to fast for.
I agree with the orange @tinattt23. It tasted like orange crush and I didn’t have a problem with it for the 1 hour or the 3 hour last time. I was also told by several people that the orange is easier to drink and tastes better, so I specifically asked them for it.
I also had no problem with either the 1 or 3 hr orange drink. The only issue I had was that my body feels yucky when I consume too much sugar, and I got that feeling with the 3hr version.
(Yes, it was due to the drink, but it is the same thing my body does for any straight sugar- as in a big corner piece of birthday cake and extra helping of ice cream would have the same effect on me.)
I also had zero issues with the glucose drink - which might mean I consume too much sugar in my daily life, as it just tasted like a sweeter orange gatorade or that orange Hi-C that McDonalds use to carry (that was my hangover drink in my 20's!)
I didn't have any issues with the 1 hour but the 3 hour hit me hard and I felt like I was going to die and had awful diarrhea which I was not expecting
With DS I passed the one hr test I did at 16 weeks. I re did it at 24 and failed but passed the 3 hr. I had no issues with the drinks for the 1 hr (orange flavor both times) but it hit me hard for the 3 hr. I was sick to my stomach for hours afterwards (lemon lime flavor).
I forget what flavor I had for the 1 hour test with DS. I want to say it was the lemon-lime one that kind of tasted like sprite? I don’t think it was the orange one, but don’t really remember for sure. Either way, I had no issues with it at all, so if you’ve never done it before, don’t assume the worst! It just tasted like a super sweet drink to me, but had no other negative effects on me.
@chopchop25 I only buy Dreft when it is on sale (so twice). We just use the ALL Free and Clear. They actually have the pods now too so I will definitely be buying those. DD never reacted badly to normal detergent though, so it might just depend on the baby.
@chopchop25 some might disagree, but I say you don’t need special baby detergent for laundry. From day 1, we’ve just used my normal natural/fragrance-free detergent on DS’s clothes, and we’ve never had any issues (and DS does have pretty sensitive skin, as do I). I feel like the baby-marketed laundry detergents are just trying to get in on the baby industry to get new parents to spend more money, but that’s just me.
@chopchop25 I used All Free and Clear for a couple weeks until it was clear the DD didn't have any issues with normal detergent so we used our regular Gain detergent on her clothes. I still use the All Free and Clear for Cloth Diapers though.
@jynjer91 I've always wanted to try making my own laundry detergent. My H has a customer that makes their own and he said it only costs like $19 and lasts for MONTHS.
The 1 hour glucose drink hit me HARD. Had trouble drinking it, after I felt dizzy/nauseous. I really just wanted to chug water and go to sleep. Talked to my OB about how stressed I am for it this time and she suggested two things. 1. I did the orange drink last time, she said ask if they have the punch flavor 2. Stick with protein focused meals for a few days before. She is hoping that will help me with feeling better this time around. Maybe it will help some of you who had some pretty bad experiences too.
re: detergent. We use (tide?) free and gentle for everyone in the house, baby will be no exception. DD has shown signs of sensitivity with fragrance/“normal” detergent and the free and clear has been just fine for her.
