  • @Austenista Ha! Sadly, it never came to fruition. She currently works for Passport, which I guess is good considering teachers in our area are having some major pension issues right now.
  • @elsie42 Happy anniversary! Enjoy your steak tonight.

  • @elsie42 happy anniversary!

    @dinodna3 that is hysterical.

  • @momac1919 Now that's just plain mean of them. Could you maybe ask to sit somewhere else? I always request an empty room to lay down in and I think it helps to keep my mind off things.
  • @kfren that's not a bad idea, maybe I'll see if they have an open room when I go in for my next stick
  • @elsie42 happy anniversary! DH and I always do couples massages for our anniversaries, and it’s the best thing ever. I introduced him to massages when we were 19, and ten years later he is fully obsessed. Best thing I ever did, I swear.
  • Thanks everyone!

@doxiemoxie212 they are seriously the best. We always try to get one if we go on vacation somewhere and we've done it for birthdays before too. I'm a little bummed I can't enjoy the steam room this time though!

  • @elsie42 I feel like you totally can for a minute or two. You can even do hot tubs for a minute or two. You just can't let yourself start to feel super duper hot, which obviously is the fun of those things, but sometimes just breathing the steam is really nice and relaxing too.
  • Happy Anniversary  @elsie42. Enjoy your steak and massages! Sounds wonderful!
  • @elsie42 Happy Anniversary! Steak and massage sound divine :)

@catlady1215 Yay! Hopefully you can rest easy this month.
  • @elsie42 Happy Anniversary!

and how did you and @doxiemoxie212 get YH's to go to a couples massage with you? MH refuses. He doesn't like massages and people touching him but I think he is just so tense that can can't relax and let them do their job. If he would just relax I think it would really help.

  • @krashke I think I got in when we were young, and he realized how fucking awesome it is. He was hesitant at first for sure. I also made sure he went to a really, really good massage therapist for his first one, so I think that helped. Have you had him try any of the ones with aromatherapy or hot stone or whatever?
  • @doxiemoxie212 I haven't been able to get him to try anything. The furthest I have gotten so far is him letting me give him a bit of a massage but he won't let me use oils or lotions because "it's sticky" so it probably wasn't great.

  • @krashke oh DH hates oils, so I try to find him therapists that don't use a lot -- maybe look into myofacial massage (it's not on your face... obv) which doesn't use hardly any oil at all. Or some thai massages? Where your clothes are on and they sort of stretch you? IDK. I think going to get massages together is so fun because you're both so happy and relaxed after.
  • @elsie42  - happy anniversary!

@doxiemoxie212 - DH and I tried our first "spa experience" at the same time on a vegas trip and we both got hooked!  So glad he likes them too so neither one of us balk at the price of a good experience either locally and we always get them on trips if there is a spa.

@krashke - DH has a legit phobia of any kind of lotions/oils/whatever...literally has blacked out before from people (think bootcamp) squirting lotion on him but he sucks it up for a really good massage.

I also managed to get DH loving pedicures!  He doesn't get them often, but definitely enjoys them!  This weekend I asked him to help me put on my socks and he commented that I need a pedicure...I said yeah I want one before vaca next week...he said no after.  I was like uhhh, both??  He said it can't be before because he is too busy and can't go too, haha.  I'm going to stick to the plan of going both before and after

  • @krashke I don't know how, but he loves them! The first one we did together was in Hawaii at a really nice spa where they let you sit out on the balcony after and bring you iced tea and mochi ice cream hahaha. I think the whole experience hooked him. He also loves pedicures after we went once with another couple. He's always asking to go :joy:

  • @kraske like doxie said make sure the first one is really good. DH had never had a massage or pedicure until I took him for our first dating anniversary (2012) now he loves them and goes to get pedicures without me all the time. This may sound backwards but I always request the youngest (& stereotypically attractive) female massage therapist for DH (if you’re worried you’re in the same room nothing will happen) i notice he’s much more relax with a pretty 20something woman touching him than a 40/50 year old vet (whose probably better tbh).

  • Anyone starting to feel emotional before you experience something? Almost like you know you'll be emotional before whatever reason ...

Example: my H is setting up the crib and putting the glider in the bedroom. Recently the room was painted, so it's starting to finally look like the nursery. I can already feel myself getting emotional at the idea of seeing it starting to come together.

Also remember awhile ago my weird crying moment about Pluto {planet} and how our LO won't know it was a planet?
At Easter dinner, a few family members were asking about any emotional moments and apparently that is my H's fave moment .... and I almost started crying again while he was explaining what happened.
I was able to calm myself, but I felt the tears starting lol
  • @kfren sorry that sucks! At least you had a good last hurrah

  • @ffw0617 oh man, DH does not care at all what the therapist looks like. His main complaints are if she has long nails (which I just think shouldn't be a thing massage therapists have??) or use too much oil. I usually request a dude though, if I can, because I prefer super firm pressure, and male therapists usually veer that way.

@elsie42 DH's favorite spa experience was in Hawaii too! We were at the Ritz Carlton for our honeymoon, and he was so excited about the hot tub, sauna, steam room, etc., leading up to the massages, and then the massages were outside. He keeps wanting to go back to a spa experience type place, but probably the closest was in London where we did these crazy massage... packages? IDK. It was like a body scrub, massage and facial? His was traditional Thai, and I think mine was traditional Chinese? At this suuuuuper fancy shmancy hotel (which we did not stay at). I think it was this one: https://www.the-connaught.co.uk/aman-spa/

I have a massage membership now here in NYC where I pay $99/month for a 1-hour massage, and I can use them, gift them, save them, whatever, so now I have about 5 saved up and can go every 2 weeks until my due date lol. I used to save them and go every 2 months with DH, but oh well, he's not pregnant.
  • @doxiemoxie212 i prefer men too for the same reason. I use to have a monthly massage membership for a couple years but got rid of it to save for the wedding. Ever since my bday in 2016 I’ve been addicted to thai massage!!!! Give me a small lady walking on my body anyday. Can’t gey them while pregnant though. I love them, so much more effective in my opinion especially for flexibility. A few consistent thai massages and it’s about the equivalent of months of yoga practice on my body.

  • I got my DH to get massaged when we were in Cuba. I was like, I am off to the spa for a half day, and he was like.. Yikes! Okay I will come along! So being a good sport, he took a 1/2 day package, including sauna, massage, Cloepatra bath (he still talks about) and a chocolate body scrub. So now everytime we go away, he is like... When are we booking massages!
Mama to a wonderful DD - Sep 2015, Wife to my DH since 2011, 2 dogs, a cat, and hoping to add No. 2 in May/June 2018. Canadian.
5 - IUIs, 3 - IVF retrievals, 2- failed transfers (fresh, and frozen), PGS on second IVF resulted in 1 perfect emby, and DD.
3rd IVF w PGS resulted in 3! perfect embys. 1st transfer - Sep 2017 2 more on ice.
  • My H won't get a massage. He says he's got an aversion to someone he doesn't know .... which I kinda get.

I'm not picky about when I get a massage, but I find the men talk more than the women. It's odd.
  • @kfren I’m sorry you failed. Glad you had one last hurrah though. The good news is that we only have a couple handful of weeks left.
