I feel like the Star Wars obsession is never going to end around here. Today one of the boys was talking to my belly explaining to the baby about Jedi and Sith. The poor kid’s first word is probably going to end up being Yoda.
I’m formally resigning from work today. I was a teacher for 10 years at the high school that I went to, and loved every second of it. Teaching, that is, not being a student, haha. I took a year leave of absence and they called me yesterday to ask what my plan was. In my heart I’ve known for months that the best thing for our family was to have me home, but it breaks my heart to actually pull the trigger.
We leave for vacation tomorrow and all I want to do today is nap. I'm working from home and don't want to do anything productive. I also need to pack and I don't want to!
@Lisa3379 I suck at getting on FB anymore so I've probably missed this discussion with the D16 peeps but I wanted to say congrats on your new adventure!!!
@Lisa3379 - Scheduled lunch/dinner dates. That has worked for me for years. When someone moves away, I have a scheduled reminder to email them, so I don’t forget.
Also- have you considered volunteering or substitute teaching? That will get you time with your friends, and keep you networked if you decide you want to go back in a few years.

It will NEVER end. I was totally obsessed as a kid. Now DS has a Star Wars nursery... because I NEEDED it!!
So, I just went to search for something on Google, and typed in “How”. The third suggestion in Google’s autocomplete drop box was “How to delete Facebook.”
@krzyriver I was fine when it was Harry Potter. They were (and still are) too young to watch all the movies, but I let them watch the first 3 and they loved them. They played HP a lot, but it wasn’t constant and they didn’t ask me about it all the time. The Star Wars thing is getting annoying though. I don’t hate Star Wars and thought it was super cute for a while too.... but now? Now it is constant. Everything they play is Star Wars, everything they read is Star Wars (and they can’t read, so it’s me reading it all), everything they talk about is Star Wars, they talk in their sleep and even that is Star Wars. “Mommy, why did this happen?” “Mommy, why did that happen?” All. Day. Long. I’m getting Star Wars burnout.
I was invited to happy hour after work tomorrow, so I think I’m going to use that as an opportunity to tell a bunch of people from work so that I don’t need to make excuses for not drinking. Kind of nervous about telling everyone, but I’ll be happy to stop hiding it and having to worry about wearing the looser shirts in my closet everyday.
My project manager and his wife officially became US citizens today. They're from Germany (I work for a German company) and have been in the US for about 11 years. Naturally, we decided to celebrate... This is his office.
@kiwi2628 I had to buy one of those water bottles with a clock on it when I was pregnant with DS. That was the only way I could get all my water in. I need to pull it out again because I’m slacking.
@krzyriver the problem is at work I literally don't have time to drink. Like, half of my days I don't even get to eat lunch because I am running from patient to patient. Most days I go through my whole work day without peeing, so even with a clock it would just ring and ring because I would be in a room with a patient. Ughhhh. I should try to drink more water int he morning before work.
@purplegoldfish2 My husband loves star wars and the new movie comes out on his birthday every year so he makes us go. I’m going to make him handle all things star wars with kid since that will inevitably become a thing in our house.
@kiwi2628 - Making sure to drink water first thing in the morning is actually the biggest change I have made. (A cup that works for me being the second biggest.)
I used to wait until I got settled into work before I started drinking, but now I fill up my cup before I leave home. That literally gets me an extra hour’s worth of time to consume water during the day.
Guys, I just looked at our Amazon order history and laughed at the comparison of my orders vs my husbands. Most recently ordered: gym equipment and protein powder (him), cannoli shells and nursing bras (me) hahaha. He's getting fitter while I'm getting fatter lol.

@kiwi2628 I try and make sure I have a water bottle with me wherever I go. Even just having it on your way to and from work may help. See if you can strategically place a bottle or two in your practice. Is there a spot you are at throughout the day? Maybe the place you keep charts or something? Or a central place that you pass by often that you could grab a quick sip as you pass by?
@knottieamusements well the problem is that I live 45 minutes from work, which is the main reason I quit. 90 minutes minimum on the road each day is too much time away from my kids. If we lived closer, I might’ve worked 60 or 70% of full time schedule.
The one thing that helps is that my parents still live in the same town as the school, so that makes it easier to pop in at lunch time here and there to see people on days when I visit my folks. But yeah, we already have a girls night planned for next month, so hopefully that starts a good trend of hanging out sometimes.
@kiwi2628 omg you won't need to pee all night after drinking a liter??? I pee 3-4x a night and I usually only drink 12 oz max after 4 pm. Also, it seems my kidneys only function at night, so I'm not peeing during the day all that often despite me drinking water all day.
@kiwi2628 - Have you considered using the color of your urine as an appropriate measure of hydration, rather than a firm goal of fluid consumption?
If your urine is a light straw color, then you are drinking enough water, but if it is golden yellow, you need to up the amount. I got militant with myself about drinking the suggested amount of water becausein the last 2 weeks my urine was golden yellow all the time unless I was actively and continuously drinking water. (I’m 15w1d now.)
(I know it sounds gross, but this is actually how I’ve been keeping track of my water intake for years.)
Also, at a goal of 3L, your daily water intake goal is approximately 20% higher than mine. Nothing wrong with that, but you might ask your OB if that is an appropriate level of intake (assuming you haven’t already). (For reference, I weighed 225 pregnancy and work a desk job.)
Edited to add: I don’t mean to be a meddling nitwit, just offering a different perspective if this is a major source of stress for you.)
I had to use a conversion calculator because liter meant nothing to me. Lol. But I also shoot for 3L a day. When I’m on track, my urine is clear. That was the goal my trainer and doc both gave me. I’m 200+ pounds and work a desk job.
They say you should drink half your body weight in water every day (what I've seen in many of the fitness resources I've read). I'm at about 225 right now too and I aim for 100oz a day (which is just over 3 liters). I have a 30oz tumbler I try to make sure I drink 3 of a day at least. I aim to have 2 at work.
H just shared with me this thing he found on another site about sex prediction for baby. It might be one of the dumbest things I have ever read. The stats quoted for some aren’t even statically significant. Hope I don’t get in trouble for tagging to another site? Link is in spoiler.
@knottieamusements oh yea, urine is definitely something I look at, but that can also be deceiving. If you drink a liter in an hour, you will have clear urine, but if you are dehydrated, a liter may not be enough to rehydrate you, but because of the filtration rate of the kidneys, you will still have dilute urine. It's all about glomulerar filtration rate, which is influenced by level of (de)hydration, and rate of (re)hydration (among other things). I have measured water intake for probably a decade at this point, and 2 1/2- 3 liters a day is my sweet spot. I have a giant nalgene thy holds 1.4 liters a day so I try to get around 2 of them in, but sometimes it's hard, especially recently since work has been mad and I find myself more hungry than thirsty. I'm only 130, but I'm also fairly active and I love salty foods, lol.
@chopchop25 - Well, based on that, Blast is almost certainly a girl. Unless Blast is a boy. That is a distinct possibility, as the signs were contradictory.
@chopchop25 - I noticed that, but I figure I’m in an overlooked minority... I’d complain, but there are far more important social injustices out there.
I hate insomnia. I've been up since 2:30 am. Reading news, shopping maternity clothes.. just took a shower at 3:30 am and now I'm folding laundry. My highlight of the morning is now when my 2yo son wakes up at 5 am.
* Edit to add that I just clogged the toilet (which my husband said is a pretty high grade non clogging toilet when we bought it. ) Just plunged it. I didn't even lose a lb after!
