Re: All Things Random (Week of 3/26)

  • DS got his first hair cut yesterday and he looks like such a big boy now. I didn’t want to cut his hair because I knew it would take away from his “baby looks” but the poor kid could barely see with all the hair in his eyes. I keep looking at him and feeling kind of sad because my sweet baby is less of a baby everyday and I can’t stop it.

  • @calimom2524 I also tend to go a little crazy on baby related resale pages. I justify it by telling myself the money is going to a fellow mom/her family.

This comment is messed... not sure how to delete it :/ sorry!

  • I've pretty much had to forbid myself from going on any website where I could possibly buy anything for my baby. Between what I've already bought him, what my mom and dad have bought, and what my friend at work gave me I think he can wear a new outfit every day for the first six months.

  • @melbel0824 I saw Hamilton in New York with the 2nd cast and it was phenomenal.  What makes the show so great is the brilliant writing and music.  The talent is going to be good no matter what.  Lin Manuel Miranda is incredibly talented but doesn't have the best vocal ability so the role of Hamilton is not vocally challenging.  Your friend is just jealous.  We are seeing it again in Boston this fall and I can't wait.

  • We’re seeing Hamilton in 2019 and already have our tickets! So excited. A good show is a good show. It will have a great cast.

  • I’m not letting myself buy anything for the baby until I go through DS’s old clothes and figure out what I actually need. I’ve wanted to though.
  • FFTC: I had to google what Hamilton is because I keep seeing references but have no idea what anyone is talking about. I thought it was a new boy band or something. #Iliveunderarock

Ditto going through boxes of baby clothes - I pulled all DS's old sleepers, onesies and pants. Only the things I never liked in the first place are being donated / given away.

@LC12261012 - aw baby's first haircut! Did you keep one of the locks of hair?
@hezzer78 - yay for free bagels!
@jsnakehole - that's awesome! We made sure to have enough sleepers to get us through the week without having to do any laundry so I have approximately 237 of them. Totally reasonable.

  • @laurad75 I'm pretty sure she's just jealous too. I listen to the Hamilton soundtrack a lot (and cry every time), so I don't think I'm going to be disappointed in anybody's performance.

@hezzer78 I'm so jealous of your free bagels! Bagels are life for me right now.
  • @amac12999 I'm with you! I have wanted to buy so much stuff, but I need to dig out the bins of DS clothes before I let myself buy anything. We had SO many clothes for him from newborn to 6 months especially that I truly don't think we need that much at first. Our only issue will be since they will be born 3 months apart, the winter stuff we had for DS will probably be too big for #2. I figure I'll buy that stuff closer to the time of because who knows what size we'll need. DS was 3 weeks early and was just over 6lbs.... but by 3 month appointment  he was in the 70+ percentile for height and weight and has only gone up since!

  • @hezzer78 I got the same email! The only problem is there isn't really a Panera too close to me to be able to use it. I got it because I order breakfast for work so much.

I have only really bought a few onsies that are mostly boys but figure if LO is a girl she can wear them too. It is hard to find gender neutral stuff, at least where I am looking.

Say, @Brezzy1928, if you have a Free Bagel Code that you want to get rid of, I would selflessly be willing to take it off your hands

  • @ecwk I'm in your same boat. I was wanting to stock up on some cheap onesies and such and it's either the same stuff over and over, or plain white. Sigh.

@ecwk and @neeraja_k I can't even find plain solid colors. I have bought mostly boy onesies and keep telling DH to picture them with a tutu.

  • ecwkecwk member
@neeraja_k It is hard to find truly neutral clothes, isn't it?? But in a way I am glad because I haven't spent a ton of money which I know I would if I knew (especially if it were a girl!)

@Brezzy1928 I didn't realise you are Team Green too! I think that is a great idea. A girl on my old BMB was TG too and I think she had a "boy-ish" dinosaur onesie as a take home outfit but had a skirt or bow or something to girly it up in case she had a girl!
You could also try www.primary.com  - they have all the plain solids you could want!

  • @melbel0824 I've admittedly not tried a free to grow tula yet as they didn't come out until DS was a toddler but I just ordered one yesterday in Ula's birthday sale that I'll be trying out. I plan on using the standard size with an insert for a while, too. I used my standard with DS2 until he was 2.5, we absolutely got our use out of that one.

  • We found it easier to shop in the boy's section being Team Green. DD ended up in lots of dinos and outer space clothes, which are super cute. We are Team Green again and will use those items again.Carters usually has 2-4 specifically neutral outfits. Also found packs of onsies with animals on them at TJ Maxx, which weren't gender specific at all. We loaded up on those and they worked out great. I second the recommendation for primary.com, they are awesome!

    Hello from Detroit!

  • We were team green with our first,  and it was really difficult to find stuff. Mostly we came up with animals or striped things that would probably tend to be more for boys, even though we had a girl. Now, I also have lots of girly sleepers too, so if this one is a girl we'd be set if it weren't for the fact this baby will be born in the exact opposite season

DS2 had an ENT appointment this morning to have his hearing checked. He's 17M and only has two words, so we wanted to make sure he was hearing us right. His hearing is perfect, so that's a relief. We'll likely be set up with speech therapy for him at his 18M check up. I know he's not super behind, but DS1 talked at 9 months (freak), so it's been a long wait. I'm glad we at least eliminated one issue.

I'm so desperate to eat the entire box of Wheat Thins in front of me, but...carbs. I really need to a do a better job at grocery shopping. I'm all set with breakfast and dinner, but low carb lunch is a struggle.

We're team pink, but I still haven't bought her anything. I've gotten several outfits from my Mom and grandma, but being a new SAHM, I'm sticking to my budget for now. We'll buy her some necessities closer to August, but I have a feeling she'll spend a lot of time in DS1 & DS2's hand-me-downs...

  • I had bought all sorts of stuff for my son at this age, but I've barely gotten anything for lil miss yet.  She's going to wear all of my sons clothes with a few "girl" things added in.  I dressed him pretty girly until about one year so it will be fine.  People would always comment on how "girly" his outfits were.  Whatever.  He was effing adorable in peach, pale blue, grey, etc.
  • We’re team green right now only because we haven’t opened the envelope yet and are too nervous/not ready to know haha I’m strongly thinking boy again though.
  • @kburg15, what restraint - especially with the envelope near you!!
  • @kburg15 I would be holding that envelope in front of lights and trying to see through it.

  • @jsnakehole ugh already tried!!

@scottishlass1213 I know! DH doesn’t want to know yet and has the idea we’ll open it “some weekend when we’re bored and can enjoy it.” Liiiiiike...I could enjoy knowing today! Come on! Ha

@kburg15 whaaaat? Cook a nice dinner tonight or tomorrow and tell DH after DS goes to bed you're going to open it. I would be dying of curiosity.

  • @melbel0824I don't have a free to grow either because they didn't exist when I had DS.  But I would definitely buy that and skip the infant insert if I were you
  • LMAO @kburg15  I don't know why but that statement from your DH is making me giggle!
  • I just got this diaper bag I ordered from Amazon and it's awesome. It's similar to the jujube BFF but a fraction of the cost.

  • So i finished my 6 hour exam (yippee) and went straight to get my oil changed bc i figured it would be less crowded on a weekday and i desperately needed it done. Forgot it was spring break here so its a 2 hr wait (that's my only explanation for how crowded it is that is). Joy.
  • I have pretty much spent the whole afternoon not doing work and making my registries instead. Still have more to add but, I fell a lot better knowing it is almost done.

@calimom2524 Ooh another Tula? Which print?? I was tempted with that sale but now I have my FTG full WC and the half WC standard that I used with DS, plus a canvas standard, not to mention DH's one that he keeps in his car, so I'm waiting for a good ring sling so I have 2 of those lol.

I had lunch with a friend on Friday who is due 2 weeks after me (which is so fun because her DD was due 2 weeks after my DS). We were talking about strollers, as she got a phenomenal deal on a used Bugaboo Donkey from someone, and she mentioned that they wanted the Vista but the weight limit for the toddler seat in front is too low. So I looked it up, and sure enough it's a 35lbs limit, and of course DS is 37lbs already. So I'll just be using the Vista when I want to click the carseat on or short trips where DS won't mind walking or riding on that skateboard thing (which I now will need to buy). Good thing we already have so many boy clothes because now the double stroller I fell in love with (City Mini GT side by side double) is a good $600 *facepalm*
