  • I agree about the baby talk. My mom talks to DS like that and it drives both me and SO crazy. If we say anything she runs to my sister and complains that we dont baby him enough.
  • @chyvie - keeping you in my thoughts.  Hope you get information sooner than later.
  • @chyvie I hope you get some answers today!

SS is super smart for a 6yo and has great vocabulary. His mom and nana speak to him (and treat him) like he's a baby still and it drives me crazy. When he starts talking in baby talk or whining, we tell him we can't understand him and he needs to talk like a big boy.

One of his classmates got lice either end of last year or beginning of this year. His mom never explained to him what it was and what it meant. It wasn't until the poor kid was telling us how worried about her he was and how he hoped she was okay and not in the hospital that DH realized he had no idea what lice was. He had to explain to him that it's just little bugs that make her super itchy and that she was fine and not hurt. SS felt so much better after that. The kid is smart enough to understand something like that. Just tell him, because otherwise his imagination runs wild.
  • @knottieamusements I don't remember how old I was when my mom told me that my sister's dad was not my dad. However, I was pretty young. And I really appreciated that.
  • @knottieamusements my parents told me I was adopted early enough that I have just always known.

@coffee-saur bless you for posting links!! It sounds like it wa that makes 3rd post in the community since February?! How intrusive to start attcking women who are mostly not there regularly anymore? I assume they made the jump to fb and that's why op waited so long to post thinking she wouldn't get much feedback?

@Chyvie thinking of you! Sorry you're having to wait long hours twice in a row, please continue to keep us posted!
  • Hey East Coast ladies....I'll have much of Tuesday next week to explore Boston before heading into Norwood for the night. What should I try and see? Any food recommendations?
  • cjx95cjx95 member
@sammierose464 I wish I knew Boston better to give recommendations! I'm how traffic is where your from but be prepared for it being horrible all the time lol
  • KFrobKFrob member
@sammierose464 I'm a nerd so I suggest the Museum of Science https://www.mos.org/.  You need @DunkinDecaf to answer this question!
  • I couldnt remember who's from there!
  • I absolutely love that @cdepperschmidt
  • @sammierose464 I vote a Fenway park tour because it's fun! Also love the north end for Italian food! Perhaps newbury street for some shopping? Could also go on a whale watch. There's lots of different museums if that's what you're into.

  • @sammierose464 I lived in Boston for quite a few years...so jealous you'll be there!

It depends on how much time you have and what you like to do, so some guidance there would be great to help us help you.
Agree on shopping Newbury, strolling the Common, then head down to the waterfront. Definelty stop by the North End for some treats and more shops, too. The historical sites are all mashed in so you will get some Boston history in those areas, too.
  • A friend mentioned doing the trolly tour. I get in around noon and have calls from 2-4pm. So I'm mostly looking at a few hours after 4pm. I like the history stuff, and of course shopping. I've always wanted to go to Boston, so I'm excited for it.
  • @sammierose464 the trolly tour isn't a bad way to see things given the time and if you like the history. If you're feeling well, though, you can grab a couple of walking maps from a local hotel and do a walking mix of Freedom Trail stops (spare yourself the whole thing, nor will you have time) + shopping + Boston Common. All around Gov't center you can visit some churches, sites, and cemeteries, then hop right onto Newbury or down to Faneuil Hall for some local + tourist shopping and eats. Still recommend over to the North End for a cannoli (insert argument here over which bakery is best) and Flour (not far from Gov't Center) is also one of my favorite places for sandwich/salad lunch and dessert.
  • +1 to what the others have said about Boston, @sammierose464  Enjoy your trip!

@sammierose464 duck tours!! Those are pretty cool, thst take you around and show you a few things then the car turns into a boat!
  • @chopchop25 Is there parking near those places? I'll have a rental car. I don't mind hopping on public transit or walking a bit, just need to make sure there's somewhere to park. I like the idea of doing a self-walking tour of the Freedom Trail and some shopping. And of course a canoli sounds amazing.

    Thanks everyone!
  • @sammierose464 Many lots, but parking is not cheap downtown. At least $40 and worse if the Sox are in town. You could drive over to Braintree and take the red line in - full mass transit will take 1+ hours from Norwood and mix of modes. If you and your friend are down to split parking I'd just pick a lot somewhere downtown to max out your time in the city...rush-hour depending. Definitely check if the Red Sox are in town as this will determine how bad traffic and mass transit will be, and see if your hotel does have a shuttle.

@DunkinDecaf might have some better thoughts on mass transit.
  • Looks like there's a game at 7pm that night. I'd be parking around 1pm though. I don't really want to drive to Norwood and then travel back in. The downside to city parking!

It'll just be me that day. My coworkers aren't getting in till late. I don't know if I can justify charging parking to work...hmm.

@sammierose464 I'd say it's worth the splurge on the day you're looking forward to :) Where are you driving from? There's big lots for a few bucks at the end of the red line (on any end), that can take you right to Park Street.

Feel free to PM if you want to talk more logistics and we can spare everyone! :)

@chopchop25 I'll be getting a rental from the airport. Im wondering if it would make sense to take the silver line from the airport to Park St and then head back to the airport after to get the car?
  • I wouldn't go back on the silver line. Boston public transportation is not fast. Any way your coworkers can get the car instead and pick you up? Or are you getting separate cars?

Food: breakfast (if you’re downtown) mike and patty’s in bay village. It’s about a 10 minute walk from the public garden. Call ahead, order a fancy to go and walk back to the public garden to eat. For lunch or dinner, summer shack 100%. Get a cup of chowder and a lobster roll. If you land in the north end hit mikes pastry and eat all the cannoli.

I don’t really care about baseball so no opinions there. Have you done the classic touristy stuff like fanuiel Hall and the freedom trail? If weather is nice that’s a popular option, assuming you don’t mind crowds. If weather is bad the New England aquarium and the science museum are fun. The Omni theater at the science museum always has cool nature-y movies and the experience in there always blows my mind. Will you have SS with you? Duck tours are a hit for kids, or if you have a couple hours you could do a whale watch. I wouldn’t bother with shopping on newbury unless that’s really your thing. They have stores in every city. The public garden is lovely though if you’re going to be downtown, and there’s an ice cream truck that’s usually there off of the south east corner (corner of boylston and Arlington) that I love. I usually park in the lot under the Boston common, which is about $30 for the day I think. I don’t know Norwood so I can’t speak to what your options will look like for public transportation. The T is quite convenient though if they do have a stop near where you’re staying. The Museum of Fine Art is also awesome, and on the T line. If you’re by yourself for the day that can be a lovely afternoon.

  • Thanks @DunkinDecaf

My coworkers don't fly in till 10:30pm. So I'll be on my own. $30 isn't bad when I'll be there most of the afternoon.
  • @sammierose464 don’t quote me on the parking fees, it’s been a while since I’ve parked there. ILs live in back bay and usually have an open space at their building so i only use the common lot if they don’t have space. It is a reasonably priced lot for the city though.

If it were me, I'd skip the car rental and use public transportation or Lyft @sammierose464

  • Crazy day, so responding to comments pre-Boston—

Thank you to the ladies who had suggestions about talking to Blast about having a donor father.  That is very helpful.

(@sammierose464 - Have fun in Boston!  I haven’t been that way in over 10yrs, and have always been sad I couldn’t play tourist that trip.)
  • @chyvie ugh I'm sorry you're dealing with all of that, especially a non-cooperative Dr! You'd think with you being pregnant he'd be more attentive.
  • @chyvie ugh sorry your infection spread, but at least you have a game plan now! Hopefully they can get it under control and you’ll be good as New soon!
  • cjx95cjx95 member
@chyvie so glad you have some answers and a direction to move in! I'm sorry your Dr isn't seeing you and just dismissing this, hopefully when the culture comes back he'll see it's serious!
  • I'm so sorry you're dealing with this @chyvie! Hope your doc turns his attitude around soon.
