@chopchop25 I’m a bit late here, but im sorry about your dog! It’s so hard when a pet is sick or suffering, so I hope you can enjoy the rest of the time you have together.
@knottieamusements I’m cisgender but I work at a nonprofit org where we’ve talked about the linguistics of sex a lot and I think you captured it well.
I’m a big grammar snob and they plural thing “they” used to bother me a lot but 1. As you pointed out, there are exceptions made all the time already in everyday use cases and 2. if occasional “incorrect” grammar makes an underrepresented group or person feel more included in society then that’s more than a good enough reason for me.
I use "they" for the baby right now. Calling it "it" just seems strange to me, and the amount of times I get asked if I'm having twins because of it is comical. I'm not calling my unborn baby "it", just not happening.
I used "they/them" for baby until I found out it was a boy. Someone questioned me asking if I was having twins. Nope, its just nicer to use "they/them" instead of "it".
I call baby it. I haven’t really thought anything of it, but maybe because I had twins last time and called them they, it seems more natural to me. I also keep getting asked how many I’m having this time, so that might be part of my very clear singular distinction.
The weekend I decided to start telling my broader group of acquaintances, I was attending a con that had pronoun ribbons for the name badges. I stuck a “They/Them” ribbon below my “She/Her” ribbon.
The people who knew kept asking if I was having twins, and the ones who didn’t were very confused. If I had been thinking, I would have used “Xe/Xer” instead- but several people would still have been very confused...
Edit for what I am sure may have been a Freudian slip (people=problems)
To go along with the discussion about is “they” correct, is “xer” correct? It works for her, but the masculine form is his, so it doesn’t really seem to fit.
I think xe/xer is like he/her. (just a guess from what I have seen and heard, sorry if I am wrong!) Not sure why there are two if it is supposed to be neutral.
Has anyone bought from Pink Blush Maternity? I have an engagement party at the end of the month and am thinking about buying a dress from there. Reviews?
@lest12 I didn't personally have a great experience with dresses there. I ended up with just two plain maxi dresses (same dress, two different colors) because nothing else worked on my plus sized, busty self. But everyone I know, of all sizes, raves about their dresses. Their customer service was excellent when I had to return the stuff that didn't work for me!
Thanks @knottieamusements! I was thinking similarly to @SweetSweetTooth only though xe was for he/she and xer was being used for her/his. I thought it was something pretty recent and didn’t realize it originated in the 70s.

I was very meh about my orders from pinkblush and I'm not busty. I did love my asos dress though!
Yesterday I told SS he should think about what he wants to make his mom for Mother's Day since we don't have much time with him before Mother's Day. About 2 minutes later he started asking me what I liked, clearly trying to think of ideas for a gift for me. He is such a sweet kid. He and his dad have gotten me something the last two years and it melts my heart.
Saturday SS and I were at T-ball pics and his mom showed up. He was so excited to see her and kept giving her big hugs and calling her name. I told DH that I can't wait for that with Griffin. SS mostly calls me Sammie (occasionally mom), it'll be really nice when I'm "offically" mommy to someone.
@lest12 I have ordered a bunch from them, and returned a bunch. It's hit or miss for me. The wrap dresses work fantastic for me-would totally wear non-pregnant. I wear a large. Pants? Not so much. Their legs are TINY AF. like super skinny thighs. I ended up having to go up to plus size 1X to find pants large enough for me. The quality is definitely a little less than what I normally buy (Nordstrom), but right now, I'm not trying to spend a lot, just trying to be comfy. They always have great sales though, and I agree, returns are easy and free! My advice would be to buy a bunch of stuff in different styles and sizes, because fit varies a bit. And order up a size, because in general, I find everything runs small.
For reference, I'm 5'8" about 165 pre pregnancy with thunder thighs, and normally wear a size 10 pants. Current bra size is 32F/G, possibly a 30 band. I have broad "man shoulders", hence the large in their wrap dresses. (Point is, my ribcage and upper body (except shoulders) are smaller compared to my hips, thighs, and butt).
@sammierose464 Surprisingly enough, I didn't not receive a single uninvited touch the entire time I was pregnant with DS. I wonder if it's a regional thing? Like friendly places are more likely to have people who are all up in your business?
I live in New England so I haven’t had to think or worry about Zika. That being said i am a few weeks away from a trip to North and South Carolina. It JUST occurred to me to look at whether Zika infected mosquitos have been reported in these areas. It looks like there is more possibility in SC than NC. Not sure if I should be worried, any precautions to take, or if i should be trying like heck to get out of this trip. Anyone familiar with these areas and hiw i can make sure my baby stays safe?
@tinattt23 same here, nor did I get any weird comments from random people. Maybe people in CA don’t give a shit... or my resting bitch face serves me well
I had my first uninvited belly touch this weekend. The person that did it was super sweet and either tried to sneak it in or realized what she was doing and stopped because it was really fast.... but it was also much higher than the baby, so she essentially rubbed some fat. I laughed with a friend about it later because it happened so fast and I wondered if she stopped because she realized what she was doing or because she felt how soft it was and realized she was touching fat. It’s funny that because of who it was, I wasn’t even bothered by it (although the whole too early for the baby to be that high was a little awkward feeling). I hated whenever anybody did it last time, no matter who they were.
On that subject..my touchy my co-worker..I informed my boss I was not responsible for what happened next time he tried to touch me in any way. I told him straight up I would bitch slap the guy at the very least. I’m very hormonal/angry lately so I can’t wait for him to try again!! Yes I’m a terrible person right now and I shamelessly blame my new aggression on the fact that the baby I’m carrying has a penis (even though it’s not necessarily a proven fact, nobody has argued with me lol)
@rabtaido1214 - Given that the only thing that seems to be safe during pregnancy is drinking ungodly amounts of water, I don’t blame you...
I had to make a choice between going to Cancun at 7wks pregnant or canceling. I did a bunch of research, and had a great time on the beach while covered in copious amounts of bug spray.
@chopchop25 I’m late, but have similar experience with my Frenchie/Boston mix. We did the surgery once but have looked at other options for future flare ups. The website and Facebook group called Dodgerslist is a great resource for crate rest and resolving disc issues with and without surgery!
Whoever was talking about pink blush (sorry have already forgotten and this app sucks I don’t want to lose my spot scrolling back lol), I’ve ordered a few dresses from there last pregnancy and have been very happy. I’m petite and they seemed true to size for me.
I really want to keep up with you all but gosh I hate this websites script I wish I could respond to individual posts when I’m so late like this. I’m here lurking and loving things for support though
So I changed this from the original meme to what it says now because this is how I look every single time I feel anything lol it's always gas as far as I can tell... But I thought it'd be fun to share
@knottieamusements thanks, for some reason I assumed that wouldn’t be safe during pregnancy but I was in a semi-panic and not thinking clearly!
My OB and pediatrician had the same advice. Get PURE deet (or the highest concentration you have) and put it only on your shoes and outerwear (light windbreaker if it’s hot). Deet isn’t good for you, but the risk from disease carrying mosquitos is far greater than the one it poses and deet is easily the most reliable insect repellant out there.
I'm at the point where I feel like no one can convince me it's NOT gas.
Seriously I had a twitch in my leg today that felt like a 3rd tri martial arts master kick, and now I’m doubting everything I feel ever. Given how gassy I currently am, and whatever else made my thigh feel like that, maybe I haven’t *really* felt a single kick yet. I’m annoyed and uncertain.
On the bug spray topic, pure and strong deet can actually melt plastics and some materials. So if you’re going to put it on clothes rather than you...be careful. I used a lower dose of deet on myself when clothed and just reapplied any time there was a bug around me. Bought the super strong straight deet and never needed it, but I could see applying that to ankles and wrists. I also just wore full length light clothes and made sure to shower shortly after sweating since I’ve always found sweat to attract them.
For most up to date risks for Zika check the CDC https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/page/world-map-areas-with-zika It appears there is no risk in the Carolinas so you should be good. A lot of the cases reported in the United States (other than Texas and Florida) we're travel related cases coming from a Zika zone. It takes no reported Zika cases for a year for the CDC to remove the areas at risk.
Just thought it might ease your mind to know.
Me 33 DH 41 TTC since 2016 Due: October 12, 2018 Location: Ontario, Canada
I feel like I’m gaining so much weight. I know everyone is different and all that, but I’ve definitely gained more at this point this time than my first pregnancy. It’s hard to not be self-conscious about it.
@knottieamusements Thanks for explaining! I have never seen xe/xer before, but I’m glad to see it exists. Maybe it will catch on. Also, good point with the they example. The English language is so odd sometimes.
@Lisa3379 I’m in the same boat. I just found a pic of me at 14 weeks with twins and I am bigger at 14 weeks this time with a singleton. I know you’re supposed to be smaller for first pregnancies, but there were 2 babies last time! I am also pretty sure I’ve gained more weight so far this time than last time.
FTM here and my weight hadn't been going up. It is now! Lol I knew it would happen eventually. And don't worry I am eating lots and not missing any food group
@SweetSweetTooth that’s how I was with my first. I ate whenever I was hungry and maintained my weight for a while. Actually, my body lost weight, I could see it in my face, but my belly gained, so the scale stayed the same. This time I’ve already gained 10 lbs in 14 weeks. Hoping my friend is right and I just won’t gain a lot at the end. ETA I am also starting this pregnancy 5 lbs heavier than my last one.
My husband’s company sent us the most amazing surprise welcome baby package last night. All adorable and climbing related (he works for a rock climbing gym) sharing because of the serious Dino love in this group. For context, the youth climbing team is the beasts.

I generally use xe/xer/xer, but have seen some of the other variations used.

Go to the store and pick up some bugspray with DEET. It is generally considered safe for pregnancy. Wear it anytime you are planning to be outside.
