Ah! At my a/s right now and they gave us a waiver form asking if we want to measure my cervix. I guess it's optional? Do I want to do this!?
  • Loading the player...
  • Would they do that by ultrasound?

  • @hellopartyof5 yes transvaginal ultrasound
  • I had mine measured via trasvaginal. My placenta is also close to my cervix so I didn't question doing it. Wasn't asked though, they told me at the beginning it would be done at the end. I had more comfort of a competent cervix with the measuring and they had me push to see if my cervix did anything while I was pushing.

    I don't see why not, @chopchop25...but I wasn't asked and didn't do it transvaginally.
  • They did it as part of mine, but it wasn't transvaginally.
  • I would, they could catch if it was shortening for some reason. I don't see any negatives tbh.

  • Awesome, thanks everyone for the quick insight! Was not expecting to be asked so the tech just said we will do it at the end if she can't get a good enough read bc placenta is close to cervix

Weird, I had mine measured just during my AS.. I mean can't hurt right so why not

  • STM+ with an anterior placenta in previous pregnancies: How far along were you when you really started feeling movements? I got confirmation today that I have an anterior placenta & while I am feeling some movement (at 18 weeks and not definitely baby movement - it could be muscle twitches), my boys can’t wait to feel baby move.

  • FTM anterior placenta and I started feeling baby 20w2d of course after the AS.
  • I'm so frustrated that I can't tell if I'm feeling baby or if it's just gas!! (FTM, 19+4) I've been feeling more rolling feelings the past few days, and some bubble popping, but I feel like it's usually at times I would be gassy anyway, or it's right now when I'm recovering from a stomach bug/food poisoning. Ugh. I'll have to wait until my AS next Friday to see if I do have an anterior placenta.
  • @purplegoldfish2 Around 21 weeks I could feel little somethings. It took at least another month before anything could be felt from the outside.

@purplegoldfish2 I can’t for the life of me remember when I first felt movement last time, but I felt my first kick last week at 18w exactly (with an anterior placenta again this time). I’ve been feeling other movements sporadically this week with a few kicks here and there, but still not super regularly. If I were a ftm and didn’t remember what it felt like last time though, I’m not sure I would recognize what I’m feeling as being baby.

ETA - DH was also able to feel a few kicks since last week, which has gotten him really excited.
  • @purplegoldfish2 it was around 22-23 weeks for me to feel definite movement and it took until maybe 25-26 weeks for my husband and son to feel it.
  • I’m a STM and even though this time I have an anterior placenta (I didn’t last time) I’m feeling kicks around the same time, 19 weeks. Or maybe this kid is much more active so an anterior placenta isn’t stopping him much.

  • Thanks everybody for your responses.  I felt definite movement last night, but nothing from the outside.  It’s just so weird to me since we could feel the boys on the outside super early (14 weeks 2 days). I keep telling my poor boys they’ll get to feel this one soon, but it looks like I should stop telling them that since it might be another month or more!

Has anyone else experienced painful cramping or contractions after sex? Im 21w and my midwife said a couple of months ago that it might happen but I haven't experienced it until today. No spotting or bleeding after but they feel like period cramps. It's been maybe 20 minutes and they still haven't gone away. I may just be freaking out because it's new to me.

ETA: I read online prostaglandins in the semen can cause uterine contractions up to 1-2hrs, yikes! Maybe this is what's happening?
  • I've read it's very common.
  • @jellybelly114 With my previous pregnancy I had that happen. My dr assured me it was normal though.

Hi! I had an anterior placenta with my first. I didn't feel him kick until 20 ish weeks. It was soft though. I mainly felt him on my sides at night when i was laying on my side. He would kick so hard against the bed i couldnt sleep. It was kind of annoying but reassuring. My husband Couldn't feel him until 24ish weeks. Again mainly on the side. This time mine is posterior and it feel soooo different . The feeling is more below and I can see him move as my belly moves. I couldn't see that with my first.

@jellybelly114 not after sex, but have definetly had on and off period like cramps and stomachaches for awhile. Nothing has come of it!
  • Really weird question here... Has anyone heard of not showering when there is a Thunderstorm? My DH told me that long ago and I honestly laughed cuz I've never heard of that before. I grew up with some thunderstorms, and never once was told that you might get electrocuted... Is this actually a thing?

  • @coffee-saur my mom told me that growing up! I don't know if it's scientifically a thing, but I still don't shower during storms unless I have no choice
  • slizteesliztee member
This actually made me giggle, @coffee-saur, and I'm surprised you weren't told this as a kiddo! The theory is that you could be electrocuted by conductivity, given that there is metal and water in the shower. However, this is just an old wive's tale. I do remember being genuinely afraid of this as a child.
  • When we lived in Texas, I avoided it for the same reason as @cagncoo12. Our power flickered all the time during storms and went out maybe 3-4 times in the 9 months we lived there. The bathroom had no windows and I didn’t want to be stuck in the dark with soap in my hair.
  • Yes, after sex the last time it felt like I had period cramps. It sucked.

Wow so that really is a thing! I thought it was probably an old wives tale. I would be just a touch worried because if it actually was true, I didn't wanna find out That way. But yea, I wanna avoid being naked and wet in the dark :flushed:
ETA: we're having thunderstorms this afternoon and evening and possibly thru the night.

  • Not sure what is wrong with being wet and naked in the dark...  The electricy going out won’t suddenly cut the water or turn the hot water cold (although if you have an electric water heater, you may run out more quickly- no idea how a demand heater might work...)
  • I've always avoided baths and showers during thunderstorms because of electrocution risk! Idk why, or if it's true, but glad I'm not the only one.
  • I have never heard that...
  • I was always told not to bath or shower during a storm as a kid. I was also told not to talk on the phone or watch tv.
  • I was always told no showering during a storm with lightning. It isn’t just a wives tale, many stories about people getting shocked and the National Weather Service still advises against it. Newer construction should be grounded to prevent it, but it’s still a risk in older houses.
  • I've never heard of it but I guess it makes sense if it's thunderstorming at night. I would be afraid of power going out and slipping/falling in the dark as I'm trying to get out of the shower.

This!  Newer houses are also more likely to have plastic pipes instead of metal like older houses.

  • @cdepperschmidt I was always told that as a kid too. They always made up shut the tv off and unplug it in case something was struck by lightening, thinking back now it was just to get us to go do something other than watch tv. We were so naive as kids
  • I can understand the TV one if you are going to unplug it like @jandmnumber1 said. We’ve had our house hit by lightning and it fried a couple of the appliances (stove and toaster I believe but can remember exactly). But i could definitely see parents using it as a good excuse to get kids away from the tv too!
