  • Ladies. What are you thinking for shower hostess gifts?

  • @dirtanddiamonds I did a mani/pedi kit that I made. Took a larger Mason jar, and filled it up with a scrubber, scrub, lotion, polish, toe separator . . . . that type of thing.

  • @dirtanddiamonds - do you know the hostess's favorite restaurant? A gift card would be so nice. Or a good bottle of wine that you know she would enjoy? Something similar to what you would get them for their birthday is what I usually go for.

  • @dirtanddiamonds my SIL makes some really awesome homemade soaps and I'm going to make some with her this weekend to make little gift baskets for my mom and sister (who are throwing the shower).
  • How much does it say about me that i didn't even think about a hostess gift until you guys just mentioned it? :( I'm glad I did though - I'll be sure to get one!
  • Got a parking ticket at my ultrasound today. I was too eager to get in that I forgot to pay the meter.  Somehow I am not upset about it in the slightest.

  • @lolog531 so glad your appointment went well.

@mrslittlemac I have a nutribullet too and have a smoothie for breakfast every morning. I’m obsessed.
  • My Amazon baby box came today! I can't wait to see what we got.
Also, I just keep thinking about all the yummy snacks I have at home. DH is on his way home now and he better not eat them all! When he gets home from work he is like a vacuum and eats everything not nailed down.
Please let us know what you got. I am still debating on doing one.
  • @ssthomps I can take a picture later but, I got an Advent bottle, one of those bandanna bibs, a swaddler blanket, and a ton of samples (Dreft, Diapers, Creams, etc.). I was pleasantly surprised.

Totally random here but I took LO to story time at the library today and after was playing with her in the kids area when this little boy ( 5 maybe?! I'm terrible at guessing kids ages) came up to me with a couple of puppets and said will you be this one? I said sure.. it was a girl puppet and he had the boy puppet and immediately started kissing/hugging my puppet with his. I made an excuse to get out of that situation immediately and  realized I am terrible at playing with older kids and would much rather stay in Elmo and Duplo land.. for like ever.

I’m terrible at playing with any kids that aren’t mine. This made me crack up, how awkward. I basically live in fear of a situation such as this one lol.
  • Please do a hostess gift! I threw a shower for two girls at once, one gave me a gift and card, one said Thank You as she left.  I'm still a bit stabby about it.

Guys the late night snacking is getting sssoooooo hard.....

I'm not normally a meditative person.  This pregnancy I've tried to simplify my life as much as possible to help prevent stress and anxiety/depression.  I feel it's helped.  I'm kind of considering some of those labor meditative things.  Does anyone have experience doing them? My labor experience last time was not something I want to repeat.  I know you can only control so much of it, but I feel like what I've done so far has been helpful and can't help but wonder if that would make a difference?

Also, I know it would be risky and people are probably going to say wtf about this, but I'm sure you all saw the thing about Seth Myers' wife delivering at home.  I'd secretly think it was so badass if that happened to me and everything turned out well.  Like, I'd be SO excited to deliver my own baby.
  • @mapleandbacon I have not done any kind of meditation personally buy my parents are both into Transcendental Meditation and it has been doing wonders for their anxiety and just overall mood. I'd say if it's something you're behind you should definitely look into it.

  • @mapleandbacon are you talking about hypnobirthing/hypnobabies? I haven’t done it, but I know people that have and loved it.

  • Re: Seth Meyer's wife...  My favorite part of that story is that they were going to Uber to the hospital.  Can you imagine being the Uber driver if she had delivered in their car instead?  like...I didn't sign up for this!

True but also, I'd love to be the Uber driver that drove Seth Meyer and his wife to the hospital. Even if she delivered in the car, like that's a famous placenta on my back seat.
haha gross yo.  I don't care who's placenta it is, it's gross to me.
  • I have a friend who delivered in her car. Her husband tied off the umbilical cord with his shoelace.

  • @calimom2524 I have a friend from my other BMB that did too.  It caused everyone to think she was a catfish, but she wasn't.
  • An acquaintance of mine had her baby around when I had my 3rd and she had an unplanned home birth bc baby came so fast, her husband missed it (he was driving from work) and her mom caught the baby. I don’t want dh to miss it but man that is badass and I’m totally jealous, secretly would not mind at all if my last baby’s birth was cool like that. And having just given birth I wouldn’t even have to clean it HAHAHA

@mapleandbacon I did hypnobirthing before my first. I wasn’t good about practicing at all but I still liked it... I’m very hypnotizable and good at self hypnosis and meditation so it was a good fit. I ended up not really being able to use it effectively with my first - his labor was reallllly tough that I couldn’t relax, but I totally totally was able to draw on the hb stuff with 2&3

  • Yeah, wouldn't it be cool?  My husband would freak the f out.  He's freaked by all things bloody but I can see myself stalling going to the hospital and wagering in my mind....could it happen here?  How much longer can I wait before I scream for drugs?

Hypnobirthing, yes, that's what I'm thinking of!  I'm going to start looking in to it.
  • @mapleandbacon  i'm not so much doing meditative things in prep for labor, but like you, am an anxious person and not on meds currently so trying to find other methods of coping in general.  It's hard but now that I am near the end, I am trying to see it through.  I may get something to have on hand for afterwards in case PPD happens though.

Mostly I try to distract myself with other things - it's worse for me if I am bored, especially at work.
  • I think DH would be fine if I ended up delivering at home, but OMG my dogs would be freaking out. The big dog rarely leaves my side and if he senses I'm upset he has to try and lick my face. I can only imagine wh
  • @lalala2004 I am so afraid that  my water is going to break on the bus or that I have to have the baby at work or something! I know with your first it usually doesn't happen that quickly but it's still a fear.
  • I think I'd love to give birth at home, it's comfortable, no people coming and going, just my husband and myself (and the dog and two cats coming to stare at me as I scream). It was always my desired plan when I thought I would have gotten pregnant much younger. But now I'm older, high risk, and I'm a coward when I think about all of the things that could go wrong...so a hospital it is.
  • Ditto being terrified of having a home birth (unplanned that is! Anyone planning a home birth, you're a rockstar!) or having the baby in the car. I don't know if we would have any idea what to do and we'd be in such a frenzied panic that we wouldn't be able to find our phones to call 911!

  • Oh my gosh yes - +1 to being terrified to deliver at home/in the car/etc. I mean, I totally respect the hell out of those women who do it - and I think it's totally badass, but I would just freak out. Especially since this is my first and I really have no idea what to expect.

Y'all. Last week, a student accidently knocked over my Darth Vader coffee mug and broke it. This week, another student accidently knocked over my starbucks travel mug and it's broken now too. *sobs* It's like the universe it trying to get me to stop drinking coffee..

I wasn't afraid of that with my first, but my birth was relatively fast for a FTM (less than 12 hours from first contraction to birth) so that's why I'm nervous this time! But I think I'll be OK, I'll just head up there at the first sign of labor, which I didn't do with baby #1. This is why it normally happens to STMs, they think labor will take longer and that they will have plenty of time, and then time runs out! Or they're waiting for their older kid/s to get taken care of and it slows them down.

^This is what terrifies me. That noone will be ready when needed to take L&E, so they will come with us/we will have to wait. Then *BOOM* baby #3 come at home or in the car. Absolutely terrifying to think of. I want all the drugs, and safety measures.

  • My mom had a friend who went into labor with her 4th and her husband dropped her at the ER so he could go park and in the time it took him to park and go into the ER she already had the baby.
  • Going to be bad at tagging and not doing it but I guess I was naive before because I have literally NEVER done a hostess gift. Granted, it's always been family giving my showers but...yeah. I will have to consider it this time. I don't want a shower but my MIL and her best friend and kind of insisting so I suppose I will have to do something.

I'm also scared of a home birth because my last labor was super fast even though I was induced. But DH caught DS1 (and I joked that I wasn't going to pay the doctor) so I know he could do it again. He's actually delivered a couple of babies.
  • @Firemanswife11 I've never given a hostess gift either. In fact, I've never even thought about it. I think because like you, it's mostly been family throwing showers for me. And I've reciprocated a lot.

I’ve been MIA for days. A sinus infection knocked me out of commission. Well, except for taking care of the kids...I still fed them and stuff. So, sorry for what I missed!

@mapleandbacon I’ve done Hypnobirthing and really enjoyed it. The training/study ahead of delivery is what I liked best. So relaxing. I haven’t gotten back into it with this pregnancy (#3), but, I’d like to. You can find Hypnobirthing recordings (not official) on iTunes if you wanna see what you think.

  • Does anyone else get weirdly excited about making it through another column of weeks on the week by week page? When I click on it and then scroll down to 2nd tri and see that I'm *almost* through the middle column, I get all the feels.
